You are not being oversensitive. That was not a joke. If it was a joke, it was way out of line. Your niece was rude after everything you did for her throughout her life. This is how she feels. I would not give any money to her or anything else until she grows up. I guess it's time for you to buy yourself a new car or remodel the house. Mike has no right to demand that you pay for HIS daughter's tuition. He is also being greedy here because if you pay, he doesn't have to. The more I hear, the more it sounds like his family has been taking advantage of you for a very long time. And let's remember that mike and his wife and everybody else in the room laughed while you were deeply emotionally hurt.
Emily is not a baby. Emily can still go to college. She’ll just have to make other financial plans. She should’ve thought about that when she was writing her speech for her graduation that insulted her aunt and really made fun of her for saving all her money just to provide it for her entitled self. The answer is not obligated to pay for her niece‘s college, it would’ve been nice, but when her niece obviously has no respect for her aunts sacrifices, and for the money that it was going to cost for her to go to college, that it was an expectation well of course my aunt is gonna pay, she’s got the money, and even if she graduated from college, she wouldn’t have respected her aunt at that time either. Her aunt didn’t expect her to go oh my God thank you thank you thank you thank you. It’s not that it’s respect and I really appreciate it and then maybe doing something nice back for the aunt because she provided the money for her education. apparently the family felt that her love for the niece was expected, like of course you’re gonna pay for this, you’re single, you’ve got the money, what else you’re gonna do with it. The way the dad laid on the guilt trip was really quite remarkable so I think that’s how his daughter is going to be in the future. I’m glad the aunt isn’t gonna pay. Furthermore, it is not the parents responsibility nor the ants responsibility to pay for the nieces college fees. Both of my kids worked their way through college, and it was their responsibility as far as I was concerned because I didn’t have any money to give them or I would have, but I was not responsible to pay for the whole amount for them to get the graduation from college degree. We paid for their high school and that was as far as we could go. As far as the dad not saving enough money, that’s his problem, not the ants. He should have been saving it anyway, but he wasn’t because he was dreaming that his sister was going to be paying for then the daughter’s college cost. It is not the responsibility in any way to pay for this money. It’s unfortunate that she has said that she would, but when the daughter became a snot, she used her intelligence and realize that the daughter did not have any respect for her and changed her mind that you’ll have to pay for this and some other way because I’m not doing it. The dad and his daughter can be mad as they want, but it is not the ants responsibility. His daughter can get a job for the summer like many many many other college students do and then she can work after her college courses during the college year and make her payments as many many other college students do. Life is not free. Neither is college. And no, you are not a jerk for not paying for a new education. She can grow up and pay for herself.
As a kid who was a in the foster care system. Don't let them Gaslight you find you a kid to Foster or adopt. People misuse folks thinking that being kind is you have to.
I guarantee she has been playing op all these years to get what she wants from her. I had an aunt in the same position with her granddaughter. Whenever my aunt needed her help with anything, granddaughter wouldn't do it unless she got paid
It's the parents fault.. it's how the parents talk about the person.. parents attitude usually will affect a child words or actions
The biggest mistake is have opinions on someones feelings. It never works. Also expect things instead of deserve them.
OP should keep her money, entitled teen can face the harsh realty of student loans. Spend it on a vacation home in an exotic location.
Don’t people know how to apologize at all?

She’s an entitled brat. Don’t pay her college. Let her grow up and take care of herself.
I don't think that would have bothered me that much, but to each his or her own
