Well I’m Christian and I completely disagree. The film helped me feel even closer to Christ and help me relate to even even more in a time when I was questioning my own faith!
Even though it is quite blasphemous, I think the last temptation of Christ is really a good take on what would happen if Jesus didn't die for our sins and did sin, since its a fictional story based on the gospels. People say its blasphemous but really I think you could learn something from this.
Wow. I was not ready for the exorcist to be mentioned at all. Its become my favorite movie recently. I believe its the best story to be put to film of all time. I need to re-watch Last Temptation again. I plan on ordering it soon
Well said across the board. I was 18 when Last Temptation came out. I had to fight my way through an angry hoard of spitting angry Christians protesting one of the only theaters in NYC that was screening the film. A film that is in my top 10 films of all time. I was raised on a commune, went to Catholic school for 4 years ( where I was beaten often ) exposed to nearly all major Religions. I’m an artist and a filmmaker I’ve lived around the world for many years and after respecting, consuming and comparing all major religions. consider myself Buddhist. Buddhism is a way of life more than a religion. One of the things I was most impressed with while living in Nepal was how Monks are taught to question and debate nearly Everything including traditions far older than Christianity and no one is screaming blasphemy at one another. Most of the people that rejected LTOC never saw it. It’s a mixture of being uneducated, untraveled and being of weak faith to attack what you haven’t even seen.
I'm a Catholic. The last temptation is heretical because being tempted to lust is not part of human nature but a result of original sin. Before the fall, humanity was not created with the inclination and temptation to sin. The devil dared to tempt Christ in the desert but Jesus being sinless was not subject to any temptation. By suggesting that Jesus' human nature could be tempted, you are denying his divine nature and suggesting that his human and divine nature are not intertwined. The heretic who coined this belief was called Nestorian and nestorianism was condemned by the church in 451. My problem with Martin Scorsese, is that while he is a brilliant film maker-- he often poses these theology 101 questions and pretends like he is some deep thinker. His other film Silence (2016), is also beautifully produced heresy. It suggests that denying Jesus to save other people is some kind of heroic action. This is completely against the Bible and all the martyrs who would rather die than "deny Jesus before others". Also trying to get out of the charge of blasphemy by pretending it was just a dream is a cop out. If someone described in graphic detail lewd acts with your wife and then ended it with-- "I was just dreaming"-- I'm sure you would be offended. This is the film equivalent of going 'its just a prank bro'.
I’m Christian and love the film! I also agree with your point and I’ll add that Jesus was in fact tempered by Satan in the desert (which is also shown in the film). If anything the film made my faith even stronger in Christ and made him feel more relatable to me. You’re certainly allowed to your own opinion and this is mine. We can now agree to disagree!
Doesn't make sense. You say Adam and Eve did not have the inclination to sin. That would mean 2 things: 1: they didn't have have will - because if they had free will, then they would be free to choose to sin or not to. But if they didn't have free will, how did they choose to take the apple? And 2: (this is the important part) they could NOT have taken and eaten the apple without the inclination to sin. The temptation came from the serpent, but they could only have come to sin with an inclination to do so.
Accuses Scorsese and Kazantzakis of using Theology 101 arguments, then proceeds to use Theology 101 arguments to support his position. Please read some real books my friend.
@Sinisterlizards there are two meanings of the word temptation. To tempt and to be tempted. The devil dared to tempt Christ but Christ was not internally tempted. He is God and needs nothing. Why bring adam and eve into this? They are relevant to the discussion.
Most sane & reasonable Christian on youtube, good work.

Happy to hear that
Flawless video. I'm also a Christian with a love for films that embrace the natural complexities of faith and the spirit. You've earned a subscriber.
Thank you. I have more videos coming soon

The last temptation of christ is a different view point and it also shows what would happen if we people sin and asked God for forgiveness
