Update: I notice there are people that are coming into this video expecting to see dark skin curly hair people after all we are being conditioned to think one particular way but not realizing the Fate of so many enslaved Africans throughout South America many of them intermingled with the indigenous people and some cases became high priests or shamans for those tribes this is also discuss in this video throughout my travels through South and Central America I am constantly exposed to this evidence and many of those times I have come across people who are unaware of their true heritage for many particular reasons one of them is because of survival either way that does not negate or change people's heritage regardless of how you may feel which is mostly based ofThe Society that you were brought up so I would ask you if you do watch this video open up your mind in think do these people have an ancestor who was an enslaved African and the answer for many of the people in this video would be yes. in fact in many cases which is also shown in this video you will see that many of these people have grandparents who are as black as your grandparents or so before you come on this video to complain about why you don't see someone black or if they don't have any African heritage please try to use some logic because many of you guys are showing me how ignorant you are in the comments section and I'm not here for that especially when you see so many who are openly celebrating their african heritage.

@ACEDTVL This erasure of melanin is shocking in this video. I know that after WWII, the Nazis fled to Latin American countries and pursued "neutrality." The war criminals included Mengele, Priebke, Roschmann, Schwammberger, Kutschmann, and Gestapo Colonel Adolf Eichmann. With the exception of Brazil, all Latin countries pursued neutrality, which includes the erasure of dark melanin. The gentleman towards the end told his family's direct lineage fleeing for their lives into a new life of slavery... fascinating. The first documentary I watched was about Afro-Argentinians. Black is not used in that country, and I noticed that on your documentary also. The artifacts of the stolen and tortured enslaved African are heartbreaking. Please continue to share. Safe travels ACE 🙏🏾💖

I particularly love when he explores cultural roots by visiting museums, interviews people who are willing to share their personal archives and photos and talk about their life and the lives and memories of their ancestors. This is so interesting and really fulfills a desire I have had since childhood of knowing about the history and life of the beautiful people and cultures all over the world. Love it! Phenomenal work, Ace! Not just for this latest work but for all of the previous videos that you have filmed throughout South America. As an Afro-descendant myself, I always knew that wherever a Spaniard or Portuguese landed and set up shop (althought they were not the only ones involved in slavery during the period between the 1500's through the late 1800's), Africans slaves were also carried, imported and bred. Over the years, history has proven me right.
As a young kid I did some research about the African slave trade in Chile. According to what I found, around 500 Africans were taken to Chile. Shortly after their arrival the slave practice was discontinued. A quantity that small can easily fade away over as short as 150 years. People die, mix with the inhabitants of the area, during that time mainly the mestizos and indigenous people (the Aymara and the Quechua). African influence can be heard and felt in Aymara music. I do not know if many would have gone southward to mingle with the Mapuche.
In either case, the genes, sporadic characteristics, some not so obvious, would be passed on to the general population without an Afro-related consciousness in most cases without an Afro-descendant consciousness to ignite it. Be it as it may, you can't wipe out the spirit. On the other hand, duing my 69 years, I have been able to sense an akin connection to people from different Latin American countries. Then, find out that they were Afro-descendant, and most of them had very few, if any detectable physical characteristics. So yes, I could sense that they are members of the African diaspara. Ultimately, if you get people in a place or venue, put food, drink, music and dance in the mix, you will find all types of commonalities that you have with people. Just think! You never know who you might be related to! Thank you for your hard work, Ace!

Bozal - The term “Negro Bozal” refers to recently arrived African slaves who spoke a pidgin form of Spanish known as “macuá” or “bozal.” The word “bozal” literally means “muzzle,” reflecting the perception that these slaves were incapable of speaking Spanish. They were distinguished from “negros ladinos,” who were cultivated or latinized Blacks, having spent more than a year in a Spanish-speaking territory12. In contemporary Cuba, “Bozal” characterizes the voices of African deities and spirits during folk religious ceremonies3. Although Bozal Spanish as a language is extinct, its influence persists in cultural practices and music. For instance, some Cuban folk rituals today involve speaking what they call “Bozal,” and afro genre songs contain lyrics reminiscent of the language1. Great vid bro !

The term "black bozal" was used to describe enslaved Africans who were captured in Africa and brought to Spanish America without familiarity with Iberian cultures and languages. The term "bozal" can also be used as an adjective to mean "stupid" or "simple". In contrast, "black ladino" was used to describe Hispanicized Africans who had spent time in Spain and were exiled to Spanish America. "Ladinos" could be free or enslaved, and performed a variety of jobs, including domestic work, artisan work, and lower-status economic jobs.

Thank you for giving these dignified, well-informed people a voice through your platform to share their history, connective tissue of the African diaspora and its relevance to their social conditions of today. With each video, you are helping to lift the veil of ignorance of so many(including myself). Well done.

Great work on this video! Hoping the Chilean news does a story on this video too! Unfortunately, many Chileans are deeply uninformed about Afro-descendants in their country in both past and present due to systemic racism in the government and society more broadly. Many people are even unaware that San Martín’s army that famously crossed the Andes to free Chile from Spanish rule was primarily composed of Black soldiers. Important stuff to learn in this video!

In Chile, black slavery remained for nearly three centuries, from 1536 to 1823, although in the colonial productive apparatus as a whole, it was a secondary labour relationship. During that time, it was never imposed as the main labour regime, as it coexisted with others of greater weight, such as the assignment on horseback or on foot, tenancy, peonage, and Indigenous slavery, among others. The first contingents of slaves arrived in Chile as part of the Spanish armies of Diego de Almagro and Pedro de Valdivia. The role of the African descendants during the discovery and conquest was that of domestic servants and soldiers. However, from the end of the 16th century, the decline of the Indigenous population at a time when the economy was turning towards the export of livestock products produced a severe labour crisis that was partly remedied by the importation of black slaves from Africa. What, in the beginning, was a transfer of servants became a lucrative commercial activity, a labour supply market that extended the slave trade to our territory. July 24, 1823, was a historic date for Chile, as it was the first American country and the second in the world to decree absolute freedom from slavery,

well... Arica is part of Chile since about 140 years, and as this region became chilean most of the black people migrated to Peru, since they still recognized themselves as peruvians. Thus it is no surprise that afro-arican music sounds a lot like afro-peruvian music, and it is also no surprise that a population change did take place. The important thing to know is that until 1876 most of the inhabitants of this region had always been afrodescendants. Then came the war with Chile and many many immigrants from Central Chile migrated to the newly acquired territory. That explains somehow the phenotypes you see now there. They might not look very "black", but they really are. Apart from this very peculiar case of northern Chile, where a neo-ethnogenesis is being constructed, if one would really want to know something about the colonial and early republican afro-chileans, then the right thing to do would be to study what happened further south (see Afrocoquimbo), sometimes far further south (see Concepcion, and even in Patagonia their traces can be found). Piece by piece some evidence is coming to light in these regions too. Too bad that most people just accept what "is offered as afrochilean" limiting themselves to the evidence of the far north, a place that stricto senso did not participate in the formation of chilean culture "since the beginning"... If some new definitions and methodologies should be defined, another approach and another result would emerge. As a specialist in afrolatinamerican history and culture I would rather support that venue. BUT in any case this does not invalidate the effort people like Oro Negro have done, quite on the contrary! (I remember when about 50 years ago I proposed the recognition and research of this overlooked part of Arica`s history, most of my academic colleages just smiled, looked at each other, and then laughed)
