Yeah I just found him a few days ago and can't stop listening to his music. Phenomenal songwriting and singing that conveys some deep stuff. One of a kind honestly. It's up there with Willie Nelson lyrics.
I started thinking maybe it’s not because the recording is that good you could hear dogs barking in the back that surprisingly brought production value to the recording. Maybe he just hasn’t topped a studio recording better than this set. IMO he should do whatever he can to get this session on an album but he’ll have to probably pay jam in the van it’s all business at that point
@@FreddyD177It'd be cool if Jam in the Van put out collab albums with the artists they feature on this channel, sorta like what GemsOnVHS started doing a couple years ago.
Even though people say that he's like Neil Young or Bobby Dylan, I say that he's too unique to compare apples to oranges. Keep up the great songs and I'll keep listening. We love your music.
I finally played this in a coffee house gig last night . . . told them all it was serious shit and it was written by a serious man, listen to the lyrics . . . when I was done, half the audience politely clapped, but damn, the other half sat there like they saw a ghost, it was fucking beautiful.
{Verse 1} I was born in The early mornin' In the winter time, you see With my mother And my brother In the middle of the last stampede {Verse 2} And of my father He made his dollar With a heavy hammer {worn?} In a canyon Where they found him Just the day before I was born {Verse 3} And as a child My mother smiled Saying, "Baby now, don't forget Through all sorrow God will follow But you ain't seen nothin' yet" {Verse 4} As the time flew And I too grew Oh my mother passed away While my brother Took his cover With a gun on a Florida bay {Verse 5} And I was lonesome Oh so lonesome I was hungry and on my own No one near me To defend me I was a poor soul, now left to roam {Verse 6} So I took off walking My bare feet stomping Through my little country town Inside the wind-blown Dust and dog bones There was nothing to be found {Verse 7} The buildings ravaged Man turned to savage And the scene, it scarred my heart Some were crying Some were dying But you couldn't tell the two apart {Verse 8} And by December The hateful winter Brought a chilling awful breeze And a preacher A gospel teacher Who said “the ships have stole the seas” {Verse 9} He said "Seek out shelter” "Let in the Savior" He said “to get on my knees and pray” "The fire is blazing” "And its shift is changing” "And it's headed out this way" {Verse 10} And down the highway Through my doorway I could see a lantern's light Another traveler Some rugged rambler Who said “we'll meet with God tonight” {Verse 11} And over yonder A sound like thunder I saw that fire fall and twirl Planes were crashing Bombs were flashing And it lit up the almighty world {Verse 12} And the pigs were squealing With the horses fleeing While that battle drew its breath And at my window With my candle I awaited for my death
saw you live last night at The Grey Eagle ... this acoustic performance stunned the crowd to silence ... incredible, my friend. Born to sing ... born to paint the portrait of the human condition.
To me when you watch him sing he reminds me of Neil young his song take you there this song makes me think of the end is coming and he is telling us warning us to prepare
To me this song sounds like that of a person who was born in the middle of an ongoing apocalypse or otherwise world ending event. The "last stampede" being the the final desperate surge of humanity before its wiped out by storms, bombs and fire...
@@whiteyfisk9769Oh I don't doubt that his songs are absolutely amazing but in order for him to make money he kind of has to sell his songs dumb a**. The good news is God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins on the cross. This means Jesus paid the debt we owed but couldn’t pay. So if one repents and places faith (trust) in Jesus Christ they can be assured of heaven. I love you and so does God.
This dude's songwriting is unreal.
The original version is awesome too, look up great war 3 ballad
Agreed

Comparable to John Moreland. (The world's BIGGEST phenomenal songwriter. LOL!) Listen to 'You don't care for me enough to cry'. Awesome.
The Poet, Spirit and Muse.
All wrapped up.
I wish he would put this on an album. It's so good

He is in the line of those great ones but different for sure and even better in voice, rawness and storytelling
@@timschutte3961 Ian is the greatest, but most folks will never know.
He’s not like either of them he’s his own thing and he’s bound for greatness 👍🏻 his songwriting and singing style is unique
Apples and Oranges. But this guy is a field of strawberries.
This song is a masterpiece.
Words cannot describe the emotions that are invoked upon listening to this beauty.
This its the type of music the world some old soul sounding songs.
This dude's a genius, greetings from Hungary. ❤️
The best "new artist" I've heard in a decade. The Merle Haggard T shirt is a nice touch too.

Gawd, I love this song. I love this guy. I love the dogs barking outside like they know their entry.
Had to stop the video and remove my headphones to check whose dog was barking!
Those who don’t understand ,be grateful and thank your higher power ,
Heard him today on outlaw country, first time. Immediate legend!!!
Kentucky proud
The dog barking in the background added such an eerie level to this
This is the real deal.
Proper songwriting performed well, absolutely wonderful
I have been hunting this particular track for over a year! Elusive beautiful lifting song. Please release it!
Jonathan Barraza same here man! Couldn’t agree more
Good LORD this song will stop you in your tracks. What an amazing talent.
He’s so freaking good
Got a real north country blues feel with the progressing story each verse
There's no one like this. Increadible.
This quality stuff old school baby
i got chills holy shit
If townes wrote North Country Blues
{Verse 1}
I was born in
The early mornin'
In the winter time, you see
With my mother
And my brother
In the middle of the last stampede
{Verse 2}
And of my father
He made his dollar
With a heavy hammer {worn?}
In a canyon
Where they found him
Just the day before I was born
{Verse 3}
And as a child
My mother smiled
Saying, "Baby now, don't forget
Through all sorrow
God will follow
But you ain't seen nothin' yet"
{Verse 4}
As the time flew
And I too grew
Oh my mother passed away
While my brother
Took his cover
With a gun on a Florida bay
{Verse 5}
And I was lonesome
Oh so lonesome
I was hungry and on my own
No one near me
To defend me
I was a poor soul, now left to roam
{Verse 6}
So I took off walking
My bare feet stomping
Through my little country town
Inside the wind-blown
Dust and dog bones
There was nothing to be found
{Verse 7}
The buildings ravaged
Man turned to savage
And the scene, it scarred my heart
Some were crying
Some were dying
But you couldn't tell the two apart
{Verse 8}
And by December
The hateful winter
Brought a chilling awful breeze
And a preacher
A gospel teacher
Who said “the ships have stole the seas”
{Verse 9}
He said "Seek out shelter”
"Let in the Savior"
He said “to get on my knees and pray”
"The fire is blazing”
"And its shift is changing”
"And it's headed out this way"
{Verse 10}
And down the highway
Through my doorway
I could see a lantern's light
Another traveler
Some rugged rambler
Who said “we'll meet with God tonight”
{Verse 11}
And over yonder
A sound like thunder
I saw that fire fall and twirl
Planes were crashing
Bombs were flashing
And it lit up the almighty world
{Verse 12}
And the pigs were squealing
With the horses fleeing
While that battle drew its breath
And at my window
With my candle
I awaited for my death
Heavy hand of war.
Besides the wind blown...
Men turned to savage
Thanks for the lyrics

Allan Gray and it’s really distracting
Close your eyes and listen
Bob Dylan x Neil Young
I like to think of him as Townes Van Dylan
and a touch of Mason Jennings
Why is this not on spotify?
Canola oil fire?
If you squint, he looks like Neil Young in 1971.
Where can I download?
There are too many graphics surrounding this tune
Why you so mad, Ian?
