  • This was an outing, and my first to the Monadhliath Mountains, for a wee dauner up Geal Charn.
It turned out, that this wouldn't be the easy we ramble I thought it would be, self inflicted, may I add. I absolutely destroyed my heals on this one. New boots and a bad decision on taping, where I used Compeed rather than Zinc Oxide tape. Let's just say, lesson learned.
As well as a walk, you'll see from the title I was taking soil samples. These soil samples were for the Hutton Institute and their Mountain Heights, Hidden Depths, where they look at the bio-diversity that languishes on our Munro summits across Scotland. I was one of many volunteers who have gathered these samples, to assist with this venture.
I hope you enjoy the video.

Oooh! Audible wince at the end there! Interesting about the soil samples.

Hey Rich. What can I say, bad idea using the compeed, I'll be sticking to Zinc Oxide in the future. 😂
As for the soil sampling, it is quite interesting, to be honest, I think they've already had a few surprises. The added bonus was that it forced my hands into walking hills I had been wanting to do but kept putting them off.
