Had a boss that used to say that to employees trying to leave. It's a phrase used justify shittiness or cover up bad qualities. Guess what the next job the grass was greener.

@jaylee6830: Exactly. I seen a lot of people moving to another state and is doing worse financially than they were in their original state. People say they make more money here and there and how wonderful it is to be here but failed to tell the truth about their financial conditions 😂.

I moved to Austin in 1986 as a child and just recently moved to Tampa. I loved Austin for so long yet after spending 5 months visiting 24 countries in Europe last year and the lack of public transportation is a shame. I last lived downtown thinking it would be an amazing experience yet having to drive everywhere really sucks. I also tried going for a walk when it was 105F outside downtown and it was pure hell. Austin and most of the U.S. needs to completely revamp their transportation infrastructure and take notes from Japan and Switzerland.

So many opportunities for the entrepreneurial minded who look forward to rising up and meeting the daunting challenges of life. Everywhere I look there is a new business opening, neighborhoods being revitalized and friendly people looking connect.

So I moved here from Manhattan about two years ago. During the Covid and all that. And I know people are like oh well you’re from New York. You’re part of the problem. Actually I moved here for what my friend who lives in San Antonio sold me on Austin with was it’s weird. I’m a weird person. It’s artsy. I’m an artist, they love except all kinds of people I happen to also be gay but not crazy about it. And so I was looking for that eclectic hippie artsy, musical kind of place that also had a little touch of a city. And I feel like I find it here and there, but it’s very small and fleeting and most people here I find to be rude and irritating it could just be the world that we live in now and the way the country is unfortunately. But I really did move here for that old Austin vibe. Because when people that are from here, tell me about how it used to be. I wish that that’s what it was because that’s what I wanted to live in. so I don’t know if I’m gonna stay here I can go outside and go to some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever hiked before. I do appreciate that that’s one good thing. I do like the nature and all the outdoor activities that are offered here. But that will only get things so far plus none of those those are actually in Austin anyway.

  • @123ucr

Honorable mention on why people leave Austin: The politics. If you are a Republican in that city, Austin is the San Francisco or Chicago or Los Angeles or Seattle or New York City or Denver of Texas. In other words, you cannot get any more liberal than these cities. In fact, these are some of the most liberal cities in the US. If you feel politically uncomfortable living in Austin move to another city in Texas. If you are a Texas Democrat who loves the politics of Austin but despise the politics of Texas overall, think very carefully on whether to move out of Texas or not.

Expanding on the crime, it’s due to the population of democratic states (mostly California) continuously leaving because of the practically legal-crime, companies moving (a lot to Texas) because of the crimes, and insane enforcement child gender laws as well as other factors
Austin and possibly parts of Texas will definitely keep growing in crime and as Texas becomes more democratic, it will eventually become plausible that Texas one day could become like California as it is now
Especially since Texas is also the best state for the logical allowance of guns and home defense safety
