Exactly. I've told these young writers this never happens in the real world in this century. Maybe the 1800s and early 1900s but now they don't even live close to inlaws.

Horrible how all these men work in sales, don’t create anything, don’t produce.
It is very common here in Asia...onçe a girl marries she becomes part of the inlaws household. Because of the dowry exchanged, in essence the bride is bought! She goes to live at her inlaws house and at the mercy of mother inlaw! Becomes an unpaid servant until she produces an heir..a son! Until then, wife is miserable. But if the girl was able to graduate college, all bets are off! This happens mostly to women who don't have any kind of college education.
Why can't you leave? Grab your purse,handful of clean underwear, and go.
