      A lot of people blame Rudy for the misconception of "Force of Will being dead" so he is technically a part of the history (even though we can't really point fingers at him because he was just stating facts).

    About the NSFW artwork: I think the main problem is that some of the shops in which you play TCG tournaments, also sell children's games. A lot of little children go there with their mothers. And if they see you play cards with NSFW artworks, they will complain about them generating a lot of issues.

    • @djchappell1726

      As an American I agree that that is the circumstance that happens. As an adult that has been around the world, practiced mindfulness, and is an obsessive retrospectivist I have to question if the line crossing into NSFW is too swift here in the USA.

      I think the biggest issue is that most places do not have a community, I liked the this game a lot years ago and it just died, no matter how much I like the game if I cannot play it then I will move on, its a sad story but true. On the other hand from this video seems like they are making the right choices to make this game succeed.

    Corrections:
    1. Jordan Blanco wasn't TECHNICALLY the Global Liason. That title is new and didn't exist during his employment, but he basically did all the same stuff so it doesn't really matter.
    2. The Valhalla expansions were released in English but they weren't released in America. For some reason my brain thought "not released in America" and "Japan-exclusive" meant the same thing when it doesn't.
    3. Reflect/Refrain wasn't the first J-Ruler to have no printed stats, but he was the first where it actually mattered. The first one was Labyrinth Master, Chronos during the first expansion of Valhalla Cluster.
    4. Full Art Cheshire Cat appeared in Moon Priestess Returns (MPR), not Tale of Two Towers (TAT). It was an unlisted secret rare. The card still has "TAT" in the bottom-left corner.
    5. Level.100 Games informs me that, "GP rotated to Alice cluster only not because of RR but because Yggdrasil gaining an OTK in the Battle for Attoractia expansion," and "The 2nd WGP didn’t have RR in it."

    As a person who was also one of the starting RUclips channels along with others mentioned like Deep Wood I WHOLEHEARTEDLY congratulate this video. It was quite accurate and showed both the ups and downs of FoW at it's current state ( Not all like Sherry, etc.) I stopped due to technical reasons but I will still say I love the game. And as I've come into an influx of funds this video revitalized me to work once more towards success.
    Make sure to visit the channels mentioned in the video to make your own opinion on the game and its community but I'm sure you'll like what you see.
    Good Work NegativeLegend!

    I'm glad you made this video. I'm just new to FoW and I've been struggling to get started. I'm a former MTG player (1999 - 2003) who recently got back into MTG as well. I have a lot of friends making fun of me because I wanted to try FoW. When I bought my first 2 starter decks (reiya decks) I was kind of mocked on my Facebook for "buying a failed game".
    That didn't bring me down though. I managed to find a local community of FoW players who helped me get started and I'm meeting them next week in our local (MTG dominated) game shop.
    Love the video, keep it up! You gave me the inspiration to move and chug along.

    Thank you very much for this vid. I have been playing MTG for 12 years now and has gone dry for me but this game came up in conversation at my local card show. I have watched tutorial vids of this game but its pleasant to know the true history if not a good spotlight of it. To All that read this thinking if this game is worth it just by listening, it is. And who does love this art i mean i'm in America and this tops the charts on artwork for me.

    Just want to point out how much funner Force of Will is than Magic. Not only do you never get mana screwed or flooded, but having your ruler out just opens up options, and the cards are so much more powerful. What I loved about force of will was how quickly a game could flip because the cards are so powerful. Often in magic games it feels like if you're in the wrong match up you just get railroaded by your opponent, and it isn't fun. Not to mention how easy it is to get the cards you need to be competitive in force of will. Right now in magic standard theres a 4 mana colorless card that can slide into every deck, it's extremely powerful and cost $60. So just for a playset and to be competitive, you need $240.

    • @overweightactor
      @overweightactor 6 лет назад +2

      I know you're referring to the new Karn planeswalker, but you're misrepresenting his value. There's a couple things going on, and they're not all just him being a good card. It's a new card (card value is at it's highest closer to release, while availability is low), it's a popular character (Karn is a major figure in the MtG lore), which enables something niche, colorless commanders, it's also a good card that's seeing play in multiple formats, even legacy. However, he's not some ubiquitous auto include. He's a 2-of in relevant decks, in multiple formats, and people want to play with the new Karn. Widespread opinion of him is still contentious despite him making demonstrable waves, just because "you only get the bad half of your topdeck."

    • @8BitPinkiePie
      @8BitPinkiePie 6 лет назад +1

      One downside to magic is getting into a matchup where a player can just decide to not let you play your deck at all, that and the mana system itself can just fuck you over and also prevent you from playing your deck which is never fun, even winning because the person I played against just couldn't play their deck isn't fun for me.

    • @johnspencer7838
      @johnspencer7838 5 лет назад

      Karn is just the example, I am a long time mtg player and this has been a problem for a long time when you get into competitive MTG. Normally any season has about 3/4 decks that are truly competitive, from those is normally where the big cash cards are from.
      So sure yea you CAN play a $20 deck...just plan on not winning.

Sadly, I don't wanna buy 2 decks and go to a LGS and play vs other people if I know they'll never be interested in FoW. I guess I'll play the game online instead sometimes. Played a lot of FoW a year or so ago, and it was fun and amazing for the Grimm Cluster. The Alice Cluster was also fun, but like the video says, the Regalia and R/R really murdered the game for a lot of people. I did try to keep playing when the Reiya Cluster came out but it felt bad again to see some cards be broken once again and I just gave up on the game as well. It was a fun time, and the community back in Singapore was some of the best people I've met in my life but the game balance really is out of whack.

The demo decks for Deku v. Bakugo released in August for free. Players only had to pay shipping. Anyways, the game is still around and as of this time has Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Mega Man, Cowboy Bebop, and of course Yu Yu Hakusho, and JASCO games original property Red Horizon.

    About the sexualization, I think this video brings out a pretty good point. Being italian, I've never experienced much of a stigma towards sexualized art in games or videogames.
    The biggest issue we ever had here was probably a couple scenes in Dragonball that were marked by media as pedophiliac in nature, and that hate campaign was mainly led by very strict conservative parents' associations. We also had several censorships in anime on tv, but all of this was mainly because those anime series were aired in a time frame that is considered sensible for kids (early afternoon), despite often the same anime series being originally transmitted in the evening in Japan, most likely to push the sales of merchandise among younger kids.
    That said, we don't have something like SJWs nor general negative views about sexualized artworks. At least, not to the extent of US.
    US americans often are so immersed in their own culture that they don't realize that most of the other western countries do not share their views on sexual imagery nor are so obsessed with underage sexualization. In my country, for example, the age of consent is 14. A 20 years old can have sex with a 16 years old no problem. In fact, that's exactly the age difference my gf and I had when we had sex the first time. In the US, that could have been considered illegal and punisheable with jail.

    • @trenchcoats4life891
      @trenchcoats4life891 6 лет назад +1

      Shendue
      You are right. If somebody had sex with a 16 year old and they were 20 they would be labeled a sex offender and could serve multiple years in prison.
      Dating just in general can be a big issue here. If somebody is unhappy they can claim you raped them and then you go to jail. It is a dangerous game.

      It seems to have died out where I’m at, which is great for me as it means more people playing magic. If my profile pic (Praetor of Phyrexia Forge layer for those who don’t know) doesn’t make it obvious I love magic, and honestly I find it the most challenging to deckbuild for of any game out there and thus the most rewarding when done right. I didn’t play to much force will but a couple of my friends did, the deck building just seemed way to easy to be rewarding. Fun to play, but any card game that isn’t fun to play goes the way of the Harry Potter trading card game

    If you are trying to sell cards through a booster pack, a second hand market is needed because that is where the stores profit the most. They make that buck by being able to open large sets to sell those individual chase cards. It sucks for the players, but it is good for the store and encourages them to keep it if they can make like $100 off a single card. Once those cards get sold back for a lower price of like 10% of its value some time later on, they can sell those cards again and make a few extra cents.
    If a card game is trying to be "cheap," they need to rely on selling entirely pre-built sets rather than boosters. When you buy a pack, deck, or box, the cards you get are fixed with no randomness in it. In it should be a full play set of each of those cards. They could have also encouraged the "collectible" aspect of the game with rarer versions of existing cards having different art work like Cardfight Vanguard does. Overall, the cards there are not too rare, but there used to be shiny foil version of 50 cent cards that sells for $10 (I haven't played it in a few years).
    Force of Will continues to make mistakes though and I feel those mistakes are what prevents people from holding onto the game. By pushing up the cost of the game, they have alienated the original players of the game and with no reprints in sight, this has become a problem for some of the people in my area. What Force of Will needs to do now if it wants to continue its current push is to basically have worthwhile sets that have actually been play tested (something I feel almost no card game does anymore) before being sold to ensure that most of the cards in the set see play and to have reprints to make formerly hard to get cards accessible about a year later.

    It's rather ironic that the very game that was built upon the idea to get rid of the reliance of a certain card type in your deck would end up introducing the _break_ mechanic:
    If you think about it, it mimics the reliance on lands for mana; even exascerbates it.
    The break zone draws from your main deck for break cards like your starting hand does for lands.
    But here, you only have four cards instead of seven, that you don't even get to see.
    While the break zone can't mana screw you and instead gets relevant later on,
    you can't afford missing out on four potentially powerful effects throughout the game.
    Additionally, as opposed to _mana flood_, there is no such thing as _break flood_, so of course you'd try to get as many cards with break mechanics in your deck as possible.

    It's pretty sad that a lot of stores and distributers dumped FoW. I dunno what it's like for the rest of the world, but for the last 8 to 10 months where I live all the LGS' have been just off loading all their FoW products for crazy low prices, trying to get rid of it all (which sucks for the game, but is great for broke ass players like me). One of the stores in particular has a basket of booster packs on sale for $1 a piece, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person buying from it lol

I didn't have a lot of fun and the people in my locals really made me not have fun with the game. For the longest time I wasn't sure if I liked the game or not and just sold my collection and went back to Yugioh. Most of the people who used to play only play Super now and it makes me wonder where most of the community actually resides. Anyway my interest is back and I'll take a look at it one more time.

    Actually you convinced me. I've never heard of this game. But that's no surprise as I live in the countryside of Germany. I'm really hungry for a good TCG as I played a lot of YGO in the past, but my interest died down over the years. Field spamming combined with pricy cards really don't seal the deal for me anymore. In hindsight, it has always been the interaction with the community I enjoyed the most. I've only made the best experiences when it comes to building connections and long lasting friendships through YGO. I'm happily looking into FoW and can't wait to get my hands on my first deck. Even if I don't know how big the community in Germany actually is.
    To cut a long story short, I really love the way you provided us with all the interesting information while portraying your passion for this game. Good Job!

      Along with that. Is there a certain deck list or even starter decks that you would recommend to me? I'm highly appreciative for anyone trying to help me as I would love to focus on playing one solid deck that highlights underlying game principles to build a solid foundation to grow upon. I'm aware that getting into any new game takes time and effort, however I also know that there are effective ways and less effective ways of learning and I fancy option number 1 :)

    This might be just because I'm from the UK but honestly English Valhalla wasn't that hard to find. I remember buying the majority of the English Valhalla decks ( besides the fire one ) and 10 booster packs. The card quality was garbage. It wasn't uncommon for you to notice some sort of wear on the edges of the cards before you've even opened them out of the product. The translations were also terrible and somewhat made some cards unplayable. The card in question was the "Deep Forest of Elves" which was in the wind deck.
    The English translation read: "Each resonator cannot attack unless a player pays Void 2"
    While another language version of the card read "Non Elves resonators cannot attack unless a player pays Void 2"
    As you can see this is a huge difference.

I had the chance to go to nationals but only after seeing the prize pool I decided to give the game up. The trip would have cost more than the amount I would have won that is if I got first. Was really disappointed that there wasn't more support at the higher level.

    Great video, and great to hear from everyone on FoW. I feel that RDE Pricia did more damage to the game then R/R ever did. Both were extremely dominant before they were banned, but the Pricia decks were pretty identical, maybe a couple of unique cards between them. Not to mention people just trying to Gods Art and win on turn 2 or 3. Reflect had so many possibilities of decks behind him, and really the card to ban was the Orb regalia. I was in love with Alice Cluster, and Lapis Cluster was disappointing. Looking to see how the game plays after Lapis rotates out. Keep up the good work!

      I played Pricia Aggro in a gp and got 10th, this was right before the laev ban.
      Like you said R/R was a centralizing ruler, unlike in Lapis das where Pricia, Fox, And Lumia Hook were centralizing decks.
      Everyone was playing Jack Giant or Spinning Myths and Pricia v Pricia is not a fun match.
      Even without laev turn 2 was still possible and Mariabella is so strong.
      I still hate Fox more though, especially with unrelenting dead combo.
      Pricia was the only reason Fox didn't rule, ad without both it just turned to cancels.
      TL;DR:
      Lapis was a mistake.
      Alice ftw.

      1. Deck profiles are on DM073's, TCG Scrubs', and Red Zone Rogue's channels. You can also go on my discord server and ask around since there's a lot of people willing to share decks.
      2. The best sets are always the most recent if you want New Frontiers but if you want cheap and easy, go for Grimm Cluster expansions and build a Wanderer deck (expanded format deck).
      3. The sets that are legal for New Frontiers Grand Prix are the two most recent clusters. A cluster is 4 expansions. You can check out all the expansions organized by cluster on their website: www.fowtcg.com
      4. Untap.in is where people congregate for online FOW play.
      Hope this helps.

Then while watching this video at 41:25 it mentions how the company decided to highly censor cards revealing to much skin thanks to American drama. Immediately lost interest and put my cards away i'm afraid. The minute artistic expression gets censored in any form it becomes Limited and a slave to a small group of people who get to dictate what is and isn't appropriate. Sad really.
