製作一隻客家麒麟通常需要100多條蔑。首先，固定麒麟頭的底圈，並將兩條蔑紮在中線上作為棟，然後套上三個圈，將蔑縱向排列，形成客家舞麒麟的頭部，最後才製作眼耳口鼻。師傅為了製作結實耐用的麒麟會製造更多接位去連接竹篾，從而穩固麒麟的結構。

To make a Hakka Unicorn, it usually requires more than one hundred bamboo splints. First, fix two bamboo splints at the centre line of the bottom rim. Then, put three bamboo circles along the two splints to form the head of the unicorn. After that, the craftsman will work on the eyes, ears, mouth and nose. To create a sturdy Hakka unicorn, the craftsman has to create more joints to connect the bamboo splints in order to strengthen the structure.
