After listening to this and seeing the sign I think Disney should have had a WARNING - ALLIGATORS sign posted. Without a doubt. No Swimming is just not enough for most people.
just seems like a drowning liability concern more than a "you might get dragged in or eaten by an alligator" kind of warning. Most people know these signs cater to the lowest common denominator and dismiss them as such.
I've been saying this since it happened. I agree 100%. I'm from Louisiana and frequented beaches and swam in them. If I see a sign that says no swimming, I won't go in the water, but will freely stroll and lay out on the beach. If I see a sign that warns of alligators, it's no WAY I'm going NEAR the beach, and definitely not letting my kids near it. The no swimming sign vs. a Beware of Alligator sign are TWO alert levels! Alligators can also come on land!
+Lanna Kemp I agree 100%. FL native here. A No Swimming sign, and a Beware of Alligators. Do not go near the water." Are 100% different connotations. And the family obeyed the No Swimming sign. Wading in 6 inches of water, even for a 2 year old, is NOT swimming. I ONLY would know not to go near a lake after dark because I GREW UP in Florida. There is NO WAY a tourist family would know that. They believed the only possible danger lied in actually swimming in the water. Maybe there was sea grass to get tangled in or something. They would never know there could be deadly predators unless informed. Disney is 100% negligent and accountable!
KuroNeko well, I hope people keep going into water where it says no swimming...it will weed out the people who are obviously too stupid to live. I feel bad for this child, but no...this was not Disney's fault. This boiled down to bad parenting, and lack of common sense. They have 2 kids...it wonder if they will let their other kid go into water where it says no swimming.
Disney created the water (man-made lake) at the resort. Insane of them to do so. No water = No gators. Never should have been a created gator habitat in the first place. This is 100% on Disney.
this was not a gator habitat , this is breeding season and they will travel many miles to do this/ i dont usually defend Disney but this was just a tragic accident
Keep watching and see. Disney will try to buy them off but if they're smart they'll take Disney to court. Disney needs to be shut down, or at least made to get rid of the water they created. Insane
ás i said before i am no Disney fan , but by your reasoning do we shut down Lake Okeechobee too, fence in all the water in Florida? i am a native of Fla and a big fan of closing down Disney BUT if you want to get rid of the water that can have an alligator in it we would have to close all of Florida
1st of all ... lots of people who have no frame of reference are making their opinion facts about this. Disney has 47 miles of canals and several lakes which can range from a mile across and 5 - 35 feet deep. The water system at Disney is so big, they have their own water management agency, The Reedy Creek Water Authority. Disney was actually built on swampland and the park wanted to conserve much of the waterways to be used for recreation/transportation. They used to have a wave machine installed near the lagoon to make waves for surfing and swimming, which was discontinued in the early 80s. Disney closed its 'beaches' for swimming when it started to rent boats out to guests. In 40 years since Disneyworld opened, there have been NO attacks like this. In fact, since 1973 there have only been 24 fatal alligator attacks TOTAL in the whole state of Florida which has 1.3 million alligators. The odds of being involved in a fatal alligator attack in Florida are 1 in 24 million. If you applied that just to Disney, it would be astronomically low. To say this is a freak occurrence is an understatement. You have a much better chance of dying from a food allergy, bee sting, etc. than a Gator attack in Disney/Florida. This reminds me of the time Disney had to close its popular sky ride in the 1980s because one person who was unsafely climbing out of the cart's safety bars fell and died. Having said that, if you do an image search for 'Grand Floridian Lagoon', you will see that it IS set up like a beach with lounge chairs and beach chairs in the sand. It looks like any beach you would go to at a resort ... a lot of people are acting as though the parents let the boy wade in some swampy marsh next to the resort. The area in question looks like an actual beach. Yes, it has 'no swimming' signs but I think 99% of people who saw this area would have no problem with letting kids wade in the water or play near the sand before this incident. It's not like the parents were crazy to let their kid splash around on a sandy beach with expensive beach chairs all around it. I wish people would do some research before commenting on news stories or playing behind the computer screen lynch mob and making comments about poor parenting based on reading a couple paragraphs and never having seen a photo of the resort or read any of the statistics of miniscule alligator attacks.
I agree with you I feel horrible for this family who lost there son in this tragic accident but their is just to many gators I was in my addition and I saw three gators just while I was on a jog.
growing up in Florida we are taught at a young age gators can be found in any body of water, they are more active at dusk and at night. also they are opportunistic hunters so if they see something small like a child or dog they will go for it. that is why your not supposed to let your children near the shore even if you are with them unless you hold them the whole time.also anywhere there is a sign no swimming is because of gators if you see a sign that says designated swimming that means it is okay to swim but even that's not guaranteed but you definitely do not swim where there is a no swimming sign because that means there are most likely gators. that's why Disney is not at fault here. my heart and prayers go out to the family of the toddler for this tragic accident.

I had been in that area before. It had wire fencing around it and also do not enter the signs. No swimming, steep drop offs. But working with the public I know they do what they want, anyway, and the child paid the ultimate price. And that dark water is scary, Why?

Yes Disney is responsible. Yes they can control the alligators. Yes they are responsible for protecting the people who come. The boy wasn’t in the water he was on the beach , where there were chairs and they were allowed to be. Disney creates an atmosphere of letting your guard down and of being safe
We have Crocodiles here in Australia, and one or two people a year are taken, But we put up signs to warn folks of the dangers, seems to me Disney should have had signs up to warn people. So I hope that family gets a good lawyer, take a big chunk out of Disney and make them never be so irresponsible again...
Well I fully agree with you. But gators are very different from crocs. You can go swimming in a lake or river with gators in it and be fine. Can't do the same with crocs.
Wow...Disney irresponsible? I'm sorry but if anyone is at fault it is the parents. Your child is two, you are the parent and letting them hang out in water that was forbidden to go in. NO SWIMMING means don't get in. There's reports here in Orlando that say that family wasn't just getting their feet wet, they were in there.
Keefe Flynn I was forbidden to swim in. The kid was a few meters from the parents paddling, as another chid had been only an hour before. As a parent from a State unfamiliar with the Alligator issue in Florida had I have seen a sign saying beware Alligators!!! I would not go near the place, let aloe have my child paddle. Perhaps Disney knew this, thus it didn't put signs up telling folk about the man eaters about. Bad for profits not doubt.
Bullshit, regarding the signs. ALLIGATORS! BEWARE should've been posted. That kid was right by the shore and not swimming. If the parents SAW AN ALLIGATOR SIGN they wouldn't have been NEAR that lagoon. Disney is reasonable for this boys tragic death. I know I never dreamed that their man made lakes were connected to waterways. People assume they're safe playing on a beach where Disney provides chairs and sand buckets and nightly movies. Come on. They didn't post ALLIGATOR warnings because it would hurt BUSINESS if they did at that overpriced resort!
Siren Song it’s actually the parents fault. There was a sign that said no swimming. Or possibly just thinking that the parents didn’t see the sign and they went there just thinking everything would be ok
Disney is liable... Sadly, Carelessness from both sides are the end result. The real victims are the child and alligator. Facts: They were at a family park were they should have separated the wild life from the humans. The park gives a lot of its visitors a false sense of security. A two year old is never 100# safe in the hands of some adults, that's just life. I could be going on and on and most would get mad at what I say but that's because they probably don't think that far ahead, like I do and the park certainly didn't.. Rip little one, you didn't stand a chance...
Disney is at fault for not ensuring the safety of their visitors. End of story. Disney was well ready to charge them for the visit to their family resort, they better be ready to pay up for their negligence.
This was a terrible act of negligence on the part of Disney. They’re Neighbors in hospitality biz posted warning signs about alligators and poisonous cottonmouth snakes decades before this avoidable tragedy. Poor Dad did in fact have no chance by himself in saving his Son. I grew up on a lake in Florida. This avoidable tragedy caused by Disney’s fanaticism in placing their theming concerns over basic Public Safety, and the subsequent media cover up by Disney, should be a hallmark of Bob Iger’s legacy along with his turning a blind eye to genocide in China.
Why is the parent allowing the child to swim in a No Swimming Zone? The sign says swimming. That should be a warning that it is not safe to be in the water, especially allowing your 2 year old to swim
if i saw a no swiming sign in a beach id think its there because there arent life guards arround, and if i go swim and something happens the place is liable for not having warned me. No swiming doesnt always mean its dangerous, thats why many people dont take it seriously. No swimming is not the same as Aligators in the water, DANGER!, anyways, the kid could have been attacked by just being near the shore, no swimming required in this case, also he wasnt swimming, wetting your feet is allowed in most no swimming areas
In most of North America I'd agree with you about the no swimming signs but this if Florida and gators are everywhere; swimming pools, golf courses, sunbathing on roads. In Florida on holiday I've noticed a lot of signs that say don't feed the gators instead of no swimming.... does that mean you can swim as long as you don't feed them? Of course not. Some common sense was needed here and it was lacking. I live in Canada and there are plenty of people who get out of the cars to photograph 400lbs black bears. There are many places without signs at all because bears, like alligators, don't stay in one place. But just like this tragic situation, they didn't think about it, and as a result they end up as victims.
I live on a large natural lake in NC. We are on what I understand the northernmost boundary of alligators range. Around this lake are canals dug when roads were built to build up the roadbed and drain off water from same. There s a large population of alligators that live here and it is not unusual at all to see them swiming and sunning in the lake but they prefer the quieter canals around the lake with less boat traffic. Years ago before we knew better it was common practice to throw bread or anything edible to the gators but since, laws and signs have been in place to stop this practice. Luckily to my knowledge we ve never had a problem between people and our gators. I ve always liked seeing them and knowing we have them. I ve had some scary moments with my dogs and I ve heard of a couple occasions when someone had a dog attacked and taken and while that isn t a good thing, the gators are just being gators. A few occasionally leave and have populated the swamps and creeks we have plenty of and that has caused roadkills and inevitably one will find itself in someones yard and either gets removed by wildlife officials or I ve heard turned into gator sandwiches. I hope we always have a symbol like them that some wildness is left and hope we continue to get along and have no problems with them.
The bear analogy is insulting and ridiculous. 25 years since they've seen a bear in town, THREE WEEKS since Disney was told a gator went after a child. B.s. I have lost all respect for Jack Hanna.
Because ABC was reporting on a story that involves Disney, which is a conflict of interest. The viewer should be aware of this, even if they are trying to remain unbias in the reporting.
If you know there are gators on the swap. Why wouldn't Disney put a sign. No swimming means water is shallow don't swim . you may hurt. It doesn't mean you can't go in the water and play on there.. A kid has died because of the mistake done by Disney. A warning sign saying gator in water be cautious would have been alerted anyone not to go in the water. The kid can't read but the parents can. This is so sad. My prayers are with the family.
Well... if the crappy "parents" didn't take heed off the no swimming sign, what makes you think they are intelligent enough to pay attention to another sign? The parents need to be charged with their son's death. If you see area that says "do not enter", and your child walks in, and gets electrocuted because there are loose electric wires, and dies, it is your fault as well. It says do not enter. There doesn't need to be a reason. Just DON'T DO IT!
Who would ever think that there would be a wild alligator eating tourists for dinner on a private, exclusive Disney RESORT!! NO ONE!! The child wasn't swimming. There were at LEAST five alligators in that man-made lake at the time that they later found. It's sad that this happened (creepy) but NOW Disney is doing all they can to prevent further loss/injuries/deaths. LONG OVERDUE! Family not liable. Disney is. They KNOW it.
Disney is BUILT on TOP of marshland just like the rest of Florida. The sign said NO SWIMMING. Disney doesn't have to give a reason why they have places that are out of bounds or why certain restrictions are put in place. The parents should have known better than to let a young child unattended near a body of water anyways that's basic safety when it comes to any young child and could be viewed as negligence in itself.
when I go to a public pool there's a fence around it i didn't see any around it in the video some body see one?? Where there any under water fencing installation installed?? Disneyland Orlando.. sorry this is nothing but a pathetic attempt at swaying the public for your sympathy and not loose tourists!!!😡😡😡😡
He lose his credit when he try to explain that it is not Disney 's fault to not put up a sign warning about the gators . They knew about them and chose to ignore .
What about No Swimming did you and others not understand, break the rules, expect the consequences, at that point your taking life into your own hands.
@@johnnylego807 What a callous response. Yes, alligators are to be expected in Florida. But people travel to Disney from all over the world, and not all are aware of that fact, especially when staying in a place that is designed to seem like the safest, happiest place in the world. Also they were not swimming. The child was paddling on the beach, right at the edge of the water, not swimming in it. A sign warning of alligators would have been much safer than a "no swimming" sign.
@@scarletamazon3455 That’s fair, but what do you mean the child was paddling at the beach, yet not in the water? So where was he attacked exactly, the context of the situation is important in assessing who’s fault is at play?
I get sick thinking the child was alive before it was dismembered by the alligator and or drown. Horrific way for a child to go. That family is lucky to still have other children. I have just one child. If I lost my child and was no longer a parent, I’d end my life because he is my life.
@@sarahj30 I lived in Tampa, FL for a few years and I never even got to see an alligator other than when I traveled to Miami and went to the Everglades to see them. We did all of the tourist stuff many years before I ever moved there. Guess I was fortunate to only ever see tiny lizards while living there. What I don’t understand is, even though I don’t like to think about it…why would an alligator take a human for food but not eat it?
Its Not Disney's Fault. People find gators in shopping malls out there. Maybe Disney should have had warning signs. But I would like to think everyone in the US at least would know that that is GATOR country.
I know a lot about animals...and one thing I know is the exaggerated facts like a gator can feel vibration for a mile...ahh no. There is too much water activity happening, causing sound and vibration at all times to call that fact
@ABC News Disneyland..how many times are you going to keep trying to make excuses for your obviously negligent property!! Sounds to me like your just scared you're about to get sued and your making excuses!! Disneyland with all of their billions should have had this under control bottom line!!! Quit back pedalling!!😡😡
+Scanty Woof go to CBS news and watch tonight..there was another incident. and Disneyland Orlando did nothing thank goodness it was daytime and the father saw the gator before it got his son! the manager stated that they were pet's!!!
1. It makes 0 sense for Disney wanting alligators to attack guests. They want money, not to lose money... 2. It's Florida, alligators are as common as birds in Florida, to the point that they commonly pop up in fenced off backyard swimming pools. 3. They don't just have no swimming signs posted. They have life guards and regularly patrol to watch for gators on their fenced off property....
00:32 Don't say "Disney is the safest place in the world" when a two year old dies from a gator. That doesn't sound like the safest place in the world.
I feel terrible about this but no swimming means don’t go in water aswell u are in Florida any big body of water will most likely have a gator or more in it. People say it’s man made but forget it’s connected to a canal to the woodsy water.
It's a wild animal doing what it does. It was human error that allowed the tragic event to occur and unless corrections are made, it will happen again. Why catch the gator? To satisfy the evil in your heart? Leave the animals alone.
Roha Waha yeah, I would beg to differ. I think it is FAR more juvenile - immoral even - to be as ignorant as you; to not see value in the lives of other animals.
I would like to hear the reaction of the Forida's Gater-Boys... They are all for the conservation of gaters. The volunteer for nucince calls for the FDW. Just want to hear from someone who kinda speaks for the gater. But all on all.... My GOD! That poor poor family. My heart goes out to them. They will be in my prayers.
This total fluff piece is disgusting and an insult to this family that has lost their child. The reporter even STATES at the beginning that Disney owns ABC, as if to say "Be careful who you condemn here, Hanna!" Just disgusting. As a FL native I know for 100% FACT that Disney has been aware of gators on their land since before they even bought it 40+ years ago. They CHOSE to quietly try to control the gators, even obtaining an OPEN PERMIT, which most other people don't get!, to catch and exterminate the gators on Disney's land! ALL OVER FLORIDA there are signs warning people that the area is a natural wildlife habitat with a pic of gators, and to not feed them or not go near the water. The kid was NOT swimming, and a NO SWIMMING sign is NOT any kind of sufficient warning about killer animals that can go onto the land! Disney had a DUTY to their guests to give them REAL warnings, not fluff No Swimming signs. They are 100% NEGLIGENT, and it's sad that you can't even trust tool ABC!
Sad and horrific. Disney, with all of its ability and technology, should simply remove all alligators from its properties. If they can have hundreds of people changing light bulbs, they can afford ten to monitor and remove the gators.
Well another comment stated that there are close to two million alligators in and around the state of Florida, so I'd bet there would be about fifty or so alligators in that one artificial pond.
Even if they removed them they'd just swim back in. Theres no way to monitor all the gators in the area. Also this has never happened before so why would they prepare for this.
From this point on they should monitor it. Hey, in other parts of the country, we have hunting seasons to reduce deer populations. Farmers are given special permission to go beyond regular limits to protect crops. So, why not alligators at Disney. Hell, they could make money off of culling the alligators - Disney hunting, alligator meat, and alligator purses. Go, Disney, Go - make money and keep your parks safe.
Even though that might work you have to consider that unlike deers gators are really aggressive and a lot harder to hunt (also terrifying to children around the park). Also I don't know about meat but I do know purses mainly come from farmed alligators and crocodiles. However I do agree they need to at least tag them to track them to make sure they aren't near the shore.
Could this be more biased? She says Disney owns ABC......its obvious by the way Jack and this chick are wording things they are trying to cover for Disney
Disney is the safest place in the world?? Hahaha reports say otherwise. It's a resort where people don't live but go to lose their lives in some cases...wouldn't call that safe
The signs could have included "gators love to swim, too," or something referencing alligators/crocodiles. But, it costs more money for extra letters...maybe Disney was trying to save money.

That should be a warning that it is not safe to be in the water, especially allowing your 2 year old to swim
the little boy was only walking in ankle deep beside his father 😞
if i saw a no swiming sign in a beach id think its there because there arent life guards arround, and if i go swim and something happens the place is liable for not having warned me.
That is their own fault. No swimming means don't go in the water, or obviously you are too stupid to live.
+mstiegra BITCH I'LL BE WATCHING FOR YOU!!
The sign said no swimming
Why is it important to note that Disney is the parent company of ABC?
Because ABC was reporting on a story that involves Disney, which is a conflict of interest. The viewer should be aware of this, even if they are trying to remain unbias in the reporting.
To try to remove any conflict of interest in case there is a perception of bias
If you know there are gators on the swap. Why wouldn't Disney put a sign. No swimming means water is shallow don't swim . you may hurt. It doesn't mean you can't go in the water and play on there.. A kid has died because of the mistake done by Disney. A warning sign saying gator in water be cautious would have been alerted anyone not to go in the water. The kid can't read but the parents can. This is so sad. My prayers are with the family.
So if the parents can they why didn't they make a better judgment call?
Well... if the crappy "parents" didn't take heed off the no swimming sign, what makes you think they are intelligent enough to pay attention to another sign? The parents need to be charged with their son's death. If you see area that says "do not enter", and your child walks in, and gets electrocuted because there are loose electric wires, and dies, it is your fault as well. It says do not enter. There doesn't need to be a reason. Just DON'T DO IT!
i miss seeing jack and letterman together
He had me til the end.... 😂
That child could not read no means no. It doesnt mean its OK to get in ankle deep
Hes a two year old boy he did not know there should have been alligator signs
That is why this was the parents fault. They failed him. PERIOD.
PSA.....THERE ARE GATORS IN THE SOUTH.....
when I go to a public pool there's a fence around it i didn't see any around it in the video some body see one?? Where there any under water fencing installation installed?? Disneyland Orlando.. sorry this is nothing but a pathetic attempt at swaying the public for your sympathy and not loose tourists!!!😡😡😡😡
Gators thought the child was food. Thank God they found his body
Interesting story, but I don't think anyone wants to rub a gator's belly.
Disney's getting sued.......and they will pay. But that won't bring that little boy back.
He lose his credit when he try to explain that it is not Disney 's fault to not put up a sign warning about the gators . They knew about them and chose to ignore .
Disney owns ABC and Jack was brought on to soften the blow to Disney. Soooo obvious !
So where was he attacked exactly, the context of the situation is important in assessing who’s fault is at play?
at least theres an outlet to get rid of annoying cats in the neighborhood
I'm from Nebraska I never Heard of this story 😔
Seems that in all gator attacks that I've heard of is the result of a lack of common sense and to some degree, complacency.
I get sick thinking the child was alive before it was dismembered by the alligator and or drown. Horrific way for a child to go. That family is lucky to still have other children. I have just one child. If I lost my child and was no longer a parent, I’d end my life because he is my life.
Kid was found intact, so no dismembering.
@@Seek1878 i think the head was crushed. alligator dragged child by the head
The child was not dismembered.
@@LaPlaztique they store food for later. That’s why whole bodies will be found lodged under a log or something, so they can be eaten later.
You gotta listen for the ticking!
The family is definitely going to sue Disney.
Huge - and win
Hemy Slaker nah...not enough to pay for their surviving kid's education.
wangdangdoodilydang 8 figures won't be enough? What the hell are you talking about
Its Not Disney's Fault. People find gators in shopping malls out there. Maybe Disney should have had warning signs. But I would like to think everyone in the US at least would know that that is GATOR country.
Thats the dumbest family in the history of FLA.
He kept saying i cant blame disney like he was paid to say it lol
Are you telling me Disney couldn't have at least had warning signs and a fence then if that didn't stop you it's on you .
First, @ signs don't work on mentioning people, second, what are the supposed to do?
+Dr. Cinque all the sign said was no swimming that wasn't enough 😞
+Dr. Cinque third they probably won't get sued
+Scanty Woof
go to CBS news and watch tonight..there was another incident. and Disneyland Orlando did nothing thank goodness it was daytime and the father saw the gator before it got his son!
the manager stated that they were pet's!!!
Paul Polpiboon There was a no swimming sign. The parents were irresponsible.
I feel terrible about this but no swimming means don’t go in water aswell u are in Florida any big body of water will most likely have a gator or more in it. People say it’s man made but forget it’s connected to a canal to the woodsy water.
why are you trying to catch the gator? leave it alone.
The gator snatched his son you idiot
I would have turned up son-of-a-bitch into a Loui Vuitton bag and some Gator nuggets
It's a wild animal doing what it does. It was human error that allowed the tragic event to occur and unless corrections are made, it will happen again. Why catch the gator? To satisfy the evil in your heart? Leave the animals alone.
Mahdi Al-Faraj obviously, you moron.
Have you ever tried gator nuggets?
So what are you supposed to do ? Stay still like maybe you have to with a shark ?
Some people should just stay home.
Too much building
There are way too many Gators in Florida , its closer to two million. What state would put up with a Million Brown bears.
I agree. we need to start a hunt lol
"There are nine billion humans, dude who wants that many humans? They are so destructive for the environment. We should start a hunt!" - Mr. Alien
Jay Comix Pretty juvenile there Jay !
Why should the animals suffer when we are intruding on their homes. We are overpopulated not the gators.
Roha Waha yeah, I would beg to differ. I think it is FAR more juvenile - immoral even - to be as ignorant as you; to not see value in the lives of other animals.
Too Bad There's not very few of them left in the wild, God only knows how many of them is left is in the wild.
How odd no one ever asks Jack about the kid mauled by a large cat at his private zoo in TN.
Your in florida and I dont care what fucking state you come from you should know theres gators in florida
***** Nobody died in those incidences they were just attacks and it was 30 years ago, probably why the put up the no swimming sign.
Could this be more biased? She says Disney owns ABC......its obvious by the way Jack and this chick are wording things they are trying to cover for Disney
Even Disney can't control all the gators, its fucking florida, they're everywhere.
so sad
Disney is the safest place in the world?? Hahaha reports say otherwise. It's a resort where people don't live but go to lose their lives in some cases...wouldn't call that safe
Kinda looks like Sylvester Stallone
If Stallone and Crocodile Dundy had a kid.
We're living in their home??? Hahahahahaha
We Apologise but due to the A Spray to betels the Plane Impacted the Ground
The signs could have included "gators love to swim, too," or something referencing alligators/crocodiles. But, it costs more money for extra letters...maybe Disney was trying to save money.
Hide your kids from gators, gorillas, and Trump. All are a bad influence.
Goofy's fault
GO GATORS
