There is some slight build quality issues even after 6 yrs in production. The belt for example is loud and noisy , kick stand screws are seeing rust and the seat should have a firmer backing, its flexing while going over bumps. Brakes , belt throttle grip etc fades fast in this and replacements are expensive. Their is no proper owners manual on how to do some basic stuff, its just an e-document showing pre-riding checks.

While we are talking about these big brands in the EV 2 wheeler industry, there are few other small players which are gradually proliferating in the country under our noses as we speak. Hindustan Power, Prakriti, E Rahi, Rabbitor, etc are some few I have come across recently and I also had the opportunity to ride Hero Electric Flash Lithium & Hindustan Power Booster+. You need no paperwork to own these and you get basically get the same privileges of owning a scooter with the amenities of a bicycle. These scooters have crazy acceleration and can attain speeds of upto to 80 kmph in its highest mode. Also, the range can be played around with depending on how many lead acid batteries you wish to connect. Usually they offer 60-70 kms on a single charge. I have no idea how these vehicles (especially the booster+) being so heavy and travelling at such high speeds aren't controlled at all by the government. You don't need RTO approval, numbers, or insurance, police hassles can easily be avoided. I would suggest rather going for these than getting Ather or OLA. I was planning to get an Ather but I got a Hindustan Power booster + instead. Worth it, good built & and great features.
Oh! The user experience of using a touch screen is weird on a scooter.....They realised most people can only use it when the scooter is parked and not really use it when riding as it is more of a hassle/distraction 🤷🤷
If we leave aside the sales numbers (considering that the best selling EV is actually the worst among all aka OLA) Ather is a true gem of a brand from our country.
