Setting up a Hatchling Snake Enclosure/Tub - Cookies Critters - 2021

In todays tutorial, we are demonstrating how to setup a tub/enclosure for a baby snake (hatchling snake).
Hatchling snakes need to be housed in a small tub/enclosure to feel safe and secure. This will ensure that you have the appropriate temperature gradient and that the snake will maintain a healthy eating routine.
When providing heat for the hatchling snakes tub, ensure that it is regulated by a good quality thermostat. This will prevent the snake from becoming too hot or too cold. The rule of thumb is approximately 1/3 of the tub to be heated.
We use paper towel for the first 12 months of the snakes life for ease of cleaning and ease of identifying any possible health issues. After 12 months we move our yearling snakes into larger tubs and enclosures using butchers paper and loose substrate.
The baby snake should have access to a minimum of one hide but preferably two. One should be placed on the hot side and the other placed on the cool side. Make sure to choose a hide that is appropriate to the size of the snake, bearing in mind that snakes like to hide in tight small places.
The cool side of the tub should also have a water bowl. The water bowl should be large enough for the snake to coil up and submerse themselves in the water.

This is great! I am hoping to get a Darwin from a hatchling within the next 12mo. I have no previous snake handling/owning experience and I don’t know anyone with any but I have loved snakes from a young age and it’s been a dream to get one.

Only question is, is it fine for the snake not to have UV and what would you recommend for lighting in this kind of setup?
Lighting isn’t required for this setup. Once they move into an upgraded enclosure you can offer overhead heat and uvb.
would it be possible to do some videos on the breeding side of snakes and build/set up of tub rack systems?

I got 10L tubs on special on amazon (same sistema brand). I assume these will be ok for my hatchy spotted and woma when they arrive.

Die Platzierung der Höhle an der kühlen Seite ist richtig und naturgemäß, die zweite Höhle auf der Heizmatte ist überflüssig und unnatürlich. Die Schlangen suchen Höhlen zur Abkühlung oder als Rückzug bei Wetterunbilden auf, zum Aufwärmen gehen sie nach draußen, in der Natur in die Sonne. Die Wasserschale gehört weg vom Höhleneingang, bleibt aber im kühleren Bereich. Ein kleiner Kletterzweig ist für Antaresia-Babys erforderlich und etwas Grün.

Is this ok for baby hognose snakes? I heard they like to borrow.
I have a hatchling corn snake but I have a 20 gal should I remove most of the hides to make it more like this or should I keep all the enrichment
What did you do in the end how’s it gone ?I got a spotted python hatchling I had a 20 gal but got a small 9l starter rub he’s been in that a couple of weeks and I’m thinking of moving him in the 20 gal but don’t know if he’s to small and it’s to soon ..
With the thermostat, what do you set it to? (Is it 32-34° ambient?) And does the heat mat ever get too hot on the surface compared to air temp? The Reptile one heat may I have says it doesn’t need a thermostat but the cut off is 50° 😅
Thats a saftey cut out, not a thermostat. Get a themostat so you don't cook your snake :)

Too many holes could lead to maybe losing a bit of humidity. If your snake is hardy then it should probably be fine.
Hello Cookie, thankyou for your video. I had done all my research before getting my baby Stimson, she or he, we call her Bindi, has an appetite that i didn't expect. She is 6 months old and I am feeding her fuzzy mice, 1 every Friday night. Come Monday -Tuesday she is back out hunting again. I have 4 more fuzzies for her then will be moving up a size. The fuzzies are leaving a nice little bulge in her tummy. I was told to only feed her once a week, could i please get your advice. Id hate to think im starving her.
Mate my son has a couple month old children's python the guy sold me a dodgy thermostat what can I do to heat him safely untill I get home this coming week pls
If the area you live in is coming into winter I would highly recommend replacing the thermostat ASAP. Unfortunately any source of heat that isn’t regulated can cause heat stroke, dehydration and even burns.
Using a hot water bottle that the water is replaced frequently would provide some warmth. Make sure to wrap the bottle with a few towels to reduce the risk of burning the snake.
Covering the tank or tub with towels or blankets will retain heat too.
