Justin Herbert defends staying at Oregon for senior year | Pro Football Talk | NBC Sports
/ nbcsports
What an intelligent likeable young man, no doubt in my mind he'll be a special leader, I know he's been criticised as being introverted but I think those critiques a unwarranted.
Right, theres a difference between not caring about media obligations and how you are with your teammates in the locker room
idk he scared me with his answers here. his idol was a bust, he's already talking about life after football, and he seems nervous. seems genuine sure, but this is a job interview, show yourself in the best light. he seems lost.
I know his family and there amazing people. He is nice kind person and I look up to him greatly.
You were right
He did he’s a special leader already . Rook of the year.
Never been out of Eugene ? Their acting like he never traveled to an away game haha
Herbert is mad smart and well-spoken. This was a great interview! Florio and Simms are a+
Yeah but Mcshay thinks he’s “introverted “ and that means he’s a poor leader. This guy was the clear #1 last year when Murray And Haskins were in the same draft class . He just decided to return for his senior year . Goes to show his loyalty and passion for oregon football
Mad BORING mad LAME favorite QB he said Joey HARRINGTON 😂😂😂😂😂
@Fizzgig sorry hater haha
Fizzgig He grew up in Eugene ? I’m from Ann Arbor ,a die hard michigan fan ,if i could go anywhere like he could , i’d for sure pick my hometown team . Not everyone desires to play at alabama , georgia , ohio state , or clemson.
@Fizzgig what
Herbert knows how to deflect questions he doesnt want to answer and does it very well.
(Not saying its a bad thing, but im going to school for broadcasting and notice it easier)
Its something you gotta be able to do as a QB for sure lol
Justin comes across humble and less arrogant than Joe Burrow. But confidence is everything. .... Palmer really threw The Bengals organization under the bus, but you got to win in this league.
SuperOmnicron Joe Burrow is humble as well.
Amir Lorenzo I’m getting a Josh Rosen vibe here ... he has intangibles .... only did it once. I think Palmer and do are enabling him. Burrow is a good story. Some legend ... and we all know Legend is likely fiction.
SuperOmnicron Josh Rosen? He’s nothing like that dude stop it. Just had the greatest college season ever for a QB and hasn’t had one arrogant interview. Stop it
Really wish Justin good luck at the combine.
6:12 Wow that’s nuts because Herbert literally ran a 4.69 😳
I'm watching this in 21 , after his ROY !!! Go Bolts !!!⚡️⚡️⚡️
I’m 70 & a huge fanboy of Justin Herbert!
Now he’s a stud qb leading your team. Congrats man!
In my opinion the most talented QB in the upcoming draft. Can't wait to see him in the NFL.
Well this aged excellently
4.0 gpa draft him he is intelligent and studious....he’s not ra ra guy
Robert Agyeman Botchway Basically a less crazy Josh Allen ... has got to get the decision making down.
Two GMs overheard
“He has intangibles”
-“Yeah but he’s got small hands”
“He put up numbers”
-“He only did it once.”
“He’s got it, he was a coaches son”
... he’s humble . Did you see him cry in his acceptance speech”
- “So ... he’s a good actor.”
He posed with a cigar .... he’s self aware but not self aware to know he hasn’t done it on this level, yet.
@@SuperOmnicronsj44 I don't understand "he was good for only 1 year" argument. It makes no sense. He had the best QB season of all time for only 1 year. Justin Herbert is impressive as an individual after the college season was over. That is great, and he will do well in the NFL. But you cannot compare Herbert to Burrow in any way. One is just exceptionally more accomplished than the other.
J. Burrow 2018+2019 combined stats.
CMP: 621 ATT: 906 AVG CMP%: 68.5 YDS: 8565 TDs: 76 INT: 11
All this in arguably the most competitive conference in CFB and against 12 AP Top 10 ranked teams.
J. Herbert 2018+2019 combined
CMP: 526 ATT: 832 AVG CMP%: 63.2% YDS: 6622 TDs: 61 INT: 14.
Against 3 AP Top 10 ranked teams.
I think Herbert is going to do really well in the NFL.
Just about all QBs are 4.0 GPA just being a QB in college alone you have to be smart!!!
Herbert is crazy talented! His passes are poetry in motion. I love to watch him play.
As an Alabama fan, I really like Justin Herbert as a prospect and I hope he goes to a team that will utilize him in such a way that will allow him to be successful. He's gifted athletically and he's intelligent.
I know people have red flags on him but I think he would be perfect for the chargers. We have solid decent guys that can help him grow and mature in life and in football. And tyrod being on the team gives them so breathing room if he's a bust.
I agree.
christopher belleau I think if he’s drafted their they shouldn’t rush him, Tyrone can help him learn the system and how the NFL is and he could mentor him and the charges have a good coach that I think could help mature him
@@PDXKing99 "... if he’s drafted *their* they shouldn’t rush him..."

ItzAn Opinion my bad my grammar is terrible I know lol
christopher belleau He just has to cut down on telegraphing his passes, staring down receivers and forcing passes.... great mobility, can throw every route. Terrific athlete. Could surprise a lot of people.
This kid is the real Deal
As a Charger fan, It’s still surreal that 2 QBs got drafted ahead of him. His talent level is off the charts, he’s able make throws no one else except Mahomes can make. Like he was built in a lab 👶🐐⚡️ BOLT UP
Now chargers have Harbaugh coaching. He will find a way to get Herbert really going. Bad coach in the past.
LA Chargers. Bet on it.
wandering spirit good job
Respect
Ayooo
W
I've heard one of the knocks on him is he's not a Rah rah jump up & down teamleader, how's that working out for johnny "football" manziel...lol
John Gammon Kyler was the same and not bad for rookie of the year
@@Satoshi_Slapahotho Baker Mayfield
Manziel has an over reliance on his legs and could read as an nfl quarterback. Suuuper different
@@karimC35 I was speaking more towards leadership, knock on Herbert is he's quiet, I don't have a problem with that if he produces on the field, some others prefer the Rah-Rah qb's...
And Baker Mayfield lol
GIve him a team that has good receivers please.
Ummm...wouldn't that be a request *every QB* wants coming out of the draft...? :-)
@@itzanopinion of course, but some rookies have less talented receivers than other QBs.
And a line.
Unlike what he had at Oregon..lol
@@paulsmallriver6066 and he got it with the Chargers
I'm a dolphins fan. This was a good interview and I like this kid but I think he would fit best as a charger. Good luck justin
Why?
@@milton1448 I think he is of the same mold like Rivers. I can just see him there. No other reason really, it is just the impression I got.
Do you people see mock drafts and just regurgitate what you read without any reason at all? Honestly Herbert and Rivers are not alike.
@@theghostlyone In terms of size and arm strength, they are. A lot more alike than say Tua and Rivers. C'mon maaaan. Do you even watch football?
@@militarymindset8901 Rivers never had a strong arm
Ok I love this guy 💯
3:42 Simms was ready to close his hands lol
Herb is the Guy
Learn something new everyday, no idea that the college ball was different the NFL ball
Yeah, the visual white stripes are gone on an NFL one too. Makes it harder to see
😂😂😂
Bengals fan here please draft chase young and trade up for Herbert 😌😌😌 also a ducks fan tho but honestly rather have young and Herbert other than just joe burrow
Herbert better than Burrow, but y’all still got a nice one in burrow.
He's kind of a throwback to the Marino generation. There's something of an 80's film about him
Its the hair bro
He sounds husky and bro-ish like Marino, like an 80's football bro.
I remember when they put Harrington on a skyscraper in NYC. That was such a HUGE deal when that happened.
Pick him up LA!! Wanna see this incredible talent In a chargers Jersey!
This kid has a very bright future ahead of him. Hope he takes advantage of it and gets on the right team.
I think he will become my wife's favorite NFL player, same high school. Thanks for this upload, always interesting to gain more insight.
Honestly gonna be a steal for a team he’d be perfect for your franchise
Steal? Dude's gonna bust lol
@@aliatravis1220 hold my beer
I wonder if Herbert decided to go to the draft when he decided to stay one more year in college. Would the Chargers would've gotten him if he fell all the way to us or skip him
Giants wanted him
He would be such a great fit for the Colts 🤞🏼
Too bad he’s charger bound
JTH Ugh lowkey know you are right :(
@@JohnnySinsUnderstudy W
This guy is an early first round pick, no question
I live in Eugene and yet I still had now idea who he was til the beginning of his senior year
Justin will be the next big thing, I’ll look back at the replies to this comment at the end of the 2022 season and see what happens
I hope for my chargers! I think he will be way better than everyone is saying! Especially with the tools the chargers have
True dat. I'm friends with his family and there amazing
DMD Films - your chargers got him
Brody Bower I’m super stoked! He will be able to sit and learn, develop, and has weapons waiting for him! He is in a great position to succeed as a QB
You nailed it except for the year. The time is now!
Top 7 qb in the league by 2022
Already is
Nice prediction
ESPN were saying that he has the same personality as Marcus Mariota, not very Alpha was the main point.
As long as he can sling the ball to decent receivers, that’s all that matters
Definitely alot of Joey Harrington fans in Oregon.
Bucc's need this guy.
Technomad Really? I’m not sure who could be a deep ball passer on the level we need. I mean there is no Aron Rodgers equivalent in this NFL draft.
@@samrosendahl392 I think I just want someone different under centre, Winston's just killing our team 😕.
@@technomad1770 And he brakes them back sometimes too...
@@adrianbuck8772 If he did it for 10 or 11 games , I'd have no complaints.
@@technomad1770 Taff man. I think you roll with him one more time.
Chris "Let Me See Your Grip" Simms
He's the best QB prospect
He better be wearing powder blue in 2020. Only the Chargers could blow this one...
Mychael Redig looks like ur dream came true bolt up
⚡️⚡️⚡️
I think there’s a good chance he could be drafted by the dolphins
Beast
Could easily be a charger but still not sure
Future Charger!
6 months later......
Hope Bengals get this Guy
He should be the lions next qb
Colts either need to get him or Jordan love
Retweet
Dude, I like Joey Harrington way better than Chris Simms.
The guy in the center wants the attention to him.
They never asked him once why he stayed another year. They just talked about the combine and what he expects.
He wanted to go out with his guys.
Turned out great, won the rose bowl. He loves his players.
The more I see this guy, the more I like him, I would not mind at all if dolphins draft him
They need some linemen to protect him as well. And weapons since they left go of both.
I’m the president of the Joey Harrington lovers club
Fins Up
The Lions are still having Harrington nightmares
It goes beyond Harrington, lol. the lions in general are a nightmare
@@markdouglas1601 Can't be as bad as the *Bengals?* ...right? LOL!
@@itzanopinion lol Bengals are actually my second team and ya lions are way worse.
The Lions destroyed a great QB.
Harrington was great.
The Bengals will destroy Burrow.
OROTY....
Buccaneers 🏴☠️
Waow
Would like to see him in Carolina with Matt Rhule & Joe Brady, but I'm guessing he'll be gone by then
dvsxavier why? The panthers have a high pick and they can trade up. I seriously see you guys having a chance to get him. You need him more than the Chargers who have a great backup and a veteran team which would probably do better with a veteran QB rather than some unpolished rookie.
If Carolina really loves him I think they can get him (trade up a little bit). Or they try to rebuild and take a player like Isaiah Simmons, Lamb, Jeudy,Willis... .
Chargers
I don't see him doing football long-term.... He's smart to take advantage of the money though.
why's that
@@mewsao nothing sound ..but he just has to vibe that he could walk away in any moment and be fine with that
Whose Herbert comparable too? I’m not sure I can even think of an elite QB whose 6’6.
A Mask not just height-wise but in general I would compare him to Carson Wentz (who is almost 6’6)
To me he’s A taller Ryan Tanniheil. Sorry for mis spell
Josh allen
Neal The Man HES not that talented
Joe Flacco is 6'6" and he is elite
He will fit with Bucs
This guy reminds me of a more athletic Tom Brady. Tall smart and has a rocket for an arm. Nobody thought Tom Brady was going to amount to much. I feel Herbert once he gets some real talented receivers with some heighth he is going to do really good. He is tall so he over throws alot of shorter guys. Give him a guy who can't jump and get under his rocket for an arm and he will be great.
Brady never had a good arm or was athletic. He reminds me of Joe Flacco with legs. Tall, huge arm, was very good but not great in college and the team around him wasn't great.
That word defend. It's vastly overused here.
Matt Ryan 2.0?
Joe Flacco with legs
Future Patriot.
Jit don’t know a playbook yet?? Wtf
Roberto Garaboto bruh what
As if he ran a 4.68 exact
That dude sounds like New York Giant QB. Anyways he is definitely getting drafted top 10
Sco Ducks
Joey Harrington 2.0. I hope the Chargers don't draft him!!!!

Thomas Anthony lol that’s the nfl
He seems like a really nice guy, hope he has success wherever he lands. 🐬
The more I see this guy, the more I like him, I would not mind at all if dolphins draft him
