Great tutorial as usual, one tip, on a Windows node connecting to Unraid Server, I added my network drives, and more importantly the TDARR directory to the Windows Security Exclusisions list as it was chunking through 6 CPU cores while doing GPU encoding :)
For the Windows-only setup (server and node) but a network share (in my case on \\media.local), you can also directly use UNC paths: \\?\UNC\media.local\ will point to the share and work without having to map a disk name. Just an FYI. Thanks for the tutorial, Tdarr remains pretty obtuse in some ways but videos like this help.

Just discovered:
Tdarr under windows.
Notepad++ when undating the Tdarr_Node_Config.json file that it was reverting to the orginal file.
Since I have unraid running and attached and I needed the code server for another application I copied a copy of the .json file to the file server so that code server could access it. I tried the changes with code server and then copied the file from the file server back to the windows computer and it worked!

Excellent information. One question though; I see you mapped the transcode directory to your server here, but is it possible to keep the transcode folder on your local machine for performance reasons, and only map the library directory to the network location?
Glad I held off buying an expensive GPU for my unRAID server after the first video on Tdarr!

Anyone else have issues with the Tdarr_Node_Config.json mappings? If I enter the mapped drives as "T:/" the node says it can't find the file (even though the path and name appear correctly), if I try "T:\" it replaces the config file completely on startup, same if I try "\
as\tv"
I have each library as mapped drives in Windows
I have each library shared as "public (hidden)" in UNRAID
The node shows up in Tdarr server on UNRAID OK, and it tries to allocate it work OK.
I had this happen as well. Haven't had a chance to look into it yet.
@15:57 - what about the handbrake, ffmpeg and mkvpropedit entries in the JSON confg file for the node? you left those empty...if I'm using a windows computer with an NVIDIA card to transcode, so I need to point those to actual paths on my windows machine? ( and don't update the NAS docker-compose for these?)
This is neat but I'd love to see it with the Sonarr interface, installer so its a lot easier to setup and deploy. It shouldn't be this complicated IMO to install. Should run as a service in Windows for both the server or nodes, and shouldnt take a 18 minute video to explain nodes do the work, server manages the nodes.
It ain't that hard. This guy just waffles a bit more than needed and yer not so savy.

what if i want to use a Windows Server with Windows Node and i want to use local folder on each node to cache( temp) the transcode ?

Love the videos, already used the tdarr to reduce my library by 8tb so far
One question around performance, I have 4 different windows clients, a 1060, 1080 and 3070.
The best I can get from them is around 300fps, which is the same for all 3, but if i copy the same ffmpg command and do the transcode directly on the 3070, i get much higher. any thoughts as to what might be the bottleneck? The options are using the NVIDIA NVENC encoder.
Um interesting. Not sure to be honest. i will have to use cli with ffmpeg and see what results i get. thanks for watching
Not sure if solved it somehow but I think the bottleneck is the hdd you're using
If you use a Linus server and a windows node install the nfs feature in window and mount the share with that as performance with smb is terrible
Pro video tip: Drop the background music. Instead, use cut-scene music. Also use display scaling to enlarge what's on screen. I cant see s*** on my mobile 😂 Anyway great video thanks

Hi. Running tdarr with 2 GPU´s works fine on the dockers. But I am not able to get the node path translator on a separat Windows PC working. I have set up Rootshare and I can access it from the Windows PC. Any ideas would be much appreaciated.
I too would like an answer for this. How do I configure a Windows node "pathTranslators". Tdarr server is running on a separate machine (TrueNAS Scale).

be forewarned i was unable to get path translation to work until i modified it i had to put the remote path as the variable name for the container ie /media and /temp

i dont have a server.exe in the server folder after installing. Instead only two files linking me to the node webpage when clicking on it. Very frustrating and makees no sense.
Any updates on comparing power usage for transcoding with iGPU vs dedicated GPU?

Everything checks out but I get a Node registered continually every 5 seconds and in my unraid tdarr server it continually pops up with my new node and then drops out
Anyone experiencing this you cannot name your node with just numbers for example 1080, try gtx1080. works a charm now

No idea what happened but Tdarr node is now working on my laptop! Another question: Will Tdarr Node run on a Windows 7 computer? If so I may do some processing on it to spped things up a little. I know it is running slow in comparison to newer computers but what it does is one less for the other computers to do

Cool thing, but I can only run tdarr nodes on the same server. Whenever I try to connect another node it just keeps registering and crashes
I know this is an old video, so I don't have much hope that I'd get a response on this. But I've followed along with some of your other videos to set up tdarr on unraid, and it's using a RTX A4000 gpu that I have in that box. Although, I have other machines that I'd also like to put to use during the initial onslaught of transcodes. Specifically, I have a desktop with a Ryzen 3900X and AMD RX 6900XT, running windows. I have figured out the windows worker node and everything you have explained in this video, but I'm trying to figure out how to get that 6900XT to be used. I've added the "FFMPEG VAAPI HEVC Transcode" to my plugin stack, although I can't figure out if I also have to add some line(s) to my Tdarr_Node_Config.json file on the windows machine to tell it to use the amd gpu.

Able to have a node running on Unraid and my desktop computer. I run a total of 4 transcodes at once. Unable to get transcode to work from my windows laptop which runs a i5 processor. I have done a bunch of editing on the Tdarr_Node_Config file. was a problem to get the files to stay in the Tdarr_Node_Config file as it wanted to put in the Tdarr_Node_Config_Backup file. It still doenot start as it gives an error: checkng Node Path. I have even tried to copy the file from my desktop to the laptop as it works. Any suggestions?

If there is a 10gb network connection (between unraid and a windows 10 desktop) can this address be put into tdarr (server ip) for faster speeds?
Awesome tutorial. I got my windows pc node partially up and running to compliment my unraid server tdarr server instance and tdarr node. Thus far just the server has saved 3TB and is only 10-20% through my library.
Question: the node has connected to the tdarr server and i can see it, but all the transcodes error out. My windows pc has a amd RX 560 as the gpu. I assume thats the issue. Any ideas how to get it working? For now I had to turn off this extra node until I can figure out how to use the amd gpu with tdarr.
can I use my gpu for plex transcoding, tdarr and VM game steaming? or am I asking to much?, I would really like to have plex transcoding working and tdarr via the single gpu

Tried to follow the steps. I have a server running on mac and want to add windows computer as a node. After I config the Tdarr_node_config.json file and save it, I run the Tdarr_Node.exe It fails to connect to server. When I look back into the configs folder it had renamed my confugured config file to _backup and it created an unconfigured Tdarr_Node_Config.json file. In other words it refuses to use the altered config file. Any idea whats going wrong?
It doesn't like your json file. had the same problem - was missing a comma while setting up path translators. Some text editors will flag for missing/expected syntax.

One question: My Unraid server (Tdarr server) does not have a GPU (I'm using a CPU with graphics). My Windows client DOES have a GPU (GeForce GTX 750 Ti). Do I set up the GPU on the Tdarr server on Unraid, and just activate it on the Windows client?

I do use my unraid as a tdarr server. My unraid server does not have a gpu on it. so it transcodes using the CPU only, naturally. Now I added a windows 11 tdarr node and it registers with the unraid tdarr server just fine. The server on unraid, though, isnt set up for GPU transcoding (because of the lack of a gpu attached to unraid). How do I utilize the much more powerful CPU/GPU on my Windows machine?
You should see the server "node" set the cpu transcodes to zero. Then For the win11 gpu node click on it and set gpu transcodes to 3 or 4 same for health checks. Then only the windows 11 node will run.
Finished transcoding 4tb the other day since starting this two weeks ago. I have 6 nodes, 5 windows and 1 Mac. Doing some testing, using the handbrake GUI app x265 10bit I get an amazing quality transcode. Basically the exact same as the source with the exact same space saving as ffmpeg through tdarr. This got me thinking about using a plugin that makes use of the handbrake cli that comes with tdarr. Got everything configured but I could not get the preset I exported from the handbrake app to work on my Mac due to the network share needing to be smb for the Mac to access it. If I configure it for the Mac usage, then the Windows machines don't have access to the preset. Anyone got and idea to solve this? I gave up and went back to my generic plugin after reviewing one of my Windows nodes handbrake cli transcode through tdarr. The space saved wasn't as great as my generic or handbrake GUI app and the quality was exactly the same as the generic plugin
Anyone have instructions for configuring a specific gpu on windows? I think mine is using the integrated gpu instead of my nvidia 3070. The cpu is at 100 and the gpu is at almost zero which is why I have this suspicion. Also, I'm seeing 4 processes and I've heard you only get 3 with nvidia? I saw mr. invaders video setting it up on the unraid server but not on on windows. I'm not sure what his laptop is setup like but my suspicion is that it's using an integrated gpu as well even if it has a discrete? Would love to hear back about this as I've never done this before and maybe I'm 100 percent wrong. It's been known to happen
Morning! So I just configured my Win10 w/ dual GPU's as a Node (Unraid Server), however I'm getting and error "Please make sure IP and Port are correct else it may be a firewall issue." I'm currently running a UDMP and my server is on a separate VLAN compared to my machine. I've already gone into my firewall settings and created a rule for "LAN In / Source: Server (Tried both via Network and IP Address) / Destination: PC (IP Address) / Advanced: New / Established / Related"
Nothing.
I also looked and found a reddit post from 8mon ago and they mentioned adding a "--network bridge" in the config file, but that's specifically for DOCKER and the UNRAID config file doesn't look like that...
Any ideas?

It can take a long time for tdarr to see that and the message to go if there are alot of files in that share. Leave it a while and hopefully it should go. If it doesnt double check you are mapped to the correct location
@@SpaceinvaderOne Thanks for the tip, I figured I would only map to one particular episode within a folder but still did not work. I read that there may be an issue with mapping and not being elevated due to uac and the workaround was to mess around with regedit so just left it alone. I figured I would drop this until I upgrade to WIn11 and figure out the best way to get my PC to do the transcoding when it's on and have whatever i need node/server on the syn' docker. that's a ways down the road. in any case when i tested this on having the file on my PC it cut off 1.5gb off a 4gb file, AMAZING.
I had the same problem.
I know how to fix it now. instead using your mapped drive letter, use your server name or IP with the share name. for example, if your server mane is unraid and the share name movie, use \\unraid\movie.

Not sure if you mean 2 nodes on a windows PC with dual gpus. If so i dont think so, but i may be wrong hopefully someone else here maybe able to clarify. But if you mean just have 2 nodes for example one on Unraid and one on Windows. Yes you can do that. (or you could have 2 nodes on Unraid one with a 1070 and other a p200)

The music is a bit much, could have been lower so it wasn't competing with your vocals.

Looks like my GTX770 GPU does not support transcoding to H265 and my i4790K doesn't have the cores for the job.
Though Nvidia NVENC was introduced in the 600 series, NVDEC with 265 capabilities was later en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_NVDEC
Or I'm using the wrong plug-in (A47J). I want to keep all the audio channels (EN + native + commentary) and all the subtitles.
For the future it would be nice if you could zoom in when you explain something. On smaller Monitors it is sometimes hard to see what you are pointing at.
