The 60’s and 70’s has many songs about caring for each other, no matter who they were. Lord have mercy, we need music to inspire this caring now. With social media and other factors, people are so self centered and hateful it’s sickening😔
Galveston by Glen Campbel was the one that made me think about the guys going to Vietnam...not knowing if they would come back and missing the ones they left.
I can appreciate that point of view in that moment......but its about sooo much more than that...its about your clan, friends, lovers ,community ....the person you pass everyday and pretend they aren't there....... to put this in a box ...Vietnam....today .....is to not seeting the big picture. But ya, Vietnam....
Allan Clarke was a fine vocalist, one of the top of his or any generation. The song refers to the brotherhood of man. (He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother)
Oh Penny, Omg so very sorry on the loss of your precious brothers, prayers & condolences to you & your family. May their memories be a continuing blessing to you & your family .❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏😔😔😔I’m crying listening to the song & writing to you .
@@robert-ef8qv Thank you so very much Robert. I have wonderful memories and smile when I think of them. Which is everyday of course. Music was our way of connecting. They are together no doubt! Again thank You! Your kindness and thoughtfulness has made this old ladies night! 😊 😁❤
No thank you’s necessary, GOD bless your precious & beautiful brothers’s in heaven & May they rest in everlasting peace in heaven . GOD bless you Penny .❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍😔
The Hollies had a lot of great songs, and in several different styles. You should listen to "All I Need in the Air that I Breathe", which stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard it. One of those "I know where I was and what I was doing" moments.
This song always makes me cry, his voice and the harmony are so pure and It brings me back to the music I listened to in the 60"s and 70's. I miss this kind of music it was so good. The air that I breath is another one of the Hollies that gives me the goosebumps.
I've had the honour of seeing Allan Clarke sing this many times live in Hollies concerts, and he gives a stunning performance on stage. The whole theatre would give him a standing ovation. Truly one of the greatest live singers of all time in my opinion. Although he retired from the Hollies in 1999, he has recently recorded a solo album called "Resurgance" and the Hollies as a band still perform to this day, having never broken up. I have my tickets already for a concert in the UK in 2021. Although the lineup has changed over the years, both Tony Hicks on lead guitar and Bobby Elliott on drums, are still in the band and they still pack the theatres out worldwide. Brilliant group!
In 1918 at Father Flanagan‘s home for boys orphanage in Nebraska young resident Howard Loomis who had polio and wore braces had trouble walking, especially up and down the stairs. The older boys started carrying him on the stairs. One day father Flanagan asked Ruben Granger if Howard was heavy, his reply, ‘ he ain’t heavy father, he’s my brother’!
I also feel it represents all of us all over the world with what we are going through right now. We need to be there for each other and help each other out and lift each other up through all of this evil that has been thrown at us ✌🙏❤🌏🌸💮🌹🌼
I love The Hollies ❤ Remembering listening to them with my parents when I was a child. 'The Air That I Breathe' is one of my favourite songs of all time. Gets me every time ❤🧡
Never realised this was inspired by Father Flanigans Boys Town, wow Fr Flanigan is our own claim to fame here in Ballymoe, in Ireland as he is our own born and raised here before he went to America
This is one of the best songs ever written and performed. The Hollies were the group to perform it. The guy who wrote it was actually dying of cancer when he wrote it as I understand. This is a secular song exemplifying the spirit of Jesus' command to love one another. This is one my favorite songs of all time. I've yet to hear an arrangement to beat The Hollies. Peace,
This is one of my favourite songs! The Hollies are awesome, I love their vocal harmonies and the simple fact they're such good singers, not something that is common these days imho. Graham Nash was once a member of the band and that means something....thank you India.
Hi India, nice to see you again :) . . . . . This song was big the year my brother graduated from high-school. It was an all boys Catholic school and they sang this at their graduation. It made my mama cry! She was very sentimental
I saw The Hollies playing in a converted church hall near London when Graham Nash was still with them. When Nash left to join Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young The Hollies were written off but then they came back with great songs like this.
I Have a little brother who has been an alcoholic we are getting older I am 70 and I have always loved this song ! I will be there for him and others ! We need more songs like this today
I attended 13 years of Catholic School back in the mid 60s. We had folk masses the first Friday of each month. We sang this in church with the guitar, piano and harmonica. We had the church packed! Ahhhh. Good memories. Except the crazy nuns! LOL.
When all is said and done, it's a universal appeal for everyone to love one another as brothers (and sisters). Black is Beautiful was one of the 1960s themes. People began began mixing together as equals and celebrating music, life and love.
I lobe there music i have only hrared them by accident recently a week last sunday i love there music very gentle.brilliant voices and lovely music playing.
Love this song but it always brings up a lot in me. I volunteered in casualty recovery for people lost at sea, either accidentally or by their own will & I always think of the young men who went too soon. There's a lot of fraternity among men even if it's not explicitly expressed or seems like it's not there.
We need music like this even more, now, a year later. Americans are divided with no way to turn. This music points to a better future for all of our kids. We need to get back to what the hippies prescribed. As a teen when this came out, I took it as an inclusive brother. Everybody is my brother. This concept has been brutalized since the 70’s. We need it back.
This song is about a kid who had polio and when asked how would he get to anywhere, the answer came back I'll carry him,he ain't heavy. The answer came from his actual brother, wonderful!!☘
I've loved the Holies since I was a child. Bus Stop, On A Carousel, Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress, Carrie Anne, Look Through Any Window...even their covers of other folks stuff like Manfred Mann's The Mighty Quinn.
@@markbyers1651 Maybe, but it was Manfred Mann who had the hit with it which is a good thing because although Dylan CAN write, listening to his actual voice is like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard, lol.
Of course, the Hollies were one of the top four or five bands of the British Invasion, and were a great, great group. I still listen to their music all the time.
Has anyone but the Hollies got the word " Encumber" in a hit song? Lol I love it. Made me learn that word when I was 11. My favorite song for years. Might be back on top now that I hear it watching you react. Its so good for that little low key band. Good kids, never heard of bad behavior out of those guys. Every song is a hit.
Growing up in the 50's 60's 70's , these groups and their songs meant so much more then they do to people now. Because we went through the 50's and 60's Civil Rights Movement, the assassination of this worlds greatest men, the ending of one war and living through Vietnam, experiencing the heartbreak of our fathers, brothers, sons shot down in battle. The hippie movement which brought about the changing tides of the world was an experience that can never truly be understood or felt unless you were a part of it. I am so blessed to have grown up in this time as I see the world and it's music going back 10 steps to every step forward.
You are correct, "brother" refers to your fellow human being. I always get tears in my eyes when I hear this song. An interesting trivia point: In this live performance, Singer Allan Clarke makes a mistake on the bridge. The lyrics are supposed to be, "If I'm laden at all, I'm laden with sadness that everyone's heart isn't filled with the gladness of love for one another." He replaces "gladness" with "sadness" a second time. Anyway, beautiful song with a beautiful sentiment. Makes me pine for the 1960s. A contemporary song with a similar vibe is Bill Withers' "Lean on Me." Be forewarned, however that Bill Withers songs get blocked a lot.
Great choice!! During the Vietnam War, this song was about military people getting killed, and they still will not desert their "brother." No race on the Battlefield...The people on either side of you during the war, are your brothers no matter what color ~ Thanks India :)
You can see it on her face! She was into it the music! The words has touched her heart! Her eyes sees the emotion❤️ first time watching your her! Great job
A hymn for humanity. I just love this song, 76 still makes me cry when I hear it. These men were local to me. Happy memories.
The 60’s and 70’s has many songs about caring for each other, no matter who they were.
Lord have mercy, we need music to inspire this caring now.

Amen sister.
And Lord help us all. the world is a handbasket and you know where it's going.
Alan Clarke at his best
I soooo agree. 💗💗
I cry every time I hear this song. Our Vietnam Veterans, brother to brother, then add the melody...Forever Classic.
Beautiful song.....yeah...
Very Powerful song , Brothers in arms by Dire Straits has same effect for me too 🙏
Galveston by Glen Campbel was the one that made me think about the guys going to Vietnam...not knowing if they would come back and missing the ones they left.

Welcome back, India. I miss you when you’re gone. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
India, you'll love their "Long Cool Woman" "The Air That I Breathe" and "Bus Stop"
Omg yes, Bus Stop!
I sing this to my grandson when I put him to sleep. He loves this song already.
I've heard this a thousand times since it was first released and I've cried every time
Allan Clarke was a fine vocalist, one of the top of his or any generation.
The song refers to the brotherhood of man. (He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother)
Although this is my favorite from, The Hollies, "The Air That I Breathe" and "Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)" are great as well. Thank you, India!
Yes yes and yes Both great songs
@incogneto good song, too! How about in addition to, instead of in place of? 🤷♂️😊
I love Long Cool Woman but my favorite, I was named after. Didn't always like it though.
Those 3 are among the many songs that would get stuck in my head. "The Air That I Breathe" pops up often with this pandemic 🥲😊
Lost 4 brothers to cancer! This song hits me in my feels! We sang this to each other!

This song gets me every time. In times these cynical, self absorbed times where such a sentiment may seem quaint to me it is more apropos than ever.
The Hollies had a lot of great songs, and in several different styles. You should listen to "All I Need in the Air that I Breathe", which stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard it. One of those "I know where I was and what I was doing" moments.
Yes please
I love this❤️. I grew up in the 70s and always loved this one!!!

I remember this song from my childhood our music back then was about loving our neighbor and helping one another.
The Hollies did so many great songs, you will be going down a rabbit hole!
He ain't Heavy, He's My Brother was popular at funerals when I was younger.
the song brings me to tears everytime.
There's a vietnam veteran's tribute for this song that is a true tear-jerker, you should check it out India.

You must hear their song “The Air That I Breathe.” One of the most beautiful love songs ever written.
I think that is my favorite!
Timeless song. Applies to many parts of my life. Many personal memories for me.
Hollies long cool woman in a black dress is a great song. GREAT BAND that I grew up with.

Thank you India, my last Internet for the night and it lightened my spirit in these tumultuous times. Good to see you!
Love the Hollies. This is one of my favorites. Also,
look through any window.
One of my favorite all time songs. Always made me feel good!
Apart from the Beatles the Hollies are one of my favourite British bands. We had many in the 60’s but these were my fav
You have this amazing look of peace on your face as you listen to this. Love your reactions each time I watch you.
Excellent, and the drummer was outstanding!
I saw The Hollies playing in a converted church hall near London when Graham Nash was still with them. When Nash left to join Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young The Hollies were written off but then they came back with great songs like this.
One of the best, by one of the best.
This song takes me back... Dad driving us kids around and listening to this song❤
Hi India, if you want to react to more 60s songs, one of my favorite is by Dion called: Abraham, Martin & John (1968). I cry every time I hear it.
YES!!
I second Dion's Abraham, Martin, and John. Not sure I have seen anyone else react to that song. Great idea!
Prefer Marvin Gaye's version.
This song needs to become the anthem for a *new generation,* and *"We shall overcome"* should be their slogan-!!!
Never saw this live version before. A tight band. Stellar performance.
India, The song is a CLASSIC. Came out in the 1970's. Bless you. 7-23-2021
Such an amazing and beautiful song. Thank you for your reaction.
I Have a little brother who has been an alcoholic we are getting older I am 70 and I have always loved this song ! I will be there for him and others ! We need more songs like this today
Oh my gosh!!!! Love your heart!!!! The depth of this song goes beyond everything today!!! Love you for what you do!!!!!
I attended 13 years of Catholic School back in the mid 60s. We had folk masses the first Friday of each month. We sang this in church with the guitar, piano and harmonica. We had the church packed! Ahhhh. Good memories. Except the crazy nuns! LOL.
Allan Clarke, one of the 5 best voices from the greatest period of music ever
I just found the single in my records, called 'Too Young To Be Married' by The Hollies. That was a hit record in the 70s.
When all is said and done, it's a universal appeal for everyone to love one another as brothers (and sisters). Black is Beautiful was one of the 1960s themes. People began began mixing together as equals and celebrating music, life and love.
Now whites a dirty word very very sad 😢
This song always reminds me of the soldiers in war carrying their wounded brothers from danger.
His voice and the harmonies are really great! ❤
As a Boys Town Alumnus and a current employee, this song gets me in my feels every time!
I lobe there music i have only hrared them by accident recently a week last sunday i love there music very gentle.brilliant voices and lovely music playing.
A great song, a great band I've been lucky enough to have seen them many times over the years. They do a great cover of Bruce Springsteens 'Sandy'
Love this song but it always brings up a lot in me. There's a lot of fraternity among men even if it's not explicitly expressed or seems like it's not there.
Love the Hollies this song is soo moving
The Hollies are amazing! This song is just Beautiful! Tony Hicks is an guitarist.
Probably one of the most underrated groups of that time period.

Love this song. They played it at my Coworkers Funeral and wow....😢
I have always loved this song its a classic 👍
Love this song. 💃🤸 come and get it!
The air that I breathe is another of their great songs
Crying my eyes out.
Jim Croce "I Got a Name"... Hollies "The Air That I Breathe".... Barry Manilow "Mandy"..... Cat Stevens "Wild World"....
One of my favourite songs since i was a little boy way back in the early 70s.
Of course, the Hollies were one of the top four or five bands of the British Invasion, and were a great, great group. I still listen to their music all the time.
Lost a brother a while back he loved this song we would sing it together it makes me cry

A really beautiful song, almost brings me to tears. A true Gold classic.
One of many hits penned by Neil Diamond.
This is such a beautiful song..I could cry. I have selective songs I love love by caucasians
Thank you all my brothers and sister that gave the ultimate sacrifice rip
This song just takes me right back in time. Thanks for the reaction.
My son was diagnosed with scizophrenia, he can be very difficult at times, this song helps people like me hang in there, " he's not heavy he's my son"
Fellow man. How wonderful if we just saw others as our fellow man
i haven’t heard this in ages
thanks
stay safe
god bless

Love the Hollies! Gotta listen to “The Air that I Breathe” and “Long Cool Woman”
This song is widely identified with our service men in the vietnam war. And it should be. They never got their full appreciation from this country.
Another great Manchester band my home town 🇬🇧

great song great reaction thank you India we absolutely need more love and kindness now more then ever before in my lifetime ❣️❣️❣️
One of my favorite songs. So glad you checked this one out and enjoyed it.
My dad breaks down whenever he hears this song. He's a Viet Nam vet and this song reminds him of those who didn't come back.
They have many great songs, in so many styles. Do more!!🥰
You can see it on her face! She was into it the music! The words has touched her heart! Her eyes sees the emotion❤️ first time watching your her! Great job
My brother from another Mother who's passed away. Always thinking about him with this song.
I was in South Korea in 1969 in the army when this came out. What memories.... What great friends. I love this song.
This takes me back to Vietnam when we were looking out for one another. It made no difference the color of skin or nationality we were brothers.
I love this song! We had this at my brothers funeral 💙
