I just bought 12 white fountain grasses to complement my Mexican sunflowers for compost and ornamentals. Thank you for your video. The bungee cord idea was excellent.
Nice video and easy to understand. I wasn’t sure if my grass was dying or not. I now know it’s just because it’s winter and we just had our first frost day. I now know I can prune it if I want to. It’s kinda new and small so I think I’m leave it alone this fall and prune it during late winter. Thanks for the video.
It is fall in CT and I just transplanted 5 ft tall grass into my yard. Should I prune it down now before winter starts? Or wait until beginning of spring.
I do have a video on transplanting ornamental grasses. You can search through my videos on the Gardener Scott channel or try this link: ruclips.net/video/7GTJJ0kHp2Q/видео.html Thanks for asking.
My mom suggested that i put some tall ornamental grasses around the perimeter of my garden as a deer deterrent, she says the wind makes the grass move so much and it startles the deer. Do you think this could potentially work?
We tried things like that with a chain saw. First thing that happens is the chain jumps out and ruins the day. I am going to try it with a battery powered hedge trimmer. There is no chain to have come out. The only danger with a hedge trimmer is keep your hands away from those blades!
Bungee cord idea is brilliant. Will try this week.

Nice video, hedge trimmers for me. I'm lucky, though I have access to electricity, as do most folks in the Chicago suburbs.
Hedgers work the best. I’ve tried them all.

I have hand pruners, loppers, hedge trimmer, and my good old, very sharp sugar cane machete. Thanks much for all the great info!
Thank you! You did a great job! 👍🏻

It is usually better to wait until spring, but you can prune earlier if you don't want it up in winter.
This was great glad I haven't cut mine down yet. Do you have a video on transplanting the ornamental grasses?

Thank you. Does the saw brown the tips?
The tips of new growth will brown when cut by anything. Cutting the old growth before the new growth emerges reduces that.
Cool👍

My deer walk right next to the grass and eat the plants at the base. I haven't seen them startled by it.
The diameter of the grass keep expanding over the years. How do you reduce it?
Periodically, I dig up and divide the clump.
My ornamental grass is so thick and dense that my hedge trimmer binds up and tears instead of cutting. What would be best tool for my situation ?
A saw might work better for you. It can be tiring, but is effective,
Do you check first to make sure there are no nesting birds or baby bunnies before pruning?
I have learned to do that because I have discovered both over the years.
Is there anything wrong with burning 🔥 Karl Forester? I burned some Blue Fescue this spring and they didn’t come back...
If you want to get rid of it, burning works.

You have to bring the RPMs up before making contact.
Thank you! You did a great job!👍🏻
