Awesome video Schafer…..Eric just called me and told me about this video….Iam leaving this Saturday to head there…..what camera set up you using….congratulations on your bear…..probably see ya in Kalamazoo….
Thanks!! It certainly was a great time!! I have shot it a bit here and there. Still have it. It bothers my shoulder a bit when I shoot it because of how aggressive the grip is unfortunately.
@@SchaferMagnant nice, yeah I thought it was. Been listening to you guys, great show. Just a little different than hunting here in New Zealand. Hard work anywhere with a bow and arrow.
For this bear hunt I had to set ups with me. Both using the 1.25” VPA 3 blade. One set up used 175 grain heads and the other was 250 grain. I shot the bear with a 54@29 Schafer Silvertip. Arrow was around 700 grains with the 250 grain VPA 3 blade.
Those bears have all been on edge, they can smell human scent and know something isn't right. The one bear bolted out of there, did he see you in that stand? Ironically you shot the tamest one, the one that was tagged and has been around humans a lot more by it's actions. Congrats either way.
The wind swirled on the one that darted out of there. The one I shot actually wasn’t collared. It had a pipe fitting or something of that nature stuck around its neck from its early years as a cub.
Great shot and video work! I listen to the podcast, and have been wondering all week how your hunt was going. Did your dad end up getting a bear as well? Thanks for getting the video out so quick can’t wait for the hunt recap on the podcast. You better hunt for bears this September with that 5 dollar tag in Vermont . Haha
Thanks!! Appreciate that. Unfortunately my dad didn’t not get one on this trip. It was such an awesome week still though. Definitely think I might go out this September for sure lol 😂
Two things, at the end of the video it shows that it’s actually an irrigation gasket of some sort that had been stuck around it’s neck for a long time causing extreme issues to the bears overall well being. Secondly I don’t believe it’s legal to have a bear as a pet, so that thought is not one that would likely cross someone’s mind from a logical standpoint. The most likely scenario if it had been truly collared, would be that the Wildlife biologist put the collar on to track the bear and to learn more.
Don’t disagree. There was 3 bears down that night. Unfortunately where the video ended, things got pretty quick trying to get everything processed, and where it needed to be before super late in the night.
I’ve never heard of a pet bear before myself. Would be interesting if it were legal. The collar ended up being a irrigation pipe fitting that had gotten stuck on its neck. I’m sure it would have preferred dying from the severe infection that had started from the “collar” tearing into its own flesh.
@@SchaferMagnant Oops - sorry dude, my bad. I didn't watch the rest of the video to find out the facts, I just shot through when I saw the 'collar'. Keep up the good work!
Great video Schafer, well done!
Great shot! And awesome video, I really enjoyed it. Congrats!!
Thank you!!
You could tweet the battery and keep the collar for trophy mount 😆
Schafer killed the 'ole Buckethead Bear...congratulations dude!
enjoyed the video, yeah, you did that bear a service. congrats
That bear had to live such an unfortunate painful life. Super unfortunate.
Congratulations Schafer!
Awesome stuff Shafer Congratulations
Thanks!!
Wow! Cool video. Congrats buddy!
Great hunt! Just needed some good weather.
That’s crazy! What WAS on his neck after all? Great job on the shot.
We all came to the conclusion that it was some sort of pipe adapter or insert that must have been there since he was a cub.
6" irrigation pipe gasket, likely stuck his head in the end of a pipe as a curious cub & grew up with it.
Sheesh, definitely did him a favor!
Great shot ! Congrats

Nuisance bears are collared and tracked when they are relocated. Bear might have been very aggressive or destructive.
We discovered it to be a gasket of some sort from an irrigation pipe. Must have happened when it was young.
Well done sir. Congrats
Congratulations, great video bro
What broadheads are you shooting and how many pounds are you pulling

Great shot and great bear. My first trad kill was a NB bear, probably 25 years ago.

Thank you!! Shot it with my Schafer Silvertip. 54@29. 705 grain Axis 340 with a 250 grain VPA 3 blade on the front.

Congrats , wish you’d cut it off his neck on camera 😅

You shot a pet bear you clown - it had a collar on!

Its illegal to bait them here BUT totally allowed to run them to death with dogs 🙄
