      He is an awesome human being. Back in 2012 I flew over to San Diego to join Atos from Miami Florida. Being just 19 and having nobody over there and basically just being a random blue belt with few results, Andre showed up to where I was staying the first week I was there and took me out to dinner and from day one made sure I felt a part of the Atos family since he knew I didn’t have any family in California. Dude is the man. He totally didn’t have to care about the random students on his mat which was plenty as you can imagine. But he went out of his way to do things like this

    There's one thing Gordon could learn from Andre - how to face your own dark side, mental and spiritual weakness, etc. Unfortunately, just like most people, Gordon won't probably do it anytime soon, due to his current success. It feels like the greatest pleasure in his life is triggering, provoking and dominating people, which he's really good at. Add to this his passion for masculinity symbolics. Now take a little step and think what could cause such a craving of him.
    Tons of respect for Andre publicly admitting his issues and admitting that he got trapped and also behaved stupidly at times. He really seems to be a nice and kind person, who btw leaves a lasting legacy both as an athlete and a professor.

    I admire Gordon as BJJ athlete, but don't like his personality/character. I finally realised what he comes across as. He's a kid who was bullied, as a child, and now he's grown up and good at something, it's his turn to continue the bullying cycle, rather than break it, to make the world a better place. He's very petty and unable to rise above things or be the better man. I still think he's trying to find his true identity and is a still lost. Time will tell.
    That said, as a BJJ fighter it's hard to bet against him this year. I do however think that within 2 years the younger generation, Tye Rotulo, Micael Galvão etc will have his number.

      Totally agree with you. Gordon Ryan is so young and has achieved unprecedented success not just for his age, but in absolute with respect to the sport of submission grappling. I think that has kind of messed with his head and he’s probably just trying to figure it out like the rest of us. Unfortunately, he’s figuring it out in front of the world rather than in private. I think as he gets older and maturity sets in, he will become a much more emotionally squared away man. He seems like a good dude, he just looks like he has some demons.

    What is disturbing in all of this is not Gordon doing what he does for money but his followers: actual adult men enjoying bullying and harassing others on social media. I was never into social media too much but once I started following bjj athletes online I realised that in essence, when there are no direct consequences(as there are no social pressure or danger of confrontation in internet) many people enjoy hurting others. I was a kinda bully as a kid but I grew up and developed some compassion. I thought it's the same for others human beings and that's why we don't see it so much among adults. But in internet I learned that it's all just facade. So many adult people actually do find an enjoyment in hurting other people. They are just forced to behave better by society. There is a lesson in that.

      Wait, you're shocked people love drama and trash talk? Do you know who Muhammad Ali is? What about Mike Tyson? Kobe Bryant? Ali actually paid dudes in the Philippines to shoot up Frazier's hotel room to get inside his head. Ali wasn't ever the greatest athlete, but he was the greatest entertainer. These have been truisms since the dawn of sport, and if you think it's an internet phenomenon, then you haven't been paying attention. Gordon isn't giving wedgies to some kid half his size; he's jawing with other players who are equally as vocal toward Gordon. Gordon never talked real shit to Vinny, Buchecha, etc. Why? Because they don't reply all rankled and angry when he talks about beating them.

      @@jaykwonzzz No, read my comment again. That's not what I was surprised about. What I was surprised about were people writing comments "I hope you will slap some more dorks" or "break his legs, make him suffer" under his comment.
      Also your whitewashing as if Gordon just politely writes that he will beat someone and then responds to others agression is plainly funny. I get you are a fan but you don't have to be delusional at least.

    • @jaykwonzzz
      @jaykwonzzz 2 года назад

      @@viktorg8346 I can see I have to spell this out for you: Ali and the aforementioned competitors are symptomatic of sports culture. You being shocked that people, given the newly participatory element social media adds, are wanting to be involved in the drama is what I find ridiculous. Everything that is happening now has happened before, just on a much smaller scale. You think people talking shit to one another with no threat of reprisal is new? It's culturally frowned upon to smack someone in their face for verbal barbs. People have always been protected by anything from security to the threat of litigation.
      To your second point: That's precisely what Gordon does, in so many words. He claims to be better than someone, they then get lippy in retaliation, and he leverages his follower count. That's literally how nearly every back and forth has gone. Some times Gordon doesn't ever let up, such is life. Before you write back, please take the time to read for understanding, and, for the love of God, don't reply with some overly and unnecessarily verbose bullshit (ex. "whitewashing", "plainly" funny); it's unbecoming and unconvincing.

    • @viktorg8346
      @viktorg8346 2 года назад

      @@jaykwonzzz you don't read with understanding. I didn't say it started with Gordon and it's not my point. What I am saying is also not about Gordon but behaviour of people in general. I do find it disturbing that you can see adult men there enjoying prospect of smacking or attacking random people. This is exactly what I wrote. You tell me to read with understanding yet you don't read yourself.
      I will write it is funny because it is funny. It is clearly delusion on your part. Athletes like Tyson Fury write "I am better" and they do that mostly in a respectful manner. Pena does the same and you will hardly find him having so many beefs. What Gordon does is clearly aimed to provoke and offend. He actually doesn't even hide it and often in his interviews he refers to his provocations or his marketing strategy as a whole. If you deny the obvious then delusion is the only rational explanation for that.
      It's funny though that you find words as "plainly funny" as oververbose. I am not even native English speaker and I write words that I can. I guess English is difficult even for some natives.

      The only redemption for Andre would be, if he plays bjj without dirty tricks, slapping, running around, fishing for points and all that, cyborg/vagner style.
      Andre can finish with “greatness” playing clean, sub or not, win or not. Enough wins already on both sides, now them should be able to afford to do just sport for the love of it. 🙏🥋❤️

Ali hated that name, he called it his slave name and hated anyone who used it. Intentionally doing that is disrespectful to one of the greatest fighters in history.
