Plays the modern defense, doesn't castle, pushes his f pawn, opens the d file himself, puts his king in the open d file. That's suicide against Magnus. What was Shimanov ranking finally? Don’t find it in the list. 🤔

    • @jamesrawlins735

      FIDE shows Shimanov with a blitz rating of 2608, 2589 in rapid and 2593 in std (for the beginning of Jan - that probably doesn't include this match.) At his peak he had an elo of 2664 back in 2013.

    Hello chess community! I'm just passing through. I don't play chess but I've heard of Magnus. Why didn't the game continue with black king taking that white knight? I don't see how it was protected...

    • @dannysigurdson7108
      @dannysigurdson7108 15 дней назад +2

      After taking the knight there will be an exchange of pieces after which Magnus forks the king and knight, or if black decides not to take he will lose his bishop without compensation. His position is already pretty awkward anyway so either of those situations is a guaranteed loss at this level.

      Yes, my engine says that Magnus only has +1.5 with this maneuver which means that if Magnus does not do everything perfect for the next 35 moves then he could still lose. These opponents should have more confidence and push for the end game. Who cares if it is Magnus.
