It's good to have some friends that are better than you so you can learn from them/play against people who are better than you. But when there's nothing more to learn from them(usually because you lack basic skills), they become a limiting factor. Also you may get bad habits for relying too much on their playstyle. So, only play with friends to have fun with them, but play alone to improve.
thats what i saw after my 300 hours of game time, I try to learn air dribbling (more flying behind the ball without airroll) but maybe i am able to use it once in a match and 80% it doesn't help us getting a goal, maybe a pass. so i focus myself on things that i use more often during a match like half flips, better and accurate shots, going for a ball I can handle and a good defense cause the most of my tm8 are goallovers, never came back to defend so I have to do it for them. it's very stressful sometimes and on top I have to take their toxicity if I can't repair their mistakes.
If you didn’t work on shooting and recovery early on then what did you work on? Aren’t those 2 of the main, most common things to practice early? There’s not much else you could practice
As someone who has put most of my time into training highlevel mechanics (probably 70 to 80% of my 1.5ish k hours into freeplay/workshops and the rest in ones) I can honestly say this game seems to never get stale. For me to rank up its all about playing smarter and working on shooting, but every game even when i am getting mopped is still very fun. It is hard to get tilted when you are able to clip at any moment, although when you miss simple powershots because youve got 5 hours into aimtrainer vs 300 into dribble challenge it can sting a little lol. Or when you go to watch a replay and realize the guy who just beat you has terrible camera settings and rarely takes ballcam off it can be a little frustrating. But in my opinion mech takes much more time to learn so id rather have tons of hours into that so while ranking up i only really need to work on simple less demanding things like positioning and shooting (even if I dont lol) I will also say idk why but my recoveries have always been very good even tho i dont intentionally train them very often, I think I just watch too much forky and it rubbed off on me

I think rocket league should add some permanent challenges for people to grind out. Sorta like how cod has camos rocket league could have challenges for certain decals or wheels so there is some status in what ur car is or goal explosion rather than who’s spent the most money. But theyll obviously never do that because they’d lose money…
Went from gold to high plat in a few months, took a long break and then came back, grinded some and got to diamond 3. Hoping to hit champ soon but some of my opponents are crazy lol Edit: Really happy to hear about the air roll tip. I was a little annoyed with myself cuz I never could learn how to properly air roll constantly while doing aerials, but with that tip that they aren't always necessary and only really necessary for adjusting your angle, it makes me realize I'm actually sort of ahead of the game because I've only been air rolling when I need to. Interesting !!
Personally this advice is actually probably good for me, I normally do duos with my friend who has always been around 1 or 2 divisions above me, meaning I would rely on him a lot if I mess up, so I will take this advice.
Since day 1 ive used air roll right. Ring training maps and everything. I have air roll binded also but i use it mostly for recoveries and when i need to take a awkward angle shot. But i do wish i would have learned left instead of regular becuase then i would have total control both directions
i honestly did tip 6 just by my own from watching evample and seeing everything hes able to do and actually works in ranked as makes the game more fun as well.
been a 1s main since i was gold learned ARR in diamond solo qd since i was plat and spent most time learning useful mechanics and sitting now in gc2 with about 1k hours (started january 2021)
Hi Thanovic, I'm C2, and I originally got here with both DAR's and no NAR. The huge disadvantage was I didn't have a convenient powerslide button, and my recoveries sucked. I spent the last 100 hours learning NAR, and got rid of DAR-L and improved DAR-R. The only thing I really miss from not having DAR-L now is jumping off walls in certain positions.. Anyways, I agree having all options available would be ideal, but do you think trying to rebind controls after so many hours (1.4k) is worth it? Getting back to the same mech skill would take a long time. For context I have NAR + slide on LB, DAR-R on RB, jump on A, boost on X. If I were to switch, I'd use appjack's settings.. I think he has the perfect controller settings but switching to them.. man it sounds so painful haha
I started to play RL 2-3 months ago with my nephew. He’s D1-D2 so I play against a lot of plats and diamonds in duos. I’m starting to hold my own with those guys. Been practicing shooting, goal tending, and aerials which helps big time. I still have no idea on how to dribble on the ground so aerial dribbling isn’t a thought right now. That’s been pretty frustrating 😂
you shouldnt focus on aerial dribbling XD. its hard to manage the boost and its not that much better than good old ground dribbles. hook shots should be enough for plat
Hey man we’ve all been there. For me it took a year before I woke up and everything clicked so just take all the time you need. But for the record I’m Champ and still don’t understand dribbling very well but it’s because I focused on being a solid keeper and passer to set up my teammates for goals. Simply focus on whatever position makes you feel comfortable right now
@@justinreckers161 nah you dont have to keep the Ball on your car. Its a great mechanic but in 3s and 2s its not as effective as in 1s. As i said try to bounce dribble and try improving your hook shots
Only recently started watching where on the ball other players are touching. My habit is to just glaze over and see where the ball is going after the touch. But as games start to get faster at higher ranks you really have to see where they are touching the ball to get there before someone else touches. It isn't hard to do, just tiring.
I play with normal air roll on l1 and air roll right r1 but i only use that to make a half flip. Is it True you have such more control of you use both air rolls? Like left and right? So yes? When do you use air roll left or right and When normal? I hope someone can help me

Thanovic, what do you think is holding you back from making it to SSL in 1's , 2s, or 3s? If you have the right mechanical ability for it, what part of your game would you say is lacking?
i have air roll right and air roll left since day 1 (f2p), i use like 70% left, 30% right and on the moments i use right, i do it without even thinking, it feels natural, feels like air roll left would be bad at that situation so i can see why you say one should master both, they are both useful at different situations for reference, champ 2 in 3v3 and 2v2, D1 in 1v1
do you use regular air roll? thinking of just changing the bind to air roll right so i have left and right bound ( been learning air roll left still not super comfortable with it)
@@Mcspazz731 i only use normal air roll (L1, same as drift) on speed kick offs and to align the tip of the car for power shots, rarely on recoveries too, i mostly recover using air roll left and right but when i need the drift button on the recovery i'm kinda forced to use it since they are the same button, i don't like it
I disagree with the thing where everyone says you don’t need advanced mechanics to rank up. Like yes, it is possible to get to ranks like grand champ without being able to flip reset if you focus on the basics like solid touches, shooting, and recoveries. If you solely care about ranking up then to each their own, but I think taking that “shortcut” approach is going to limit you in the long run. I’ve been doing all the flashy stuff so long now, that I genuinely feel like it has made me better understand the game overall, and still put me ahead of others in my rank who can’t do as much flashy stuff either. And look at the pros. There aren’t any “up and coming” positional players. They are all borderline freestylers. Take for example Daniel, Joyo, Seikoo etc. Some are even saying positional players are phasing out in RLCS, and while I don’t necessarily agree with this, I think it’s something to keep in mind. And one last thing, for those truly looking to be great at the game, you make a name for yourself by being like squishy or evample, absolutely nuts in a way not seen before. While it’s true rocket league has no shortage of talented players these days, I think most people’s experience grinding to become the best they can is just going to be so much more fun if they can improve in a creative way, rather than just grinding out the basic stuff.
HELP PLEASE IDK WHAT TO DO ANYMORE: I CAN'T bind normal air roll i've been playing for 3 years now and i was never able to bind it...not even on the keyboard, i mean i bind but it doens't work! I use left/right air roll since i started playing. Even if i "unbind" everything and try to bind air roll in any button, IT DOES NOT WORK...i've been trying to find a solution but i never could :(
Idk if anyone needs to hear this, but you CAN do it. I went from gold 2 to champ 1 in about a season and a half, because i really wanted it. So you can too
Good advice all around but I disagree about the solo queue for 2s and 3s. It's fine if you do it in casual, because that's a good place to learn and experiment, but in an actual ranked game practicing adaptability isn't the best. RL coaches and pros also say this much. I've improved more consistently 1v1 with my friend and then playing duos with him than I ever have on my own.
To be fair it depends on your goal. If you're trying to be a pro, then networking and playing with teammates is absolutely essential. But if you're trying to be pubstar SSL. Then you're probably better off solo queing.
Idk why but when I started playing the game I just went straight through to gold silver was nothing and plat was a little bump in the road but now I'm really hard hard stuck diamond 3 I cannot get out of it I've been here for the past 4 seasons haha nothing works I feel like I need a solid tm8 or 2 cuz solo q is a nightmare you cannot go on a win streak unless you're in a tank you shlouldnt be at it's impossible
So I want you to see this... I'm using air roll left a long time, but now when im around c3-gc1 and i'm kinda mechanical player, I want to learn using air roll right too, because I get in situations where I need to use both air rolls, but when I was trying to learn air roll right it felt very weird so maybe you know how to fix this problem and give tips on how to learn the air roll right or air roll left (to others) and get more comfortable with it.
practice it on rings map, both air rolls is the same just know to flip the movement of the stick to the opposite side like for me i mainly use right with right movements so my stick is always on the left side however when i do left aerials my movements will be on the right its all about teaching your brain to flip stick movements, a lot of it comes from rings map and off the wall air dribbles
Just use air roll right. I was using air roll left all the time then when I hit gc I was like I need to learn air roll right, so I’d go into drop shot and only use air roll right, now I can use both air rolls and it makes such a difference in being able to control the ball and it just looks sick when u keep switching air rolls mid air to keep the ball under control
hello thanovic i have come across a teaching method for air roll i have notice that no one is showing that method in their videos teaching how to air roll. last night i teached my d1 friend how to air roll and how to go towards de direction wanted. he didnt have any experience before and he learned to go where ever he wants with air roll i would really like to come in touch with you to show you this awesome method cause like i said its not shown anywhere.
I wanted to ask that long ago. I loved your x hours on mechanics Maybe 100 hours on soothing than recovering can be great If u can bring a guest here and there to explain what to do and why even better😊
I don't agree for 100% soloQ, for me it's not optimal like 100% duoQ is not optimal. You need to do both to progress optimally. Because your teammates can signal you your mistakes unlike soloQ mates and that's a big difference. Of course you shouldn't soloQing with always the same mate.
Nice i have a similar history but im still in champ. Id just say that is for rank8ng up but i would kinda reather be champ with cracked mechanics freestyiling and having fun than just tryharding and getting gc. But theyll obviously never do that because they’d lose money…
Went from gold to high plat in a few months, took a long break and then came back, grinded some and got to diamond 3. Hoping to hit champ soon but some of my opponents are crazy lol
Edit: Really happy to hear about the air roll tip. Interesting !!
it's also a little inefficient in a way if you want to just draw a 4 on the softoor kick soft and theres all those empty sequencers on the
Great Video, really helps put certain parts of the game into prospective, Keep up the good content Thano 👍 👌
I'm so glad I switched the air roll in time these days. But it was tedious to get used to it!
i honestly did tip 6 just by my own from watching evample and seeing everything hes able to do and actually works in ranked as makes the game more fun as well.
I'm glad I learned directional air roll right away. I don't even have the square button air roll mapped anymore.
I completely agree with the tips on the video. I just hit champ for first time I play only solo q. It took me 131h in game.
been a 1s main since i was gold learned ARR in diamond solo qd since i was plat and spent most time learning useful mechanics and sitting now in gc2 with about 1k hours
(started january 2021)
Do u think free airroll is necessary? I wanna take it off and start learning both directionals instead?
Hi Thanovic,
I'm C2, and I originally got here with both DAR's and no NAR.
@@Mikail_199 Yeah. It's frustrating learning how to keep that ball above your car. I guess it is a gradual thing that comes with time and practice :(
Hey man we’ve all been there.
@@Mikail_199 Thank you for the advise! I greatly appreciate it :)
Im currently c2 im grinding to gc thanks for the amazing help!!
Me too but the 2s are getting frustrating so i think ill start to play some more 1s
Great video but how do you think a champ 1 or champ 2 should practice these things
what’s the difference between air roll left nd right, compared to normal air rolls?? i don’t really notice a difference
love this editing style
thanks for the vid :)
Glad you enjoyed!
I hope someone can help me
Im d1 and 3 things im practicing are flip resets, fast aerials and defense and though idc what people say stop learning cool things they are actually helping lot
Biggest tip (personnal point of view)
LOSING IS OKAY
ITS CALLED EXPERIENCE
IF U WANNA RANK UP, WARM UP FOR 30', THEN GO RANKED, 1 LOSE U KEEP GOING, 2 IN A ROW GO BACK TO CASUAL, BAD DAYS HAPPENS
I realized my notifications got cancelled, I was worried you stopped making content 😭😱 Glad you are still around, keep it up👍🏻
Thanovic, what do you think is holding you back from making it to SSL in 1's , 2s, or 3s? If you have the right mechanical ability for it, what part of your game would you say is lacking?
His region has a small player base and everyone in low ssl is a pro. So it’s extra hard for him
Who told u he has the mechanical ability to hit ssl?
i have air roll right and air roll left since day 1 (f2p), i use like 70% left, 30% right and on the moments i use right, i do it without even thinking, it feels natural, feels like air roll left would be bad at that situation
so i can see why you say one should master both, they are both useful at different situations
for reference, champ 2 in 3v3 and 2v2, D1 in 1v1
do you use regular air roll? thinking of just changing the bind to air roll right so i have left and right bound ( been learning air roll left still not super comfortable with it)
@@Mcspazz731 i only use normal air roll (L1, same as drift) on speed kick offs and to align the tip of the car for power shots, rarely on recoveries too, i mostly recover using air roll left and right but when i need the drift button on the recovery i'm kinda forced to use it since they are the same button, i don't like it
Hey Thanovic, is being hard to rank up from champ 1 to Gchamp, can you make some videos on this ? Would love to see, love the content to rank up!
Awesome man, never gets repetitive
how do you train to recover? just freeplay or casual matches?
Just hit gc1 so stoked! But yeah I’d agree with the majority of all of this lol
Agreed, your friends will hold you back if they aren’t devoted as you. My buddies don’t warm up AT ALL. No free play/training packs
WNice tutorialch version do you use to get all the setup and polyphonic softs?
After 4 years of playing only air roll, now having learnt directional air roll I can’t stop air rolling all the time x)
I'd like to use air roll left and right but I use normal I am c3 and have to many hours to learn new air roll
HELP PLEASE IDK WHAT TO DO ANYMORE:
I CAN'T bind normal air roll i've been playing for 3 years now and i was never able to bind it...not even on the keyboard, i mean i bind but it doens't work!
I use left/right air roll since i started playing. Even if i "unbind" everything and try to bind air roll in any button, IT DOES NOT WORK...i've been trying to find a solution but i never could :(
When I started I instantly tried to start learning to air dribble luckily I never got it down and just moved to shooting and recovering
I have only solo queued to c2/3. Never reaching GC. Kinda burned out as I have been here for 3 seasons now .
His editing on his videos is amazing
I went the mech route now gc1-2 and i have so much fun i would recommend it also helps you get to gc fast
Scrimming with better players (but not so much better that it's impossible) was really valuable for me.
"but thanovic us epic games players cant play workshop maps" so with that being said what do you recommend as a custom training map?
i love the Pokemon boutique music in the intro😂👌🏼👌🏼
Wait... Thanovic plays Pokemon confirmed??
I mean not focusing a lot more on mechanics still works out for you as a content creator with the 100 hours series :)
I don't have enough keybinds to put a directional airroll
Idk why but when I started playing the game I just went straight through to gold silver was nothing and plat was a little bump in the road but now I'm really hard hard stuck diamond 3 I cannot get out of it I've been here for the past 4 seasons haha nothing works I feel like I need a solid tm8 or 2 cuz solo q is a nightmare you cannot go on a win streak unless you're in a tank you shlouldnt be at it's impossible
What button do you have the air roll sets at?
@@Jekker1435 Thank you for the tips:))
Just use air roll right. I was using air roll left all the time then when I hit gc I was like I need to learn air roll right, so I’d go into drop shot and only use air roll right, now I can use both air rolls and it makes such a difference in being able to control the ball and it just looks sick when u keep switching air rolls mid air to keep the ball under control
im d3 and i play better solo queing but when i play with my champ irl friend we play well, but still lose most games, what do i do??
What’s the blue and black decal?
5:56 JESUS CHWISTH WHAT THAT NOISE IS
hello thanovic i have come across a teaching method for air roll i have notice that no one is showing that method in their videos teaching how to air roll. last night i teached my d1 friend how to air roll and how to go towards de direction wanted. he didnt have any experience before and he learned to go where ever he wants with air roll i would really like to come in touch with you to show you this awesome method cause like i said its not shown anywhere.
i have also sent you an email about it
Just hit d1 in 2s this is going to help a bunch thanks man appreciate the content
Pog vid bro! Can u pls do a vid on ceiling shots?
I love your tutorial vids! Always very motivating
Editing was great 🤝
Glad you liked it
Is it good that I already do these?
I love this hardworking thano and I watch all your streams good luck my man hope u hit ssl soon ❤️❤️
I need more thanovic clips😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I wanted to ask that long ago. I loved your x hours on mechanics
Maybe 100 hours on soothing than recovering can be great
If u can bring a guest here and there to explain what to do and why even better😊
Luv your videos man keep up the good work 😁
I never have been this early in one of you're videos you helped me a lot thx mate
im gc2 in 2s and 3s but c1 in 1s how to play it?
I have solo queued mostly my whole time playing rocket league all the way from bronze to champ
great video, thanks for the great tips!
Whats the decal called at 1:59
man the memories when you said prospect, good times.
Nice video Thanovic
I think being mechanical is wayy more fun than being smart. also more safe. rotations are much easier to learn than gamesense.
any tips while ranking down? :(
Nice i have a similar history but im still in champ. Id just say that is for rank8ng up but i would kinda reather be champ with cracked mechanics freestyiling and having fun than just tryharding and getting gc. Altho teamplay is better there... imma just keep doing and after some hour it will happen probably😂 im not in a rush
I've been Solo Q'n my ass off for the last 4 years! That's why I'm Amazing! 🎉🎉🎊
Thanovic please help is there any good players who use normal air roll
iam a ones main, i have more ones games than all the other game modes combined 600+ games in ones i have 1200 games in total , and right now iam a plat 3 in ones with d2 in peak :( 550 hours and my 2s rank is champ 1. take that how you will.
ps: ones is hard but can make for good habits like not missing open nets ;)
1:48 Can anyone tell me that decal?
Im a solo main and the best way to get goos is having fun so thats what you need to do
I hate solo q cos of awful teammates I get. I'm fine with anyone who at least PLAYS the game. But I always end up with bastards who sit afk the whole match or leave midgame or just lose connection.
editing is crazy
