2 things not on this list that scared me.
The knight section and the Verdugo fight in RE4 remake.
The knights because I had to pay extra attention to my surroundings and constantly watching my back when I could.
The Verdugo because I had to move fast and it could come out of nowhere at any time.
And both because I could NOT afford to let my guard down.
Although the sewer section and the plant labs in RE2 remake were pretty unsettling.
And I was a little on edge during the training facility in RE0 cause I had no idea what I could run into and I constantly had healing items on hand.

The boss fight with Marguerite always reminded me of Tristana Medeiros from the film REC. She has this slender look just like her. People who watched REC for sure know what I'm talking about. For me the scariest moment in the RE series is when we see Lisa Trevor for the first time in RE1 remake. I'm very immune to horror scares as I watched hundreds of horror films but the look of Lisa gave me some goosebumps.

Not really a scary thing in hindsight, but I will never forget my first run through RE2R, playing Claire's campaign, the part with Mr X while in the elevator, sitting there with the tension running high, only to hear "holy shit, Jesus Christ" from behind me as Birkin carved out the Tyrant's side, turns out my stepfather had entered the room and had thought I was watching a movie, and he really doesn't do well with horror, so while the monent itself probably scared him more than me, it certainly made me jump as well

I finished the original re2 and re3 on ps1, re2,3 and 4 remakes, just small portions of re5, revelations 1 and 2, finished re7, village and shadows of rose. so far RE7 was the most terrifying for me. I got the game in 2017 played it in the middle of the day and I was even with my gf at that time, and the beginning part still managed to scare me, from viewing the tape to the first mia attack. I thought it would be nice if I played it alone during the night time to be more immersive which I did and holy shit that first jack encounter is hands down the most terrifying moment for me. it was the epitome of survival horror, getting chassed by a murderous maniac wielding a chainsaw who clearly walks faster than you in a very narrow hallway, no video game ever made my heartbeat so fast I felt like I was going to pass out . that made me hesitant to play the game as it was scary and also frustrating. 6years later I finally finished the game only after finishing village. that game really is a masterpiece, just like the original re2 and re3.

Mr. X in RE2R is scary because his appearance is not a jumpscare, but sustain terror. The typical tactic in RE games is to clear the room out of enemies, so you can move around them at ease, but after Mr. X appears you feel constant tension. I remember it took me hell a lot of time to do clock tower, because there was only one escape route and I heard his footsteps constantly, so I was checking if he is in the room or not. It doesn't help that you can also hear him opening doors to other locations. Of course he can't enter clock tower, but you don't know it on your first playthrough.

    • @samchristian37

I thought he could enter the tower at first which had my anxiety at an all time high. RE2R is the scariest RE game because of Tyrant chasing you the whole game

during my first playthrough (literally yesterday) I didn't know, which made me afraid when Leon made the bell sound so loud. I thought he was going to walk in the room and do whatever it was that he did when he caught you (hadn't been caught up to that point; obviously he punches you) because it was so loud and I heard his footsteps and it felt like he was getting closer. Also, when he showed up in the jail, he scared the hell out of me. I was getting bit left and right trying to run without fighting the zombies. Mr. X gave me permanent PTSD with those footsteps😭

Man I love RE7. But damn that fetus monster in Village was terrifying. Not only visually, but thematically. The fact that you couldn't fight back and that it was a manifestation of the deepest fears Ethan had after learning his child was "special"; especially after everything he went through in the Baker house, this monster was probably the darkest place his mind went to. Not to mention that the whole process of pregnancy and birth can be really scary through a certain perspective. Something about the trail of the umbilical chord really freaked me out. Learning it was a hallucination all along was messed up lol.

Btw, the Ashley segment in RE4R is one of the scariest moments imo. I'm going to quickly set the scene for my scariest moment. Not only in any Resident Evil but in any video game. And maybe the sharpest startled of my life in total.
Even after playing Resident Evil 4 many many times I did not know that if you shoot the lake at the pier before you get on to it that the monster pops out and one-hit Chomps you into instant kill.
I was playing on the VR so it felt more like I was there, and things were right in my face. I also had double speed on so I can get to the game quicker on whatever run through I was doing.
So when I shot the lake just to shoot at some fish and that thing came out of the lake it came out at Double speed, I wasn't expecting it, and it look like it was coming at directly at me, not at any screen.
    It was pretty bad.

I was over here saying that Lady Dimitrescu is too big to be fitting through one of the normal doorways, and when I turned around she was right behind me walking through one of the normal sized doors. I played only the 4 most known resident evil games and these are the moments where I freaked out :
In RE2R, I had to pause the game and get my head together everytime I heard the footsteps of Mr X. Plus, all the parts were Leon has to go in the RPD basement, in the morgue, parking lot and in the ceilrooms full of zombies had me terrified, to the point that I would do this part quickly so then I could turn back asap upstairs.
In RE3R, i got chills out of the hospital part with Carlos playing hide and seek with the hunters. On addition, I got really horrified during the moment where Jill has to restart the power engines in the big ass insect nests. The sound of these creatures was really creepy.
In RE4R, obviously it was the lonely Ashley's mission that got me scared, but also the regenerador walk-through in both Leon and Ada campaigns.
In RE7, during the first micomorph appearance, my heart nearly stopped...

The atmosphere that the Re-1/REmake and Re-2/RE2R games had were kind of unbeatable....
Re-3 due to being a bit more action focused was a little less scary, but the looming dread that an unbeatable BOW is chasing you throughout is kind of terrifying.
RE3R was not scary due to the scripted scenes and really high focus on action.
RE4 and RE4R, rarely had any horror moments, it was like some sort of action adventure movie. Only regenradors were terrifying like you said.
I wont talk about 5 and 6 cause they really weren't scary.
RE7 was actually great with horror aspect while RE8 had its moments but its weren't as great as compared to RE7

I’m not gonna even lie I’m stuck on RE8. The one part where you first encounter that baby thing or whatever tf it is. The moment I heard the baby noises I quit immediately 😂
Edit: (That was about 6 months ago, I haven’t picked it back up since 😆).

Mr. X has to be the easiest one to dodge and not fuck with while you're roaming the RPD but it was a pain for me to defeat when he completely transformed, while Nemesis is the opposite. He was a pain while you were walking around Raccoon City but pretty damn easy to shoot down when he transformed completely. (At least that's what I think)

One part that scares the shit out of me, even though I KNEW when a Licker would pop out of a vent, it STILL scared the shit outta me in either RE2 or RE3 OG

Mr. X is the worst in my opinion. Most RE moments are over fast, but with Mr. X it’s constant and you don’t have time to catch your breath and relax especially on harder difficulty

A bit that always scared me was the Verdugo busting out of the vents, when you saw things from their perspective. Idk why, but the way it just cuts instantly to their viewpoint and them just chasing you at full speed. That always put me on edge so much.

Everyone always says undead baby is one of the scariest encounters in the franchise. For me, it ranks at the top for funniest. Seriously, I cant feel scared at all, those baby sounds as a big floppy meatsack wiggles its way through corridors... its just too funny for me to be scared at all

Tip for REmake, use the shotgun and aim up, blowing the heads is permanent end for zombies, you wont really want to save shotgun ammo anyway, its not good against Hunters.
speaking of Hunters, one acid round kills them, only helpful for playing as Jill but so much safer.

RE revelations was my first RE game, and any kind of jumpscare really scared me and it gave me nightmares as a kid. I was really scared of any kind of horror game. But now I’ve grown and started to play RE revelations again, but this time it doesn’t scare me as much now 😅. I even got RE3 remake for PS5 and it’s very fun to play.
