Family lore tells me I'm descended from the Glenluvet family. Never had the 18 of either, but had the 12 or 15 of both. The glenfidich, seems better on my memory. Either way I'll be trying both soon
The newest release of Glenlivet 18 here in the states is bottled at 40% instead of the previous 43%. I feel like the quality has decreased significantly while the price has only increased. Im very disappointed with this bottling of Glenlivet 18 in December 2020
Sane thing here in Canada. I paid CAN$130 for the 43%abv version about a year ago. Now it's 40%abv and CAN$185! Needless to say I won't be buying another bottle at that price and abv. There are plenty of competitors offering 46%abv plus at that price or less.
Over here, the Glenlived 18 would probably beat the Glenfiddich 18 just because the Glenlivet is bottled at 43% ABV while the Glenfiddich is bottled at 40% which is too low... I understand that the minimum ABV for a whisky in South Africa is 43% ABV, so as a result both bottles are at 43% ABV in your market.
Here in Europe Glenfiddich 18 is sold with just 40% abv the last years and Glenlivet is following this year. Not good for both whiskys and their fans here around.
When I was 15 my father and I got into an argument so I grabbed a bottle from his cabinet without even looking at what it was and got on my 4 wheeler and left, got to my friends house to discover I grabbed a glenlivet 18 not really knowing what it was but it tasted so good I ended up drinking it so fast I had alcohol poisoning lol still my favorite scotch to this day and yes my dad was super PISSED at the time but it's kinda funny now
So the glenlivet has lost, i think that is correct, but what did glenlivet do? They lowered their alcohol % down to 40%.. which makes it even worse😏... they are really trying to sell on the mass market and dont give anything about quality

Livet 18 for me hands down one of my all time favorites, easy to drink easy to introduce to others a classic!

When I first tasted Glenfiddich 18 It was winter and I said this whiskey tastes like spring, whenever you drink it, spring comes to you.
They are both wonderful. My two favorites.
Please review two Irish whiskies for us:

I love them both but I have to give the edge to Glenlivet because of nostalgia. It was the first scotch I was offered by a friend.
Glenfiddich perpetual vat 01 or glenmorangie 10 which one is best?.
I am just not a fan of Livet, but I have never had the 18. I have yet to have a bottle of 'Fiddich I didn't like.
I can't get this version of Glenfiddich. I get the small batch reserve bottled at 40%. I prefer the Glenlivet 18 over the small batch reserve.

quig have you tried the glenlivet code? that one is such a mystery to me. But expensive. Wondering if I should get it.
