I installed 6, 1-3/4 solid core interior doors in my townhouse renovation with those exact hinges. I think each hinge holds 200 lbs? Or as a pair? Beautiful job. Just wondering why you used 3 hinges? Subscribed
3 was specified for me from Sugatsune themselves. Based on the specs, 2 hinge will give you 220lb while 3 hinge will give you 275lb. The door weighed about 160lb without the white oak. I think with the white oak it would sit too close to 220lb which is why they specified 3.
Oh my gosh, thanks so much for posting this. I've been looking to install sugatsune door hinges, into an existing build. I'm guessing you milled up 2" material for those door jambs?
@@DesignCraftWorkshop Nice! Turns out the hinges I ordered were actually Simonswerk. I'm going to be installing them into (hopefully) some pine, since it's going to be painted anyway. Bad idea?
Nice hinges….👍🏻👍🏻 and door. Question though, is it easier for you to install them w/o separating frame and door hinge parts and then connecting them later w/ the set screws (or whatever ya call them😉). Just curious is all; as either way works fine… ✌🏻
Thank you! I tried it first without separating the hinge for the dry fit and I would say separating the hinges works a lot better for me. I think with two people it would even be quicker. The problem with not separating the hinges is the fit for the hinges into the jamb is pretty tight. Having half of the hinge installed you won’t deal with the friction fit.
What made you go for 3 hinges instead of 2? According to their specs, it looks like that door would have been fine with 2? I only ask bc I been going down a deep rabithole of how many I will need for my own set up lol
How much gap did you leave for the door to close. Working on a door after seeing your hidden wall slat door video and been working on it and framing out the door now. Have to reframe since my friend made the frame to large and we are debating on how tight of a fit/large of a gap the door should have from the frame
The door should fit like any standard door. There should be about 1/8 gap all around. You can give the door some more space and use the hinge to adjust. The slats should cover up the gap for the seamless look.
@@DesignCraftWorkshop Okay that's what I thought. Yeah due to the help I had we may have ended up with an extra inch on the frame so got to go back and fix that next week when I'm back in town. Looking forward to finishing it as your wall came out so well! Started filming the build process as well and oh boy how that makes everythign take like 3x longer
Awesome! Can you do a video showing using this method to replace bifold closet doors? I’m getting ready to start that project.
Those are the details that make a great project into an amazing one👏🏽
Thanks man!
Great video!
Thank you!

Glad it helped! Yes, I milled up 8/4 rough poplar down to the thicknesses you see here.

Yea you should be ok. Poplar is pretty soft like pine even though it’s a hardwood. Also most pre-hung door jambs are made with pine.

Those are some beefy hinges!
Man i love them
San mo po naorder yung hinges?
Great, any clip on routing the door?

Thank you! It's pretty heavy with all the white oak. 3 would be a safer bet and that's what Sugatsune recommended when we had our initial discussion.
Can these hinges be fit into a standard 3/4” jamb with the trimmer stud behind the jamb mortised? Or should they be installed in a 1.5” jamb?
Check my other response
How did you carve out the wood to recess your hinges inside the door? I just got these hinges but trying to figure this out. Thx!
I used a template and a router. They should include a paper template for you to use.
@@DesignCraftWorkshop I got the template. Just confused which router bit to get
@@FeelgoodThreads check out my full video. I have it in detail on the bits and how I went about it

where did you get these? Do you think they support a murphy door?
You can get them on build.com or even Amazon. I have a link in my full video. They will work if it’s under 275lb using three hinges
It looks expensive
It's not too bad for something that gives you a specific use application.
