  • EMC Synchronika II is loaded with features that you're going to want to know about.
The Synchronika 2 has been designed to help home baristas raise their coffee game by adding more than just the basic features. It is for the gearheads who value great engineering and want to know that the machine they've purchased is the best of the best. That's what ECM has always brought to the table and this time they've revisited one of the most popular machines and simply improved it a lot!
So should you wait for the Synchronika 2 to drop or get the first version while its going cheap? I guess that all depends on what are the most important features for you, but if you are like me, you have to have the best so waiting a month or two seems definitely worth it, as you'll see in the video.
Here is the link to the product page if you're keen to see where the distribution centres are near you.

I am super passionate about coffee and educating people on all aspects of this amazing drink. I love bringing the stories back from the other side of the world about how they grow and process the coffee differently on each farm, in each region, and in each country. I also love helping baristas around the world make better coffee for themselves, whether they're at home, professional, competitors or even just venturing out into the wide world of coffee.

Coffee engineer here. The lack of a "cool touch" group here is mostly due to cost and aesthetic. It's relatively inexpensive to have cool touch steam wands since it just require a plastic tube. Creating that sort of plastic insulation would be much more expensive to follow the water path in the group while still using the group's thermal mass for temperature stability. The alternative would be something like the Silvia Pro, which instead creates a barrier by putting the case around the group! Seems ECM is more interested in showing off the group design.

Italian/German coffee manifacturers have found 4€ oled screens from aliexpress :DD The fact that it doest have bluetooth and wifi proves me that they are living 10-15 years behind in progress to us.

And they refuse to move it above the grouphead so if you're using a bottomless portafilter it'll inevitably get sprayed with coffee.

Just get a WiFi outlet adapter. You can turn on and off the machine from your phone.
you can make a schedule, and all sort of stuff. Been using these for years.

I do not know why you'd buy the old version since the II is already available for the same price (at least in Europe) - unless sellers make some good discounts on their old stock. I had my eyes on the Synchronika II, but was very disappointed about how conservative the design is, so I opted to preorder the Meticulous Espresso instead, which I find far more exciting since it's integrating superior options for flow and pressure control out of the box in a design that's even more simple should require less maintenance. What ECM should really have done is to present an option to replace double boiler technology for the high level home consumer, which integrate options for automated flow/pressure/temperature control and reduce the power consumption for heating water (and group head). The new control interface is an upgrade, but I don't understand why they don't just provide a Bluetooth/WiFi interface, which could increase and simplify the control options, while keeping the design clean and allowing for app updates to keep features relevant.

I actually think CREM ONE POFILER beats both Profitec and ECM Synchronika 2 in every major category for a prosumer espresso machine. Also, why no flow control on the ECM??? You should do a comparison with CREM ONE PROFILER. thanks! I am planning on buying a CREM ONE PROFILER next.

How is the build quality compared to ECM?

just read the spec and saw the video. agree 100% plus nsf rated and 1.5 liter brew boiler and dc motor profiling. and not only does it have a knob, it has a bigger knob. guess the only letdown is not having 2 as they usually travel in pairs.

I’m pretty curious how this will compare to the Profitec Drive in Price. The electronic grouphead and better display UX, plus the lux fit and finish are nice. At the same time, the Drive still has nearly all the same features, plus a flow meter and flow control.
I might be inclined to pick up the Synchronika over the Drive if they are priced similarly.

I generally like your videos but I'm not sure why you're reviewing machines which you haven't had the chance to use for an extended period of time. Seems like a way to get more views as you're able to publish before others, but it hurts your reliability. Your video on the slayer was the same thing, high praise, no experience.

Does ECM have warranty on this product? If the answer is yes, do you know what parts are covered?

I'd certainly look at this or the Profitec Drive. Otherwise go to the stratosphere with one of the 'god' machines

I noticed a bit of an odd audio issue that’s more noticeable near the end of the video. Your voice seems to sound a bit robotic (like those bots). Not sure if it’s a problem with the video editing or audio processing, but it may be something you need to look into. Other than that, thanks for another great and informative video!

Nice review. I've been awaiting for the release of the new model but then again the current model is being discounted by around $500 in the U.S. I wonder whether it will be offered with a flow control valve or will it be an add on.
