Hey guys. We filmed this video during my friend's visit to Japan during Chinese New Year's so please ignore the Chinese New Year's greeting. ;) Hope you enjoy a brief look at Yanaka, one of the oldest and atmospheric parts of Tokyo.
Thank you we are absolutely loving the Hokkaido videos and, Hakodate etc. i think we will be including this on our next trip i seriously want to try the Crabs and scallops.
Yanaka looks like such a wonderful place to visit. I'm glad you got to go there with Lawrence. All of the food looks so delicious. The cream puffs were so gorgeous, but the soba was what really attracted me, I think! I wish I could visit Japan. I would want to visit places that are more like this. Thanks for another great video.
+TabiEats You are ALWAYS welcome here in Greece for a Special food video! I will be your guide! Have a Great weekend, best regards from Athens-Greece! Myron
Found you by chance and now I'd like to fly directly to Japan, one of my biggest dreams for more than 10 years. Thank you so much for these nice impressions!
Lawrence is great! And naughty, doesn't like fruit? LoL. Those cream puffs were awesome, fruit or no fruits. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. 😸
Thanks again for a great video! I had no idea about Yanaka, but am convinced we need to stop by here during our travels in Japan. Only 2 more weeks to go!
Hi Lawrence I love it when you visit the channel. Good to see you again. I didn't know you had a new video, will watch it and update my comment. :) So excited! Oh MAPLE donuts! I used to work in a donut shop when I was younger before I got married and I'd have to be at work at 3 a.m. and I would work until 9 a.m. every morning. I loved working there, I would work all alone and I could make any kind of donuts that I wanted to make. Of course my favorite donuts were the maple flavored donuts and I would make a lot of those, also I'd make a lot of custard filled chocolate covered donuts as well. Not only were they my favorites they would sell out every morning no matter how many of them I would make. I also got to decorate the cakes and cookies which was my favorite job of all.
+Susie LaLonde I can imagine myself making donuts and enjoying it as well! And decorating cakes and cookies sound like my kind of part-time job! Thanks so much for watching!
Oh you don't have to thank me for watching. I thoroughly enjoy it. :) Yes, I'm sure we would have made such a pair in that kitchen at the donut shop. :)
Thank you for this video on Yanaka. Got off at Sendagi station and somehow went in the wrong direction and never found the place lol! That cream puff is to die for.
It's so great you brought your friend out of the touristy shopping area to such a hidden gem of a location! This is why I love traveling, next time we will definitely venture out of Tokyo! 😊👍🏻
Hi guys. I'll be in tokyo during the 1st week of Nov and booked a place at Otsuka. Will definitely spend time there at YANAKA upon arrival! Thank you guys!
We just returned from Japan! Thanks for your video re: Yanaka. Prompted me to visit - tried to see the Nezu shrine nearby but it closed early and I couldn't find the cream puff shop! Oh well! But it was a cute street! x
+littlewazzie we look forward to welcoming you back to Japan! In the meantime, hope you enjoy our videos! By the way, what were some of the highlights of your trip?
Where to begin! Cherry blossoms was the highlight of the trip, especially beautiful at haradani-en gardens in kyoto, (not too crowded and mostly locals), donned kimonos for the true tourist experience (lol), tried moderately priced kaiseki for the first time in kyoto & omakase sushi for lunch in tokyo, first time in a ryokan in hakone, amazing tonkatsu in tokyo (had to queue forever though), returned to osaka for amazing moderately priced sushi - list goes on! Do keep up with your local travel videos! Love the food suggestions!
littlewazzie so happy to hear that! It's always a joy to hear about what others have experienced on their travels. We look forward to welcoming you back!
I bet Lawrence is a lot more colorful in real life lol!!! He sounds like my hubby, who never eats fruit! Actually today is our 26th wedding anniversity!! Those cream puffs look wonderful!!
the tea house was a lovely place, I'd love to go there myself one day! I love traveling to areas where not many tourist head off to, it really connect you to the culture and people. :) seems like you're quite the tour guide, your friend seems very pleased with the venture. lovely footage as usual!
+Sneak Chamber thanks for watching! I always recommend this place to people visiting Tokyo if they have time because it's such a difference from all the neon and crowds.
EEEEK! THAT'S SO EXCITING! When you say all the way up north...do you mean to Sapporo!? Are you taking the shinkansen? Why scared!? Going to any haunted places? ;) ;)
KeelyCanVlog yes up to Sapporo actually. Not by shinkansen. Not by express train. But the slowest local trains only! There's a ticket called Seishun 18 that lets you travel to anywhere as far as you want for a mere 2300 yen per person per day. The catch is that you can only take the local trains. So it will take us 3 days to get to Sapporo with two stops in between. One night in Akita and the other in Hakodate. I'm a bit anxious because not many sane people would do this. They would usually take the plane! lol. I think we have like a thousand transfers or something.
now this is good getting to see other parts of japan other than the main parts this is what I love about Japan so much to see and do. Keep it up guys. Maybe you can do an onsen or ryokan sometime soon?
Lawrence seems such a friendly person and his sweater is just awesome! Loved this video, we saw so many different things in a good company. Also... cream puff seems a really serious business in Japan :D
I never had heard of the Yanaka area of Tokyo before this video. I love the charm! I love the food! A strawberry cream puff almost the size of Mount Fuji will catch my attention every time! Great tour my friends! Thanks so much!
Man, this made me super hungry! We are hoping to make it to Japan very soon. Awesome vid! The cream puff looked amazing....does it just destroy Beard Papa? Whole different league?
Now that's a gorgeous part of Tokyo, it's on my list now :) btw, can you explain why they serve soba soup after the meal? I'm guessing that it has some aid in digestion? Please correct me :) I'm very interested
+Amy Chou (AmichanC) Yanaka is definitely a place you should visit on your trip. The soba soup is basically the water that the soba has been boiled in. It's supposed to be really good for the liver and yes, to aid digestion. Many Japanese like to eat soba after a night of drinking. The soba YU is supposed to help cleanse out the liver. Now, you can only get soba YU (boiled water) from good soba. The medicinal qualities come from the soba flour and with cheaper soba, you don't get much soba flour. It's mostly white flour.
Tanaka seems like a great place to visit. Thanks! By the way, I'll be in Japan this year and wondering if you know of a place where I can find imagawayaki in Tokyo. I can't seem to find a place through the Internet.
+Hiroki Noda Actually Imagawayaki is the same as Obanyaki, which you can find everywhere in Tokyo. One of my favorite is right in front of Nakano station. Take the north exit out and walk straight towards the shotengai (covered shopping arcade). It's right at the entrance on the right. Nakano is also a great place to explore. Hope this helps.
I subscribed the other day because I love your videos! I definitely enjoyed following you on your tour through Yanaka. Additionally seeing the graves were also very interesting. Some day I will visit Tokyo and I will use all of your tips (and some of those delicious snacks like the cream puff)! Thank you! (^_^)
TabiEats Yeah I know from the link I found the info on the net. When I checked for the directions it shows closed same goes on Tabelog advise the same tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A1311/A131105/13113434/
+jacqueline goretta tanoto they definitly won't have the strawberry one. However they should have an equally delicious one during that time. Don't worry. :)
