You have some of the best tutorials out there. My first song was Amazing Grace that I learned from watching your video on it. These are so easy to follow.

You taught me how to play "Amazing Grace"! Thank you! I'm still slow and clunky, but getting better everyday. This tune is much more difficult, but it's coming together ever so slowly as I continue to study your tutorial. One thing that I struggle with is "popping" the grace notes with quick precision as you demonstrate in the video. For example, my C doublings and throw on D sound somewhat struggled or slurred. Do you have any suggestions or techniques as I practice these maneuvers to help create a more concise and clear doubling and D throw? I reckon it's a matter of practice and good muscle memory? Great job BTW and thanks for making these helpful tutorials!!
I plan to buy a chanter to learn how to play Scotland The Brave and with this video I can learn when I get to buying the chanter soon. Thanks keep up the good work. ( in Scottish ) " if it's not Scottish it's crap " :-)
Tommy Light Find an instructor near you! Trust me, as someone who has been in this process of learning for the past year, you need the instructor just as much as the practice chanter!
hey i just baught a set of practice pipes and im learning all by my self its been almost a week since im playing and its turning pretty well.. but the problem is im holding the bag under my left shoulder and im placing my right hand up and my left fingers down.. totally the opposite of othet players positions.. is this okay ?? because im really comfortable and i feel my fingers really smooth in this position ..
its not okay but if u can play with right hand up then no problem its all about your comfort... but if u wanna show up your talent somewhere in any show or concert then u have to learn the proper style and also if u want to give tutorials on youtube or anywhere else.. happy piping :D
play it on 0.5x with a chanter or anything to do fingering in your hand and its perfect for beginners. just keep on practicing fingerings and it'll be clear in a week!!!
Hey I was looking through your videos and was wondering if you happened to know what you would recommend as the cheapest chanter that one should buy starting out. I am on a budget but really want to learn how to play. Thanks for putting up a video. I started watching them a few months back but saw a lack of uploads so I figured I would wait to ask until I saw another video. Thanks again, Alex
Hi, I have a new bagpipes but unfortunately I can't find a way to make my chanter make any sound. Couldn't find any solution on the net and I do not have a teacher. Do you have any idea how to fix this?
+Rick Brewer. Most of the time bagpipe on ebay are crap and you would be waisting your money. Most quality sets of pipes are made out of African Black wood and will cost around $1200-$1600 for a new set. However, there are some really good sets of pipes made out of a black plastic (usually really referred to as "poly pipes") that have great sound as well and will cost around $800-$1200 for a set. Even though I don't sell pipes, you may also want to check out my website www.bagpipemaster.com where I really go into detail talking about what to look for in a quality set of bagpipes in my video tutorials. I cover information like what type of bag, chanter, blowpipe, chanter reeds, drone reeds, and drones you should look for. Hope this helps! Josh
hey man, you are a great teacher! I really enjoyed this tutorial, now I can play Scotland the brave. Also I would like to learn this tune: watch?v=NRCUt3q_TxA&list=PLA2CdKnflGec5mU2oxyF-l3QzrKfsMX_m&index=21 I don't know where to find even notes for this, it's probably called The Book Of Stone and composed by Rob Crabtree. Absolutely the most beautiful bagpipe song I have ever heard. Maybe you would like to make a tutorial on how to play it too? I'm new to playing bapipes, I can't even read the notes yet, let alone name them from hearing, this lesson would be so awesome! Best wishes!
+Bagpipe Master Do you have any DVDs on how to play bagpipes? cause I can't stand when I'm watching and then it buffers and some times it takes for ever.
Mistakes: (1) The entire song is not on beat. (2) Down beat of some gracenotes are at the wrong place, eg A Taoluath should on beat with the first Low G, not the afterward main beat (low A). (3) Wrong movement for Throw on D (and make sure you hit the first Low G, which should be on beat) (4) The slower the tempo, the more precise everything has to be. Don't call yourself a master/instructor/teacher unless you are qualified and with confidence to do so. Great pipers around the world.
Thank you for breaking down the song like you did. I was learning in high school, and it has been 24 years since I was learning a practice chanter.

16:36 It was a G grace note but what you played at 17:03 was an E gracenote.
You keep saying “easy” . . . Me thinks you have forgotten what it was like before you got good at this!

Amazing tutorial, one quick question. What practice chanter do you use
I use an old Gibson regular length.
Bagpipe Master hey josh do I need a Gibson Poly long practice chanter? To get me started?
Make video about learn march " double f dilemma" slowly on chanter
Hi, I have a new bagpipes but unfortunately I can't find a way to make my chanter make any sound. Couldn't find any solution on the net and I do not have a teacher. Do you have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks! The reed did make a sound but it seems like it was not a beginner's one. So I replaced it with an easier one and it works just fine!
***** I had a problem like that, i actually was just blowing too hard... oops :S
Great lessons 👍
+Bagpipe Master I signed up to your newsletter but I never got an email?

are you American?
+anonamous anon As an american I can positively identify this as a fellow american accent. So.... yes.
DJGuppy321 there we go ladies and gentle men, it's officially verified, it's an American accent.
he played the easier version of it which was made by americans xD .... and i just wanted to be sure :p
THIS is the "easier" version? It took me like 2 weeks to learn it!! I need to practice more😧🙁
Charlie its a kids version for little kids (americans). idiot proof I guess you call it

True talented players dont read music on paper
Mistakes:
(1) The entire song is not on beat.
(2) Down beat of some gracenotes are at the wrong place, eg A Taoluath should on beat with the first Low G, not the afterward main beat (low A).
