  • I have a D17 Allis chalmers tractor. It doesn't come with a 3 point hitch. It comes with a Snap coupler Hitch, a hitch that was standard on older allis chalmers tractors. I couple years ago I bought a 3-point conversion hitch from oktractor.com to mount on my the AC tractor. Today I am finally getting around to making a video on how the hitch is assembled and how it is attached to the tractor .

I wasn't aware of the Allis-Chalmers D17 hitch setup on your tractor. Nice video, it's good to see these older videos and how you have improved you tractor and land. Thanks and I hope you have a nice day!

Those things weigh quite a bit to just pop it up on the loop and snapped in place! you made it look easy. Good video.

Great video, thank you for showing how this all goes together. I can't afford the new price right now, so hoping to find something used that is similar I can modify. Your explanation of the sway bar/stay was really helpful

Michael - Is the PTO on your WD accessible and useable with the OKTractor 3 pt. conversion kit? I’ve heard that some conversion kits interfere with the use of the PTO on WDs. Thank you in advance.

Excellent video. I have a series 4 d17 so mine comes with factory 3 pt but I have owned several series 1-3 and they all used either snap coupler or conversion kits and they all worked well being aftermarket items.

A word of caution, DO NOT USE THE SNAP COUPLER LATCHES TO ATATCH THE LIFT ARMS. Allis Chalmers snap couplers are designed to be used for lifting only, any unwanted rise in the implement can cause the latches to come open which can have devastating results depending on the implement used. Remove the latches and connect through the hole in the lift arms. I have several AC;s and a couple i purchased have these conversion kits on them. A great idea at the time but if you need three-point capabilities, think about a different tractor if you're going to work this tractor a lot. Your D-17 is a great tractor, but remember it has limitations, the hydraulics are all the way up or all the way down. In between they kind of stink. Good luck.

I had a conversion 3 pt hitch kit for my 1957 D-14; worked the same as yours,
    Great old tractors
As I understand if you use the tractor for tillage like plowing, your draft control works off the snap couple, so it might not work the same with a 3 pt hitch plow as it would with a snap couple plow, not sure on that as I never used a 3 pt plow with the tractor,
But if you have the snap couple equipment you are good to go,
Back in my day you could find old AC equipment most everywhere as people bought tractors with 3 pt hitch’s
Interesting old Farmall’s used two point equipment,
Guess Ferguson and ford had the patent sewed up on the three point hitch,

Oldfarmjunk101 has parts for old farm equipment. You might want to get in touch with him, when you need parts for your tractor. He has stuff for AC tractors and you might be able to pickup some old farm equipment at reasonable prices. I believe he is in Indiana anyway it is one of those upper mid western states.

Yeah, he probably has some used AC equipment as he buys a lot of equipment at auction. He lives about 60 miles northwest of Columbus, OH. He has a bunch of used farm equipment.

Just found your channel. I really enjoy your videos. My grandfather had the same tractor. Could you show some of the attachments for the snap coupler. I remember we had a 4 bottom plow, a grain drill and a back blade that where set up with the snap coupler. Thanks again and stay safe.

My uncles D15 has a 3 point setup on it. Was the snap coupler setup the standard setup on the D series tractors? That's what my grandpa's D14 had on it. He also had the 3 point attachment for it. His plow was snap couple, but his AC mower used the 3 point attachment. I remember using those bushings all the time on the different implement my uncle would use.

The bracket that limits the drawbar swing does not mount level to the drawbar since one end sits on the DB and the other end sits on the new piece that the lift arms pin to, especially if you mount the bracket to the top of the DB like it was originally. Did you put your bracket on the bottom of the drawbar, shim it to sit level, or leave it high on one end?

You can either use chains or some 1/4" x 1 1/2" or 2" flat stock to create an "X" between the uprights to hold them in place. If you look at some pics of some of the rear blades that are made for these you will see what i'm talking about.

Is the hitch on the WD45 hydraulic or gravity, when lowering? I'm looking at one of these tractors but I'd like to be able to use a post hole auger, so I'd need to hydraulic down force.

Hi , I am curious as to whether you got a 4wd tractor? And what you got ? The only ones I can think of with a decent pto are 4186 IH and 2470 case and I think they would be pretty cumbersome. I used to run my baler with a jd 4630 and that was still hard to maneuver in a small field
