❤ this set of patterns is like a gymnast, a mechanic, and a magician got together and yelled directions at the stenographer while working a Maypole. 😮😮😮😂😂😂😂
That book is really something! I wouldn’t be surprised if people who bought this book when it was new never crocheted again :} Thanks for the putting up with this book for us.
Don't worry, we are not going anywhere! We love you and your videos! I love hearing your comments, and how you talk to the pattern! I feel like if you can't do it, no one else can either. ❤❤❤❤❤ that, or they already looked at the picture. Love ya!
Agree. I'm looking to and i have my morningcoffe. Laughing. Because those pattern is no clue what to do andsee the picture. And still look like a ?mark😂😂😂😂😂
@justvintagecrochet May I ask what brand of stitch markers you use? I see you bending the plastic to open them up more. I have used that type of plastic stitch markers but they break for me all the time. I would never try to bend mind like you do! Thanks for your help 🙂
With the Julia tunisian pattern I ended up with a bullion st every second st. 3rd row: Pull up the first st, (2sts on hook) pull up the next st then ,lift up a st from same st, the row below that st, (4sts on hook), pull yarn through this st, (4sts on hook) then pull yarn through 2 of the sts on hook (3sts on hook), chain 1. Repeat to end. Pull up next st,(4stson hook ) make bullion in next st. (5sts on hook), 😊 with 12sts on your hook you get 5 bullion sts
I keep thinking that these Victorian ladies were pulling their curls out with some of these patterns, even with the picture in front of them! I am imagining the "Good griefs" and "Land sakes" coming out of them, perhaps in an uncharacteristically loud volume 😂. I love your bravery in doing these mystery patterns; and don't worry, your fans are coming back for more!
I am so glad you aren't working any more mystery crochets from this book! It is a nightmare and so hard to understand what the maker was intending. That photo just looked like a mess. How do you gain insights from photos or lithographs that may or may not resemble the end product. Hooray for you! No more stupid patterns from the stupid book! I am glad you tried them. You weren't overcome by them. You soldiered on and made the most of it until you just couldn't do it any longer. I am PROUD of you!!!❤️🧶
Back in the day many of books were not proofread for mistakes. As a former printing industry proofreader I can tell you of an experience I had. Proofreading is usually about making sure the typeset version matches the original manuscript. However you might also pick up anomalies in the original. These would then be referred back to the client for clarification. This happened with a name brand knitting pattern book. The client was surprised when I had picked up irregularities in the instructions. As a knitter myself I could read the pattern not just as a proofreader but also as a knitter.
Don't feel bad. You are doing something unique on this channel and a good number of us would never get half as far as you do, with the majority of these patterns. A suggestion for your son when taping over the names, he could either fold over the end of the tape to make a tab or put one of those plastic bread bag ties (the square ones) on the end of the tape to make a tab. That way it would be easier for you.
'work over 2 threads, not 3.' I think they mean to work into the tops of the sts, not into space between sts. There is an extra strand when you work between. ❤
I feel your frustration and I also feel sorry that you had to go through that. Sometimes while crafting I get so frustrated that I want to throw it out the window too so don't feel bad for just stopping trying. I have to myself that crafting should be fun and be a pleasure to work on so if something is so frustrating that it makes me want to cry or throw it through the window I know it is time to stop and move on. Kudos on trying and failing AND still sharing with us. Some crafters don't like to show that they can fail too and won't really post this kind of video but I personally think that it is good to show that it is fine to give up when you can't do it. If someone ever do that right, please share with the rest of us, I would love to see it! Thanks for your commitment!
I hate being beat like she does n it wouldn"t surprise me if she"s trying..but yes when i get frustated i stop n do something else before trying it again
Whew! You worked at those stitches much longer than I would have! I for one vote to burn that darned book!!! Every pattern from it was a sadistic nightmare! Looking forward to some sanity
I enjoy the 'failures'. It's entertaining, reassuring to me as a still-learning crocheter, and it's also good for learning problem-solving. I'm thinking your son is purposely picking the worst patterns to troll you and I love it.
One thing that might help: you keep not noticing “last but one” as a phrase. Second-to-last. The one before the last one. That makes these patterns even harder when a common phrase doesn’t compute! Good attempts! I’m impressed with you trying these because yeah they make not enough sense.
at 2:42. FYI. I found a tutorial for a tricot stitch in crochet. I googled "How to crochet a tricot stitch". Perhaps there is a Tunisian style tricot stitch too.
Very interesting to watch you go through it. I learned a lot on how to think through patterns instructions in different ways. Thanks for still sharing.
I inherited a bunch of metal knitting needles and crochet hooks from my grandmother, from the 60s, 70s, an 80s. I had no idea this style of hoom was for tunisian crochet! I will have to try it.
Holy cow! I agree 💯% That book...Can you imagine the poor things having to work through them back in their day. The picture of that last one was no help either. Bless you for trying!
Reminds me so much of myself trying to teach myself stitches - with FULL disclosure of name and pictures etc. You are good with your calculated guesses & tries. It’s much like doing the crossword puzzles in ink. 😃
You know we have all been in this position before. I literally threw a pattern across the desk once in total frustration. Some patterns are indecipherable! Occasionally I work a Grace Fearon doily that is so confusing that I get a headache. You are so sweet and funny. Love watching your channel. I just subscribed to your videos and I am really enjoying your vintage patterns. ❤
Just wantedto suggest try you putting a piece of clear scotch tape over the pattern names and then put the blackout tape over that. It might make it easier to remove the blackout tape without tearing the pattern name.
You did your best, same as those of us who struggled through with you, with our hooks at the ready. While I have a set of Tunisian hooks, I never really learned properly what to do with them, but I did manage to get a row of peaks on the return row of the Peak Pattern. My downfall was which stitches to raise on the following passing row. If I had more experience, I think I could have been of some use to you, and I apologize for this particular shortcoming. I'm looking forward to the 1977 pattern; at least we'll understand it (I hope).
I think that book was translated from another language by someone who doesn't speak English! It reminds me of the instructions from my last pair of earbuds where it said "to make prepared" when it meant "to power on."
I know you're not necessarily trying to be funny but I have to say I think you are hilarious 😅 I've never laughed so much watching crochet videos. You are brilliant! I get in such a mood if i don't get ot. You are really showing me up 😅😅😅
Hello there, I just found your chan & as soon as I watched one video I'm hooked. It is so interesting what you do, some times I laugh. I find your videos not just entrusting but also entertaining. I'm never going get board watching your videos. On this video you said something about the french talk or mention about Tunisian crochet. At one time Tunis was occupied by the French, that's why Morocco, Tunis & Algeria speaks Arabic & French fluently, They only got their independence from france in 1960ies. ❤T
I feel like these patterns were gathered from someone’s granny’s scrapbook that was found in a drawer. Only Granny really knew what she meant and obviously no one properly tested the patterns before publishing them. Hopefully the 1970’s publishers were a bit more scrupulous.
I tried this peak stitch. I think the confusion is that you added the chain 2 to each of your 3 successive pull-throughs. It says to chain 2 then pull 3 times. So chain chain, pull through 2, pull through 2, pull through 2. I then pulled the will through the loop 3 stitches back from my hook, and started all over again. It came out as a pretty ruffle pattern. I'll send a picture of what my 1st row ended up looking like on Instagram. 😊 I have no idea what to do for the 2nd row, however, since this is the first time I've ever tried Tunisian crochet.😂
The "last loop but 1" means not the last loop but the one before the last loop. Like "the last loop minus one." It seems common in that book. Not terms we use today for sure.
It’s great how I can tell which book it is just from the vid title ;) Kinda hoping the next pattern is from it so you can get it over with, kinda not because I think you need a break from the mental workout! (Also I’m wondering if “raise” isn’t just how they refer to working the basic stitch on the forward pass? Because sometimes they use words in ways we wouldn’t. Isn’t linguistic drift fun?)
I do understand your sick ad this book, my pations would have gone with the wind after the third or forth pattern. But I have tonamid I like seeing you try. I jst saw a hack how to rap your yarn so you have an inside out pull. It is not a failor if you try ad least. Sometime you got idears how to do something it hasnt have to bee a "product" in the end.
I have a love-hate relationship with this book. It never stays open on any of my devices. Found an affordable (shocking) hard copy that'll arrive any day. Some patterns 🤔 just no. Others, hate until the aa-haa moment. Today's patterns are definitely love- hate. That first one I ended up loving. The last, really hate. The middle one I'm going to play with some more. Hello! I think that i have understood the Julia pattern and the Peak pattern ! 🎉 those was pretty and easy once i understood. Let me know if you want to see a picture.
Hi, vintage crochet. I really enjoy your channell, your wirk, and concept. Sometimes patterns have flaws, today and yesterday. Sometimes the past instructions are easy sometimes impossible to get it, no reason to burn a book as some suggest, i mean its not full of hate, racism, maybe confusion but thats something we all try to deal with. 😮 if at first you dont succeed, try,try again. You do great Corrine. 😊😊.
I think this was said below but the first pattern is kind of a faux cable stitch pattern :) #2 is a lacey pattern #3 could probably use a 3 chain instead of a 5 in the second row. It makes a kind of faux bobble. Of the 3 I like the first the best even though the cables don't really stand out. I feel like there are probably far easier ways to get this effect other than these directions lol 😂
Is this book over yet? I've just realised how anxious I am getting watching you struggle with these! I've loved some of your efforts in the past…. Wasn't there an ink blotter thing you did in the shape of a flower? Anyway… some stuff is great… but this book is now giving me nightmares! How do you keep your sanity?!
.It seems that the French first attached the 'Tunisian', although they have also given us the popular term tricot crochet (tricot is French for knitting, appropriately reflecting Tunisian crochet's blend of the two fabrics, Uk google
3rd pattern I reading it as: You put a hdc in the 2nd ch that you skipped. Then I think it wanted you to put a 2nd hdc in the last dc you worked. So it’s like an X with 2 hdc crossed on the front is how I envisions it. Edit. That picture indont see a cross and ball. That looked like a pen sketch.
The first Pattern is like a "bubble" pattern don't overthink. You make 2 complete rows of tunesien crochet (to forward, two back) the first stitch of row 3 is a normal simple stitch.* simple stitch in the next. Then you make a simple stitch in the same stitch but of the first row. Then its like at the end of the row. (Chain one, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook (the chain and the 2nd stitch))simple stitch Into the third stitch from the 2nd row. Repeat from *
I think I just found a video for the pattern of that first stitch! I don't understand her language, but it looks like it could match the directions...only it makes sense.😅
You tried! These are just evil. Out of curiosity, with Easter approaching, I’ve been looking for a crochet egg pattern that uses #10 thread. I’ve seen them but can’t find a pattern. Any clue where I can find one?
1:21 😂😂😂 I’d never burn a book but some books belong under a table leg on an uneven floor🤣 🧡
I would add this book to my pile of " going under my lopsided Christmas tree" ...!!
❤ this set of patterns is like a gymnast, a mechanic, and a magician got together and yelled directions at the stenographer while working a Maypole. 😮😮😮😂😂😂😂
That is the beginning of a very bad joke…has to be.
Nailed it lol!
omg you got me laughing so hard thanks🤣
This explains it perfectly 😅
Best description I've heard in yonks. I love it.
That book is really something! I wouldn’t be surprised if people who bought this book when it was new never crocheted again :} Thanks for the putting up with this book for us.

Pattern aside, I just cannot get past the fact your nails are press-ons! They look SO good on you! I've actually been admiring them for quite a while.
Oh thank you!

"Rapid-fire Insecurities" is my newest band name! ❤ you, Corinne!
Hahaha 😂
Well, don’t get discouraged. It can only get better, thank goodness we can frog things we don’t like! God bless
My favorite episode! Not because of the failures, but because it means this book is gone! Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!
Lol
I think you were over thinking it. Thanks for trying I enjoy watching you crochet. It helps me realize others struggle deciphering patterns like I do.
You're a winner...I enjoy watching even if the pattern is a loser. I know I'm not alone. Thanks for keeping it real!
I am so glad you aren't working any more mystery crochets from this book! It is a nightmare and so hard to understand what the maker was intending.

Well, at least now I know to not try to buy this book on Amazon! So score, you just saved me money and a stint in the loony bin! You are awesome 🥰👍🏻
We love you even if the crochet pattern does not
You’re a better person than I am. I’d have that book burning in my yard after about 10 minutes.
THANK GOD this book is done, trust me you’re not a failure absolutely no one could figure out this weird crochet mumbo jumbo

Bdw I love listening to your voice while I crochet
at 2:42. FYI. I found a tutorial for a tricot stitch in crochet. I googled "How to crochet a tricot stitch". Perhaps there is a Tunisian style tricot stitch too.
Your will to carry on is amazing me. I would of started that first stitch and stopped . Put away patterns made a cuppa and forgot all about it. Xx
I admire you for even trying those stitches.

Hi, love your videos. Trying to help on the verbage here : doesn't "last but one" mean "the one before last" in Victorian English?
And this is the wonder of crochet. Still very enjoyable. Thank you.
I agree with you about that book...and keep on posting patterns ....I have learned a lot from your posts!
Girlie! Totally agree with you on that book being SO bizarre and confusing!! We got you!! Can’t wait for the next one! Love you bunches!!
I honestly believe you are supposed to raise the stitch like a regular Tunisian crochet. You had it right the first time I think.
I really feel for you and that book. Your patience is amazing. ❤❤
Do not blame you. Keep up the good work.🎉
I cheated, after a few minutes, I jumped too peek the final results. I agree I wouldn't add this book in my library. Blessings to you!❤
Oh my, those patterns were crazy. You have the patience of Job and these videos are great.
I’m learning so much here.
I love this program.
I was intrigued by the tunisian crochet as I've never done it before. Stopped my housework to watch you. 😁
You gave it your best shot, don't feel defeated looking forward to your next video
Just wantedto suggest try you putting a piece of clear scotch tape over the pattern names and then put the blackout tape over that.

I’m so glad u finally saw sense! That book was just gibberish from beginning to end!!!!! Can’t wait for the next pattern tho (from a better book 😂🤞🏻)
LOL good for you! No guts no glory! ❤♥💚💙💜💓💗
I think that book was translated from another language by someone who doesn't speak English! It reminds me of the instructions from my last pair of earbuds where it said "to make prepared" when it meant "to power on."
Lol, you are so cute! "I don't like this book!" Me either! ~ Stomps foot! ~
Well, 1977 will be familiar to me! Can't wait! See you soon! 💕💕💕
I know you're not necessarily trying to be funny but I have to say I think you are hilarious 😅 I've never laughed so much watching crochet videos. You are brilliant! I get in such a mood if i don't get ot. You are really showing me up 😅😅😅
You delivered a yarn baby! Lol

Hello Corrina, you gave it a good try, on these patterns. Good luck on the next pattern.
You are more patient than me, I would have burned that book already lol
No video you do is wahwahwaah! You are doing great 😄
It works into a textured stitch, you go through the lower stitch first to actually get it to the same height as original row
I saw your frustration with the Juliet pattern and tried it. I got little baubles on front that looked like front-post doubles
I feel like these patterns were gathered from someone’s granny’s scrapbook that was found in a drawer. Only Granny really knew what she meant and obviously no one properly tested the patterns before publishing them. Hopefully the 1970’s publishers were a bit more scrupulous.
When you showed the picture of the pattern, laughed out loud. How could anyone tell the pattern from the words or the picture. 😂.
When you pulled that put of your container, I think my heart dropped😕
I was watchinf this video and crocheting a scarth with tunisian hook, and I made a lot of mistakes because I automatically repeated what you did 😆
I tried this peak stitch.
Ack! I've never sent you anything before. Do you have an Instagram? How do I send you a picture? Thanks!
You too?! I ended up emailing my pictures to her. The email address is in the description box.
The "last loop but 1" means not the last loop but the one before the last loop. Like "the last loop minus one." It seems common in that book. Not terms we use today for sure.
With these instructions, it's a wonder we still crochet! 😂 I still enjoy watching these! Don't give up! 😊
It’s great how I can tell which book it is just from the vid title ;)
Kinda hoping the next pattern is from it so you can get it over with, kinda not because I think you need a break from the mental workout!
I'm going to reply to this comment to post the pics in correct order.
Thank you Corrina for doing these for/with us.
This device won't let me load pics. I'll try something else.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ You are the best!!!
It's ok , I laughed so hard when you said balls😂
lol
Hey none of us can say we had to frog due to not getting the pattern. You tried and onto the next. Wtg Corinna
Hey I give you kudos cause I can't understand any one of those patterns and at least you tried ❤ the picture and patterns are from fantasia 😅
would painters tape work better for covering the title??
Hello! I think that i have understood the Julia pattern and the Peak pattern ! 🎉 those was pretty and easy once i understood. Let me know if you want to see a picture.

Do you have anywhere we could put up pics of our attempts?
I would love to see if others' creations look anything like mine.
Love n hugs!
When I get a yarn barf that big I just go ahead and wind it into a cake with the yarn winder 😂
This book will not be bought by me!! 😂 great college try!! ❤
I figured out the pattern
Which one? I've got the first one figured out.
That book is beyond terrible. You were more patient than I would’ve been.

These patterns could not be more vague... oh I shouldn't say that, there will now be some monster-vague-pattern 😅😅
From the star you should only be going under the next stitch then the one below. Not under 2 stitches first.
I’m curious if we could find these Tunisian stitch patterns somewhere else so we could know how to do them from clear instructions.
I think I just found a video for the pattern of that first stitch! I don't understand her language, but it looks like it could match the directions...only it makes sense.😅
I think that book is a plot against crocheters. It may be a code book for spies.😅
If this book were mine, I would throw it into my fire pit and roast marshmallows over it. You're more patient than i am!
You tried! These are just evil. Out of curiosity, with Easter approaching, I’ve been looking for a crochet egg pattern that uses #10 thread. I’ve seen them but can’t find a pattern. Any clue where I can find one?
Probably, if you could ask the women of the Victorian era they would have told you, "Oh, that book's no good. You want this other one." ;)
I'm shocked the book was in good condition and not chucked into the fire by the original owner!😂
Lol
