I am glad being invited to the original commented and obviously great coverage of that race. Jo Siffert really spurs her off the grid over the hump (or jump for that matter). The colour tones when they accelerate for Hunaudieres are hair raisingly beautiful. At top speed the 917s were reported to 'safely' side move their rims within the tirebeds. And that notorious yellow Greder Vette gets a lot of attention throughout the race. I was six years old by then living in Munich. One of the things I sadly missed. Merci beaucoup 🌷:)
I had the honor, and I have tears in my eyes, when I was able to meet Ninni Vaccarella and Vic Elford at a book launch in a villa in Palermo. I am proud that I have known legends of motorsport. I had Ninni on the phone several times for hours, met him in person three times in Palermo and he told me things from his very private life that you could write a book about. I have the greatest respect for these people!!! And what would many brands be without these people who have risked their lives so often for a sandwich and maybe a little honey or jam!!!??? And a good friend recently transported the #3 Porsche 917 to an event. And I was allowed to take a seat in Georg Loos' 512. THANK YOU for this contemporary document, or rather the film!!! AND RIP TO ALL RACERS, DESIGNERS AND MANUFACTURERS who have slowly but surely made their way home to CAR HEAVEN, and TO ALL THE ALMOST FORGOTTEN THOSE WHO ARE STILL HERE. BEST HEALTH AND A BEAUTIFUL LIFE!!!🤩🤩🤩💚🤍💚🙏🙏🙏
@@marks7197 I remember and honour him. Those times are similar to the lap times nowadays, though the track has changed a lot. Now we have aero, then they had top speed.

At 5:14 those beautiful 917's coming over the hill
Beautiful!
I never knew this hidden treasure existed
Merci
I know that the track has changed but Vic Elford doing 3.24.8 is amazing.
Quick Vic 🌹:)
One of the greatest all round drivers of all time... Sadly he is rarely mentioned by today's fans.

@@paulreilly3904 The ACO rules dictate the lap times, it is pointless to compare them.
Good for Hermann, getting revenge for being pipped to victory by the brilliant Jacky Ickx the year before. Apparently he retired on the spot!
Yes, he promised his retirement to his wife before. He was 42 years old at this time and lost his Stuttgart neighbor Gerhard Mitter the year before .
Le Mans is theMotorsports Mecca
Take Porsche's first-ever win at Le Mans and be paraded before the crowd - in a dump truck.
Let's not forget Dickie Atwood.
* Attwood.
J'aurais bien voulu y être cette année là, malgré l'abondance de la pluie !
J'y étais et j'ai eu la chance de rencontrer Steve McQueen le samedi soir et de parler avec lui.
