    1:29 that ships horn has two notes! First a concert B flat (Bb) and then a low pitched concert E flat (Eb) it’s like a concert E flat major chord!

      Better idea.
      Put Mauretania’s whistle, or Normandie’s horn (not the docking whistle that was preserved: footage of her maiden voyage is the only surviving recording of the horn I know of, and it was used a fair bit!) on to one of those.

    2:20 I’m amazed the helmsman can keep the ship so straight down that canal. From this angle the ship looks so long that if the helm is just a few degrees off then the front of the ship will swing quite far. Leverage.

    you never realize it but large ships can get moving at impressive speeds for their size. on average they travel at 18-25 Knots, approximately 20 mph.

    I was on the Carnival Horizon and we were due to set out from port of Miami at 2:00. Didn't realize they blew the horn before setting to sea so I decided to snooze for a bit.....when 2:00 came around, I almost flew off my bed when the Horizons horn blew! We had our door open so the sound was extra loud 😂. Good thing it wasn't as loud as this one or I would've had a heart attack!

      It's one long and two short which is a captain's salute to the bridge operator. The bridge operator replies with one long and two short.

      I think they are loosening the hatch clamps so they can hoist the covers off. You can see the deckhands doing this on some of the smaller boats. 🔊🔉🔉

      Dual Kahlenberg S-120 Ship Horns

      @@BrianAchterberg928 Wrong. These are pneumatic diaphragm horns. Exact models I do not remember. Either Airchime/Kahlenbergs, or Kokum Sonics. Its a pair of frequency's about 110hz and 85hz.

      RES I was just going by what most people were commenting on a website as to which type and manufacturer Her horns were. The majority of people did agree that they are Kahlenberg horns and that the possible horn model was the S-120. Of course I and they could be wrong though. I’ve looked on numerous websites for the make and model but have so far come up “empty”. You know how the internet is, lots of answers but you don’t know what’s “true” and what isn’t. Thank you for the possible correction. 🙂

      @@BrianAchterberg928 many of the ships have the electric Kahlenberg piston horns, which unfortunately don't sound "good". There's a couple compilation videos of the piston horns, you can hear a distinct "vrmm" type noise from them.

      These are definitely air horns, I believe Kahlenberg KM series. Electric piston horns have a more bovine quality to them.

      A buzina é uma saudação do capitão ao operador da ponte. O primeiro chifre é o navio e o segundo chifre é a ponte. Não é necessário, mas é um costume antigo.

      Sumburgh foghorn is 149 decibels but I don't know how loud these horns are. There is a loud foghorn at the end which is loud when standing right next to it so I imagine it is similar to 149 decibels.

      Thanks!! It’s a rare type that Kockums only produced a limited number of. I believe an MKT-230/75. QE2 had one air, and also one electric piston horn on the mast that almost matches the pitch. Together they created a warbling effect and it was amazing to hear, wish I had in person.

      Both. The Duluth lift has it's own horn and the boat does as well.
