  • Juan explains why the web is in danger and how there's an open source movement focused on creating a new way of sharing knowledge is building the Interplanetary Files System (IPFS).
    The Interplanetary Files System (IPFS), an open source movement focused on creating a new way of sharing knowledge. The mission of IPFS is to increase ease of access to the information contained on the internet by creating protocols and an infrastructure where even people in the most remote areas of the globe will have the ability to connect. Juan is the Founder and CEO of Protocol Labs, a company started to support the vision of building a distributed web.

      i agree with your opinion.
      but i don't want small colonies every where in this world instead i need a one peaceful diverse nation whole around the earth. will this technology be able to solve problems to reach upto that level of unity..?
      *the only thing i am afraid of these decentralisation is about - evoking the misbehaviors in some people, which will effect our qualities of lifes. which would only be happening when the crimes are staying hidden due to these highly secure peer to peer networks.
      *is this technology free sourced..? so that everyone would be able to modify and use it as like linux under gpl-v2 to enjoy a complete level of freedom in a good manner.
      *i would also like to mention that these decentralised technology will keep our datas from being optimised. which will create so much redundancy and wastage of our natural resources. our natural resources are under a great pressure of depletion and exploitation with heavy imbalances, which is a big threat against our natural environment. which will make that as a threat to ourselves within few decades.
      thank you for your time.
      Notice : these points i mentioned is not a complete denial of such a potential innovation. these are just some point that we must consider for a better life. please comment out your opinions and support this comment to let everyone see this set of opinions to make a better a world.

I would have expected more idealism and enthusiasm from journalists.. and less ignorance.. or am I getting this wrong?

    • @alexerz
      @alexerz 4 года назад +6

      An object is not necessarily stored locally when accessed from a decentralized network, it can simply be reassembled and diplayed in your browser with only the information available online. Then, thanks to the content adressing explained in the video, you can simply send a "burn" call to delete the file from all the various machines connected to that particular network and your wepbage will be gone off the web. Still, if someone copied your wepabge on his usb key, he would be able to access it offline. And that could be problematic, but it's a problem that currently exists and IPFS does not make it worse. For example, if you own a book for a given time, let's say 1 month, you could rewrite the book manually and own your copy of it forever, independently of the library which leased it to you. And it would not be the fault of whatever entity provided you the book, only yours ;)

      Which came first--block chain or ISP's idea to repeal Net Neutrality? The chicken or the egg? Can't help but think that companies like Verizon saw how block chains like Bitcoin is going to eat their lunch one day, and they decided to cash in by repealing net neutrality. Good for them. They can also buy TV and AM Stations. We are getting web.2 and use crypto currency instead of Visa. That's why crypto is growing like crazy. Nobody can stop it--not the ISP's, not the banks, not the governments. INVEST!

    My question is this. To decentralize would I have to have my own gigabyte transfer node in my home/apartment? Then be directly attached to all apartments in my range? If so who covers expenses? Are you trying to say I don't need the isp?? Because they are the first stop for my info right? Then on toward the next. It's like this because of how it's set up. Now in your scenario of benefitting third world farmer do you expect him toget pissed at his broke as country or isp? Or do you expect him to know what he needs to fix it? Would he need to takes line have money the needed for repeaters etc. or do you expect isps to Osborn the cost of implementing such an endeavor without raising cost of service? Hey just to let you know I'm just scratching the surface here. Yes this idea works great in an corporate office but requires no computer to turn off Dothan info isn't temporarily lost right. Unless you only have central memory... I once thought this was an awesome idea in the 90s when I was 15. But.... your expecting grandma to keep her own equipment working and individuals mostly will let there shit fail instead of upgrading. Hence small fees to my provider....

    Correct me if Im wrong ; The world is going to revolve around a non-existent virtual reality (internet) that is nothing else than a network ( we made it become more than just a way to communicating) and value it to the point that it will end up being more valuable than a 'real world' thing, Is similar to having all people accept and imaginary world and making it worth more than physical and reality as a whole... I have no clue why it has come down to this but if we end up valuing non existent numbers become more important than a real bill or anything that is actually existing, even if is decentralized, it will eventually collapse or create a route where humans wont value anything else than just technology but not in a good level or as a tool but rather as a reality, we used technology and internet to make things easier to take the best of our calculations as humans to make tasks easier and to save time but now is as if we are the ones working for the internet , im afraid the future generations will grow up in a world that exist based on codes or numbers, that we become just a number or ID inside a network that we created to work for us, we are just acting as slaves towards something that at the end of the day doesnt exist... We just want it to exist.... We have change it from being an entertainment and a helper to become our everything..... Im really afraid of the future and I hope that we can manage to keep experiencing being 'alive' as humans.

      Alejandro Pv I share your worry. What really is happening is that the internet becomes more and more normative. It completely sidelines none mainstream ideas, simply by an ever present rankordering

    • @romulloqueiroz
      @romulloqueiroz 7 лет назад +6

      Alejandro Pv What's reality, if not the perception of the world through our senses? How can one say that a virtual world is less real, if we are perceiving it exactly the same way we perceive what we call the "real world"? We don't even perceive the world as it is, our experiences are filtered through our senses and perceptions of reality. If reality is information coming to our brains in forms of sounds, visions and whatever, than it doesn't matter the font. Virtual and non virtual, everything is reality.

    • @ACWOLFX
      @ACWOLFX 7 лет назад +2

      romulloqueiroz im pretty sure you realize you cant eat or be fed by data, your body relies on food, water and air to exist therefore being real, perception is one thing but reality is what is on concrete, what cannot be changed or modified even if you wanted too..... A virtual world wont compliment any realistic needs either will contribute to any things in reality unless we would all like it to.... And even when we are all to accept the new virtual 'reality' or perception of a virtual world, we will and must disconnect from it to live the life of a human and to at least fulfill our most basic and realistic needs.

      You sound like a grandfather. It's still just a tool that makes our lives better. Did you know a regular car has about 100 million lines of code. If it helps us talk to others instantaneously, and go to their places faster, maybe help us get to mars, or print food directly into our houses with a 3D printer, it's just a tool making our lives better. And saving billions of life in the process.
      It's just data. So is newspapers for that matter. Or books. Both of which were treated the way technology is being treated now by grandpas of their times. Yup. People used to think of books as a waste of time. The shouted at kids for spending too much time with them. You just cannot accept things that are new. Grandpa disorder.

      He was ill, coughing, had the flu. He did the talk anyway, and seemed passionate about his information.

      Yeah, TEDx should've invited Ajit Pai instead. He is a confident f**k and just coincidentally he will f**k everybody at the end!

    He doesn't care about what he wears, He doesn't care about what he says or how he says it, he doesn't care how boring this is, who the hell is going to join him in a revolution, . He is painful to watch and painful to listen to and and living in a very small illusory bubble, at the very least he could have put some decorations in that bubble

      Bill Ilkovski if you would've noticed he is wearing a shirt that conveys his idea of decentralization. His idea is freaking brilliant and he is obviously a very intellectual human I don't understand why you have to bash on him based on physical appearance and delivery.

      Because communication is so much more than words, concepts and ideas. A whole lot of information about how he thinks and what he knows is conveyed through tone, appearance, presence and body language.
