    You where so much on my mind lately, I looked at the older video's of your van build. I bought a Berlingo1 1/2 year ago because of your traveling with Odie and almost copied your build. Although I dare not make a hole in my roof yet🤭. I want to make some changes in the van but got the blues. Hence I always find your video's the best way to motivate me. I am a pensionado now, and a solo female traveller almost for 50 years, and the luxury of taking my small home from home is lovely.
    You'll have a great time with the sweet puppies and spring in the mountains. Smell the air of weather changing.

    As a mechanic of 35 years…when you learn something new, it opens doors to new parts of yourself…best way to explain the process 😂…you will find this out by repossessing your drain water and building an ecosystem pond …also trapping rain water can assist in the detoxification process, ciao 👍💪✌️

    Hi Marina,
    Definitely warm the engine BEFORE draining the oil. There are tools available for extracting threaded bolts, but its likely to need re-threading and an oversize bolt. It was probably over-tightened last time. A little copper ring washer should be used on the bolt, which is tightened just enough to squash the copper and seal it. I recommend you get a local garage to do all this, because the van needs to be raised on a lift to give good access.
    RE: kitchen waste 'grey' water. You could safely use it in the garden, but it may smell and attract vermin.
    Chapeau Marina! Jerry

    I used to hate writing job applications. Really really hated it. Then I got mad at myself and learned everything about it, how to make everything look good, phrases… everything. Then people came to me to help them with their applications and I had so much fun doing it.

    Marina you are absolutely correct about having a bit of knowledge about your own vehicle. Also, speaking for myself now...I am alone like you and have to figure things out sometimes. Once I do, it also relieves a great amount of stress about it, because you know what's causing the problem and now you can fix it, or have it fixed. It can be overwhelming when something goes wrong and our brains tend to over exaggerate issues automatically. This takes the fear away. I hope I made sense. Welcome back. We missed you. ♥️

    Running the engine to heat the oil (in my experience normal before an oil change) may have helped the pump get the oil out by lowering its viscosity -- sounds like the oil pan nut is stripped, not sure how that could have happened -- ? -- if you can get the nut out somehow, you may be able to re-thread the pan and find a new nut -- an annoying problem for sure

    • @WildSheGoes
      @WildSheGoes  7 месяцев назад +5

      Yes! I thought about that when I was half way in 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think the thread in the plug or hole is "unthreaded" the plan is to temove the oil tank and get the hole rethreaded and install a new plug 🚙

    • @mikeyyoyo6464
      @mikeyyoyo6464 7 месяцев назад

      There’s a slight chance you might be able to get vice grips on the sump bolt and pull on it as your unscrewing it & get it out, if it’s just the threads on the bottom of the bolt that’s stripped & the threads in the sump are ok you could be lucky & just replace the bolt? Re threading the actual sump would mean removing the whole sump as you said so there’s 2 ways of sorting that, either get it rethreaded to take the next size bolt or get a helicoil insert fitted to take an OEM bolt, whatever way it’s done it’ll probably be costly removing the sump etc but that’s what it’ll take because you don’t want metal swarf or fragments inside the sump due to the cutting of the threads, sorry for the ramble but I’m a rambling man lol, you can always hammer a wooden peg in it or plug it with clay lol 😝

    • @mikeyyoyo6464
      @mikeyyoyo6464 7 месяцев назад

      @eah8101 the sump bolts been over tightened that’s why it’s stripped I’m surprised it’s not been leaking oil, people are ham fisted sometimes & over do things that don’t need to be tightened like lug nuts etc, that’s a tin sump( we call them sump pans), some cars have alloy sumps and they fracture if they’re over tightened leading to whole sump replacement or refurbishment, proper torque settings are the way to go & you don’t even need a manual these days you can just google them 👍

    • @eah8101
      @eah8101 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@mikeyyoyo6464 Assuming it's stripped, yes that (overdoing it, i.e. too many turns when putting the oil pan plug back in) is probably the most likely explanation for how it happened -- normally you just need to snug it up, that's enough -- also the engine really should be run for a few minutes first, this helps mobilize a lot of the dirt so it flows out with the oil

    • @mikeyyoyo6464
      @mikeyyoyo6464 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@eah8101 definitely! I always run my engine for at least 5 minutes before draining the oil it’s a well educated bolt removal to save getting scalded lol I’m old school & don’t wear gloves, also I change my oil every year when my road test is due regardless of what anyone says about mileage intervals etc, it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind, maintenance is key & it’s my property so why should I neglect it, I’m an old nuts & bolts guy I just love a sweet sounding engine 😬👍

    Would it help to dig an inspection pit to make it easier to get under your van ? The danger would be the sides collapsing so just a shallow one 1ft deep with 45° sides and as wide as possible, so you have a little more room to move. Drainage to stop it becoming a pond. Lay a big sheet of plastic in it when you need to use it to make it easy to get in and wiggle around.
    Good idea on the water filtration 👍

    Your bird bath is adorable as is the colander. Can’t wait to see them finished.
    Regarding the grey water treatment plan, look into building a little wetland ecosystem to cleanse the water. I read a book years ago about a couple in Texas (I think) who built a little wetlands and pond to treat their grey water system and it apparently worked brilliantly. Even the local ducks approved of the water in the pond after it filtered through the wetlands. I believe they used cattails and some other wetland plants. I wish I could remember the book.

    Congratulations to Zuka! 🤗 His cheerful goofy ways will be missed here, too!
    🤗² Glad to see you only have a minor water issue there, when seeing the amount of rain that hit northern Italy, I got a little worried for you.
    With the oil it might have been helpful to let the engine run a bit to warm it up. On a day as cold as it obviously was, the oil must have been thick and viscous like honey! It sounds like you should get prepared to pay a new sump for the little van (Febi-Bilstein seem to make them for a reasonable price, I bet you will also have a good chance of finding one in a scrapyard). It's very unusual to not be able to get the screw out and still have no oil leak. I think there may be a threaded insert in the sump that came lose. Taking it off and trying to drill out the old screw will be the first thing to attempt. Maybe the original part can be spared. A new plug would cost next to nothing. Hopefully that will do the trick! As the sump is steel sheet and a potential threaded insert would be, too, a spot of weld may help to keep it in place and working. But that's a bridge to cross when you get there. ☺
    Oh, and I have no actual knowledge of what plants will be good for breaking down any substances in waste water ponds, I just learnt that in northern Germany, they had reeds growing around their sewage ponds which apparently even neutralised the smell of poop. That may be a starting point for researching the matter.
    Anyhoo: Glad to hear from you again! 🤩🤗

    Hi Marina, I like that you take the trouble to learn how to do the maintenance on your vehicles. A suggestion. Doing a job the first time is always the hardest. When you do it a second time it is much easier. Third time... easy like a walk in the park. So why not continue to do the routine maintenance on the car and bike? The longer you keep a vehicle, the easier it gets. And if you do it yourself you know it is done well. Also, maybe the car/bike feels the love and responds better!

    Just getting caught up, I love your pottery, the berry bowl is going to be so pretty and I bet you'll use it lots in summer! I look forward to 'meeting' your new fosters, I hope you're settling in well to puppy life, I bet they're keeping you busy! Good luck sorting out the leak, I hope it's not too complicated or expensive to fix.

    I love the gift you’re making for your pregnant friend. I’m not gonna say what it is.
    I have done pottery for a long time now. Your handpieces are beautiful. Give yourself time on the wheel, you will either feel it or you won’t. That’s what one of my teachers told me. I was lucky enough to feel it. He said have fun with your clay. I really enjoyed this video very much and I look forward to watching your other videos. I will probably find out where you live as I keep watching. Thank you for letting us peek into your world. Kathy.

    Good Evening Marina. Long time no see! Hope you had a wonderful festive time and a Great New Year...Apart from water leaks and dreaded oil changes!! Your pottery works look fantastic, can't wait to see the finished product. Some baby is going to be very clucking happy with their new toy...looks brilliant. Roll on the spring to see the fruits of your labour bear its fruit or petals should I say! Until next time, health@happiness to you.

Thank you for sharing snippets of your life with us, its very good to see you 🙂I'm always amazed by your ability to come up with creative projects and always wanted to learn how to make pottery myself, maybe that's my sign now😀 Have fun with the two forster puppies, I'm very excited to see them in the next vid (and the finished ceramic pieces). ❤

    Thank you Marina, I really needed that video. Glad to see you're doing well. Glad to hear your fostering 2 puppies. I lost my 17 yr old Golden Retriever, Rusty, in the fall. It broke my heart. Ive told myself I'll never get another dog, he was a big part of our family for all those years, but you never know. Loved your video! ❤❤

    Bord bowl looks awesome! Can't wait to see it finished.
    For your Sump Plug (oil drain screw) you need to find a garage that can do a "Helicoil" repair on it. You'll find a video showing how it's done. If that doesn't work, ie you cant get the old one out, you can either get the sump plug fully welded and continue to do your oil changes through the top, or get the sump pan replaced. Hope that helps 😊

      Thank you thank you! I was thinking of removing the old oil tank and see what can be done but it might just be worth putting a new one due to rust

    • @nv400adventurer13
      @nv400adventurer13 7 месяцев назад

      @@WildSheGoesif it has lots of rust on it then you are probably best replacing it. It's usually not a difficult job. They're held in place will small bolts and so long as there is no vehicle structure underneath it to get in the way. You need to drop them down a bit to clear the pipe inside that picks up the oil to cycle it through the engine. Sometimes they are stuck on too with silicon and need a razor blade run round them to split that but, you'll be able to see if there is silicon in the joint. Otherwise they have a rubber/paper/Cork gasket to seal it to the engine.
      I'm sure you'll manage to change it 😊

    After my last comment I got to wondering why there was no oil dripping from the drain plug. A threaded bolt would leak. I think the grommet into which the bolt fits must be like a rivet with a threaded centre hole. It is pressed into the sump after the sump has been pressed into shape. This would mean that severely over tightening the drain bolt might force the grommet to twist in the sump. But it might still be a tight-enough fit to stop oil leaking. This all means that it should be possible to drill out the grommet without enlarging its hole in the sump. With the sump off the vehicle, a new grommet could be inserted and hey presto! This could be the cheapest option. Of course, even simpler would be to simply fit a new drain grommet alongside the faulty one! I could be completely wrong about all this, in which case your mechanic will give you a funny look😂 Still, I hope this helps your understanding. It may be that a whole new sump (or secondhand from a scrap yard) is the easiest route. Jerry
