You don’t need plates to stop small calibers, level 3A plus soft armor will stop everything up to and including a 240 grain .44 Magnum round. In comparison a standard 9mm weighs between 115 - 147 grains. If that was real it was a 9mm, you only need plates for rifle calibers. Unless you’re getting smacked with a .50 AE or .454 round. But those are extremely uncommon pistol calibers to come across in 99% of shootings. The higher the velocity, the more penetration. 9mm Pistol rounds do not create enough muzzle energy and velocity to pass through a level 3A soft armor vest. That’s what cops wear when they approach your vehicle. (Fun fact: if it’s a 3A plus, the added protection of the plus includes the best being stab proof, slash proof, spike proof, and meant to reduce blunt force impact, like getting hit with a baseball bat or something. It’s thin and can easily fit it under a regular shirt.
