Alaska airlines have average sized seats in America. Frontier, spirit, and other ultra low cost carriers have even smaller seats where the seat size is 2 inches (5cm) smaller than Alaska.

on my way to japan i flew on a 787 pretty nice isle seat but had to sit sideways due to being 187cm and the seat in front of me was pain but on the way back i had a window and no one was next to me so nice being sideways without bothering someone

Alaska is a domestic airline, who's fleet consists of nearly solely narrow body aircraft and since domestic carriers have a lot of internal competition, as it is far easier to setup a domestic rather than international carrier due to international regulations, they have to squeeze profits anyway they can. This often means the use of smaller aircraft and packing as many people in as possible, in order to justify the costs for fuel, maintenance and terminal fees, its part of reason why low cost carriers are dying and/or having to offer services akin to other airlines in order to stay afloat, which in turn is reflected in the ticket costs rising.

It do be serious when the small lady complains about your seat space being small. I could feel the knee pain from the guy on the side just by watching the two images. Both have small seating space, both had their knees on the front seat.
I had the same experience on Swiss short haul flights. In the older plane my knees had about 1cm distance to the front seat whereas in the newer plane they touch the front seat.
I’m 5’11” with thankfully short legs (30” inseam). Some airlines I’m fine with the normal sized seats but with most legacy carriers I have to get seats with extra legroom. I basically will never be able to use a low cost carrier like spirit.
I am also 5'1" with short legs. And flying coach or whatever they call it these days sucks. That said Alaska is a great airline in my experience. My last Alaska flight I had room to sit cross legged and curl up in my chair. It's unfortunate Shiina had this experience. I'm the same size and I can pack in tight. If she wasn't comfy, I wouldn't be either. And that has to be horrible for normal height people.

Considering that younger people ferquent planes more 8due to works requiring them to fly more often as they are preffeded for longer distance work over older workers) the average rises even more. So any airline offering seats someone at 6'2 (around 188cm) can not sit in confortably is building their seats in an inhumane way. Because the space needs to go for the highest value not the lowest. Unfortunatley most transport is designed around the average or the lower end if there is a range. Because that number is usually higher once you clean it up a bit, ignoring the fact taht a 5'9 person can sit in a 6'2 persons seat no problem but not the other way around.
Eyy, I'm 5"7 as well. Perfectly average height actually. I like it. Finding clothes of your size is easy. Almost all equipment is designed with you in mind. Tall enough to carry stuff. Short enough to fit in places. Good times.
