  • Travel Vlog about my vacation in the philippines. This episode is Coron, Scuba Diving mecca for Wreck diving. But there is also more to travel & explore in this beautiful area..
Coron is another of the philippines amazing places! it's huge limestone cliffs are like the walls of a fortress towering out of the sea
And just like a fortress the rocks on top are sharp like daggers!
There are some fantastic beaches surrounding this island. And some very interesting freshwater lakes on the interior.
But by far the biggest and best reason to visit Coron is the fantastic shipwrecks you can scuba dive.
Underneath the waves lies arguably the number one place in the world to Scuba dive shipwrecks! This is what I’m here to see!
Sitting at the bottom of the sea are not one not 2 but 11 absolutely huge world war 2 ship wrecks.
This is an eerie place. these ships have been here for over 70 years.
Countless Japanese sailors lost their lives when they were bombed by the americans at the end of the war
Its dark, cramped and incfredbibly scary. It's not for the faint hearted !
Massive gaping holes in the ships are the scars left from torpedos and bombs.
Most of the wrecks are at the perfect depth for Recreational Scuba Diving - And no other special training is required.
If you want to penetrate these wrecks then its possible to do some more training and you could seriously spend days exploring each individual wreck. They are massive. some over 120meter long.
Its best to avoid diving at new moon or full moon. As I discovered the visibility is not that good at this time. But i think this adds to the mysterious and quite scary atmosphere which surrounds the ghostly shapes of the shipwrecks.
But its not all doom and gloom! The tops of the wrecks are teeming with life. Coral gardens scatter across the decks with a whole variety of fishes.
On top of the wrecks are gardens of coral between 5 and 10 meters - which makes for an interesting safety stop after penetrating the wrecks.
It is also possible to snorkel some of the wrecks. but most are too deep to safely snorkel- your guides will take you to the correct places.
There are also some reefs and shoals to dive in the area but i did not find these to be that interesting - and like most of the Philippines it has been massively overfished.
One thing which is very interesting, is one of the “freshwater” lakes on the main island of Coron. Its a bit of an adventurous hike with the equipment but once you are there too will experience a strange phenomenon in the water. at about 15 meters there is a mix of salt and freshwater, creating a layer between the different liquids. Impossible to capture on camera but well worth experiencing.
So thats enough diving for the day, now its time to head back to the town..
The small town of Coron is very quiet especially at night, but there are some nice restaurants and a market to explore. Don’t expect wild parties and nightlife here. Most of your energy should have been burned during the days activities!
The next stop for me is a budget liveaboard dive trip to Apo Reef! Be sure to watch the next video or visit my blog for more information

Thank you for this amazing video! This seems to be the only video about the wrecks which aren't 1 minute long haha 😂
But I am wondering how much the scuba diving tour cost? Or was it all your own equipment?

Also, do you think it is possible to do a couple of hours ship-diving and then go to the fresh/saltwater lakes in the same day?
