You do know all of this is fake right? They were doing a demonstration of what could be done but no one has done it yet. I like how this dude talks about how he did it but doesn't even show it working in real time.
So basically this video does not even prove you re-created their app it just shows you saying you did and making people more worried than they should. you have no expectation of privacy in public and if you post anything online that is also a public space/ public record. There is nothing wrong with walking around with glasses and knowing whom you can get information on. it's what you do with it that makes it evil or not.
@@nyedisiamit’s been a month, but there are two arguments. Moral and legal. Legally speaking. There is a very legitimate application of this hack (or a version of it) which I wish that someone would make available. I know people with low-vision who are using the Meta Smart Glasses to help them by describing scenes, reading menus, etc. People with macular degeneration lose their central vision and often have difficulty recognizing their friends which can be quite embarrassing. Imagine standing in a familiar place, knowing that someone you care about is nearby, yet feeling a sense of uncertainty as you try to piece together the blurry shapes and vague outlines in front of you. You want to greet them warmly, but instead, you're left doubting yourself. The fear of mistaking someone else for your friend-or worse, not recognizing them at all-creates anxiety and shame. That person could interpret your hesitation as indifference, making the situation even more isolating. It would be wonderful if the Meta Smart Glasses could identify persons in their field of view whose pictures are in the wearer's contacts.
I may try to offer something similar to what you describe. I work for Vorail, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that serves the low vision and blind community through an iOS app. a number of our users have purchased the meta glasses and loving them. my glasses are scheduled to arrive tomorrow, then I'll start exploring what can be developed without a meta glasses SDK. the version of facial recognition I'm interested in is for people we already know. I hear on the Vorail feed people ask, ~'what do you do when someone you know approaches you, starts talking, but without saying who they are, and you do not recognize their voice?'. would be nice if the glass could tell me based on my contacts, who is it that is talking with me.
So I got a pair of these for both my daily prescription glasses, but also as a fun project on this very hack. I am however, worried that once I do go through the process, I won't be able to use them for their originally intended purpose, or possibly not get updates after it's been tampered with. Have you lost any functionality or are you aware of any issue flashing this back to original software/firmware? Not sure I want to ruin them for a fun project after spending over a grand on them.
@nyedisiam where is the link that you said you would post for the site that we can remove our personal info? Also is the whitepaper you mentioned available for viewing?
Hi there, I bought the Meta Smartglasses hoping that they would help me as a visually impaired person. They can do things like describe stuff. I can also get visual help from friends and family when I need it through WhatsApp or Facebook messenger. However, my prescription lenses won't fit in there. They only support prescriptions up to +4. I really need to modify my glasses so that I can fit my prescription in them otherwise they're kind of useless because I can't really see when I'm wearing them. Do you know if it's possible to maybe hack them in such a way that I could fit thicker lenses?
I do not have the answer to your question, but if you have ideas on what you would like the glasses to do specifically to benefit low vision and blind (and that is not already being done by meta), I'm interested to hear them. I'm with Vorail, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, a number of our users purchased the meta glasses, love them, and we are looking into developing new social services based on the glasses.
You have one piece (that I know of) information that is clearly wrong. You cannot cover the white in order to film unawares. The glasses will tell you that the privacy light is covered and it won’t film. If you have started the recording, then you can cover the light. But you cannot start the recording with the light covered. In settings, you can brighten and dim the light, but it’s always there.
The video mentions Meta videos are taken in 1min shots each time, but I heard someone else claim you can record up to 5min now with later updates, as an option...is this true? The video also mentions you can tape or use black nail polish over the light and hide recording, but this is not true. It prevents you recording if that is done. There are workaround out there, but it's not as easy as this video makes it sound. (look it up).
@@a914freak Makes sense, but you can always stop a recording. It would still be a nice option if someone just wants to do say a larger 15-20min recording and drain the battery at any given moment.
I don't think you can cover the light on those glasses. I'm pretty sure there is a sensor in there that checks lighting conditions and if it's covered it won't sart recording.

I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the Facebook meta api to function in developper mode. Did you need to push the app the live production to be able to get the api to work?
