I personally don't think Ciel was screaming and crying inside when he hugged Sebastian. Hugging a teacher wasn't necessary for the act. Ciel lost his parents, his brother, he is repressing his emotions a lot and I feel like deep inside he's desperate for affection. So desperate so he would even seek comfort in Sebastian sometimes. (He also hid behind Sebastian on the Campania when Viscount Druitt appeared.) P.S. I would definitely be in the violet house! 💜 Sorry for the long comment.

In book of circus at the end, when sebastian is holding him up like a little kid , ciel does hug his shoulders and hides his face in his neck like a scared or tired child while he orders sebastian to burn everything. So i agree with you.

i think that “P4” is in reference to the “F4” which is the group of boys from Boys Over Flowers! It had a wildly popular kdrama adaptation in 2009

by far my favorite arc in the manga; the unseriousness of it all is so great but it kicks off the absolute chaos that’s revealed in the future…. the mystery is compelling and every story beat is satisfying and the fact that it’s all in a school setting is just so funny and a breath of fresh air for the series
The part where Ciel confronts Maurice brings me back to when my mom confronted my bully in fourth grade and asked him why he was picking on me I was very sick kid in and out of hospital for most of my life and she said to him in front of the whole 4 year group and she said I know that he had a crush on me and his face went red and everyone was laughing at him I didn’t see him after grade 4 until grade seven even to this day I will never get a answer to it even as a 22 year old adult I still have medical issues I to deal with and yet I am still here I wasn’t even meant to survive birth but here I am still here at the age of 22 your sense of humour really sometimes helps me when I am not having a good day

This is my favorite arc of black butler. It's nice seeing Ciel in an environment such as school. The danger might not be the same as he is used to, but the social danger is very real. Honestly I like how we are able to see Ciel showcase his brilliance as a strategist and a leader to his house during the game. It was so cool seeing that play out and It was really goofy the way Yana added so many elements of comedy to it. This is also really random but I feel like I saw somewhere in BB that The undertaker was at least 500 years old ? If I'm wrong please correct me but I believe it was during the green witch arc where Othello was talking about their time with undertaker ? This is very vague in my memory so I might just be making stuff up but that just made me think of the possibility that the undertaker might be related to the Phantomhives but way down the lineage rather than his grandparents (maybe???) idk, haha. Either way, I also think that the undertaker is trying to save ciel from his cruel fate and essentially, stopping the Phantomhive 'curse', that has ruined the family for generations now, this including his own family when he was alive.

I don't remember if we get an actual estimate of Undertaker's age, but he's always felt very ancient to me. Like significantly older than all the other reapers, or having been a reaper the longest. But one point of interest in the grandpa Undertaker theory is when seeing his family tree in the green witch arc, the dates for Ciel's grandparents are obscured, and people have taken that as a hint that his grandfather's dates may be off. I think most people believing that Undertaker is his grandfather do so with assumption that Undertaker was already a reaper when getting involved with the Phantomhive family. But it could be an interesting twist that he's related farther down the line, when he was human.
Because this is not one of my most favourite arcs I dont read it often. This video was a wonderful refresher especially with S4 coming out soon.
SO, im OBSESSED with Sebastian and his characterisation both human-like and demon-like. I thought that last chapter of the arc, when he told Undertaker 'you underestimate me' that what he was seeing was basically a weird vision/trauma. Something ridden with anxiety where Undertaker would grab Ciel much like he did in BoA. And what was playing out was that vision as the tea cup fell so Sebastian dropped the order and went to Ciel's side.
And in relation to that when he turns and tells Ciel that he wont be robbed of his soul (AAAAAAHHHH ITS SO CHILLING IN A GOOD WAY) Ciel looks up at him with an expression I can only read as 'oh shit, ive got this demon on a spider's thread of a leash'. He recognised he has no real control or authority over Sebastian.
Anywho the Green Witch Arc is my FAVOURITE! Im over here shaking with excitement cause we get to see a) one of the scariest (and best) full-page panel of Sebastian being unsettling and b) him just being a boss and inhaling lethal gases. Thank you for this!
I'm very excited to reread the Green Witch arc! That's the arc that was publishing when I got caught up on the manga, and I haven't reread it at all, so I'm very hype to experience again all together!

I can tell that people are going to get confused about the 'public school' business so I'll explain it to the best of my abilities!
In the UK, until very recently (likely through people consuming more American content), schools were commonly denoted as 'public' or 'state'.
They were given this name based on who was paying for the tuitions of the attending children.
'Public' school's tuitions were payed for by members of the public (usually a family member) and are closest to the American private school. They are not actually really available to the public, you have to be pretty wealthy or some sort of child prodigy to go to these places.
'State' schools, on the other hand, are institutions where the child's tuition is payed for by the State (Government) and are much more similar to the American public school system. A subsector of the 'State' school is the 'Grammar' school, these are schools that are more similar to private schools in looks, traditions and education but are accessible to the public as long as the child passes the academic tests and requirements that the school enforces.
TL;DR, The 'Public School Arc' doesn't follow a public school as Americans know it but rather a wealthy private school that is called a public school as the State doesn’t fund the tuitions of the pupils, but rather members of the (elite) public.

I had a history of attending drama club as a child and was good at drawing, but I am also dis well academically... so otd probably depend (personally I wouldnt mind being one of art kids just because Violet is my favourite among P4s). I can't wait for anime and how they handle animation there are so many scenes I am looking forward to

I honestly just wanted to have a better understanding of the arcs I haven't gotten to see yet- and while I am making an effort to read through the manga, I have a short attention span so it's little by little- and yet at the same time I want to information right then and there- but then reading through the wiki is again- tedious. I'm so glad you're putting in so much effort to sum up the arcs in such detail 😊 After getting back into my Black Butler obsession, this really helps with my character creations and expanding the universe as a whole. You're really the hero we want, need, and deserve 🙏

Fantastic video--this was so much fun! 💕 I think I would be in Violet Wolf house as I spend a lot of time painting, drawing, dancing, reading and writing. 🌿💜 The Public School Arc was so enjoyable to read!! There was a ton of character development, sprinkled in comedy, and I greatly appreciated having fun moments with every character. I kept having to put the manga down due to laughing so much through reading these chapters!! Lau showing up with a bunch of beautiful women was hilarious, and 100% on-brand for him. Also, the grandpa Undertaker theory is one of my favorite ones! I like to think he's Ciel's great great great grandfather or something like that, and the Phantomhive's are all his descendants. It would be interesting if Claudia was his great great granddaughter from when he was alive, or something similar. Even if it's not true, I can't wait to see Undertaker's backstory revealed!

I would just to point out that most private schools to this day have "prefects" I go to a private school (so a school that charges tuition) and Prefects are actually selected from the 12th graders, or the seniors or the school, its usually 4 from different "houses" or "islands" which are set as pretty much the most infulential 4 students, so the student body is under them, the student council and even exchange students. And yes we do have houses, and i'm actually in the red team for my school. They also get special ties or certain additions to their uniform which signifies their status as a prefect.

I always love seeing all your comments!! I didn't know the over the edge tactics were based on a real cricket tournament! That's actually super cool! I do agree that Tanaka may have been somewhat of a father figure for Vincent and Francis! Tanaka is just the best like that asdfasdf But there's also the thought that they may not have had a present father figure in their lives, but I think this idea is based on the fact that their mother seemed to be the Watchdog, and also the theory that Undertaker would have been their father. So there's no telling how true that idea may be!

This is the first deep dive I've watched of yours, and as a non-Black Butler reader/watcher, I super appreciated the way you kept the mystery and suspense throughout the plot recap! I audibly GASPED when you revealed who the headmaster was. I knew of the character but I had no idea he was a villain in the series.
I watched this becuase of my friend (a BB fan) who has always said this was her favorite arc and because I knew the new anime season would cover this. You did a fantastic job, and kept my attention throughout the whole video which is extra impressive considering how long it is! I am going to have to watch your deep dive of the previous arc you kept referring to. Sounds super interesting, and I thought Edward was super charming so I want to see more of him.
I'm glad you enjoyed this wild ride!! I try to make these videos where people who haven't read the manga can still go on the ride and not feel like they were just getting spoiled because I have a few friends who, like you, haven't really read much of the manga, but they like watching the deep dives to get context for what this series is.
Idk if this is already a theory, but maybe the undertaker is causing all of this chaos through his experiments to see if he can figure out a way to prolong Ciel’s life after his soul is eaten by Sebastian. why else would Undertaker point out that he and Sebastian are equal’s but have opposite goals in all of this?
I can see that! Undertaker is invested in doing SOMETHING with Ciel and I'm inclined to believe he has no ill will towards him.

This was one of my fave arcs as it was the first I read after the anime adaptions of the previous arcs and I like it a lot, it was totally new for me.
I already knew J. K. Rowling built up Hogwarts inspired by Eaton and other English schools, and I also think that Toboso may have got along the Harry Potter trend exploiting the dark academia genre's success, which was very popular at the time!
Very interesting your take on the influence of sport anime: I liked Free! and, later, Yuri on Ice, but just because I like swimming and ice skating, the genre doesn't appeal to me and I found the cricket match too long and boring, even if I loved the arc in general.
I think Ciel doesn't want to have other friends not just because he doesn't care for McMillan and the others but because he doesn't want anymore people to risk life just because they are his friends: he later says a similar thing to Soma and I think he's totally right considering what happens next. This is also very sad.
I also think Sebastian generally likes to burn letter and photo and thrives when Ciel is isolated and depending on him. But I liked tutor-Sebastian because I think their dynamics in this chapter is a bit more equal and playful than usual.
I also missed Lizzie in this chapter, but liked Edward and the flashbacks on Vincent a lot. I bet that Undertaker will manage to save Ciel, but definitely not his twin (we'll see).
Also, your video makes me want to catch on with the manga, I think I'm 4-5 chapters behind.
The only think I disagree with is the prefects being just expelled: I don't think it's fair, being 18 they should be held responsible even if the brainwash was a thing and legal age was 21 at the time. But some corrective structures such as reformatories were also a thing, so they should have stayed at least some years there or be condemned to social labours.
Of course this didn't happen because they were very rich and priviledged and aristocrats got along with mostly everything at the time.
Anyway they killed five comrades plus the vice-headmaster, we don't see it portrayed as self-defence as Greenhill attacks from behind and one can also argue that the teenage bullies and torturers were brainwashed, so they deserved punishment but not dying.
Anyway I love your uniform and can't wait for the next arc! So much respect and esteem for your excellent work.

Oh if you’re interested in boarding school manga, you should check out Heart of Thomas and Kaze to Ki no Uta! Oniisama e is also another recommendation, although it takes place in an elite all-girls’ high school.

I’m pretty excited for 4 season for black butler western college arc and I really do hope the this arc makes fans to read the manga since the arc has mistory and murder vibe that makes it more interesting later on with undertaker being involved to make more bizarre dolls that act different then how they were on the compana arc and it is pretty funny that people do think it’s black butler having a crossover with Harry Potter and I think the dorm I would be violate wolf since I’m introverted and quiet person and I’m pretty sure yana to the whole western arc in Disney twisted wonderland game inspiration with 7 dorms and all the dorm leaders being a reference for original Disney villains and the color palette with both dorm uniform and school uniforms having ribbon arm bands with their dorm logo and ribbon having the dorm colors with black line In the middle or the ribbon wrapped in a bow 1. Heartslabyul/ queen of hearts dorm. Colors palette: red, white and black 2. Savanaclaw/ scar dorm. Color palette: black, orange and brown. 3. Octavinelle/ Ursula dorm. we see plenty of highschool anime but Victorian England upper class highschool ?CANON .These places are more exclusive than a private members club ,those prefects and the house crests were quite real .i want this to be 24 episodes and i'm waiting for 11
it's time to sch-ch-ch-ccc-school! (this is a yugioh reference.)
Anyway it's that time again and just in time for the new anime! the arc is a pretty fun one and this video has really reminded me of that. the drama, the sports anime vibes, all very funny. Soma is a treat as always and he's so happy to help out and i love that about him. and of course the overall mystery at the end of it all. honestly, i do think that maybe yana thought of the midnight tea party as an excuse to have undertaker do a mad hatter bit (not that it would be the first time). and then she kinda wove in some other alice stuff to justify it a bit. either way, it's a cool set piece. anyhow, the plot thickens and we learn the all important fact of knowing about ciel's grandmother. a fact that i am sure will pay dividends to us in the year 2030. (i know it's a monthly manga but the wait is still brutal.) UT grandpa truthers rise up.
but i think the big move the story makes with this arc is that it is not only reaffirming the threat that the bizarre dolls pose, but also that UT is going to be far more long lasting than any antagonist thus far, as kuro had been mostly episodic in terms of threats with no major long term enemy until now. plus, we finally get more insight into vincent, something that is both interesting and needed as more and more the previous heads of the family become relevant.
Also i think this is the real last arc before (in one way or another) we rocket into the truth about ciel and all that entails. a final sendoff to the days of old before we begin the real dive into the deep end.
i can't wait till april and getting to see all this sporty fun in animation!
Yeah, I can see that! The Blue Cult/Memory/Revenge arcs feel like we're gearing up to the end of the series if it's not going to be the end, but I have been saying this for several years. The way the next few arcs really meld into one another, especially the Blue arcs, it's becoming harder to draw direct lines between events in the story because they're starting to seamlessly lead into the next thing.

Random but the visuals around Ciel and McMillan talking in bed look very VERY similar to the visuals in the Green Witch Arc during the Big Reveal which makes me think maybe ciel saw a brother in McMillan
Loved the brief friendship they shared. Goodness knows Ciel *needs* to interact with other kids his age especially a cinnamon roll like McMillan.

It's very possible! There's a lot of weird foreshadowing for the manga in season 1 of the anime, at least to me there is. I don't know if Undertaker would be successful, but I do think that Ciel wouldn't be forever contracted to Ciel like at the end of season 2. I feel like if Undertaker was trying to save Ciel, that'd require breaking the contract.

watching this after a good portion of the arc has been animated and im glad to see that im not delusional and did in fact remember the manga way less uwu moe lets sexualize the hell out of these children. had no idea yana was influenced by classic shoujo so much im very dense so i SUPPOSE it makes some sense that theyd lean into that harder in the anime but i do mourn when the tone was dark enough to where its very obvious if something is fanservice and you can brush it off and when theres real danger that youre NOT meant to perceive that way. when they do the desaturated recap at the beginning of the episodes i get tricked into thinking im watching s1 xd. anyway i wont finish this video until i finish the anime maybe ill be back to yap who knows!
I noticed something quite strange. When I read the chapter “The Butler, Guiding” the first page shows how Ciel was able to identify that other students that weren’t assigned an upperclassmen were doing Cole’s dirty work because his hands weren’t rusty like the other student’s hands. Ciel states later on that he had Sebastian do all his chores during fag time. So basically Ciel kinda has no right to call Cole out for that.

The schools I went to had us sign a code of conduct thing every year in middle and high school. And we faced punishment if we didn't sign it within the first couple of weeks or so. This was public school in America.

by far my favorite arc in the manga; the unseriousness of it all is so great but it kicks off the absolute chaos that’s revealed in the future…. the mystery is compelling and every story beat is satisfying and the fact that it’s all in a school setting is just so funny and a breath of fresh air for the series
