@@Bell-et1lg I've had this thing lock on to the walkers and drop ships through mountains and buildings, but can't get it to lock onto a hulk, tank or fabricator in plain view with no terrain obstruction at a straight angle. Meanwhile the preview video for the spear shows it firing at a hull down tank.
I have a theory that there is a machine spirit that lives in the Spear and it gets off to just dangling the possibility of a lock on in front of you. Like a dominatrix thing

my thinking was just along the lines of why do we even need a lock on weapon when its so easy to hit hard shots with the other AT rockets. its just an idea I had

@@lohue9029 id say fix the lock on (which they are), and make it lock weak points rather than just the center, it would make it a good heat of the moment I don't have time to aim weapon, and also solidify its roll as the mid to long range tank remover. maybe not one shotting but still heavily damaging them. (so more than a standard AT but not enough to kill at crazy ranges) maybe at medium range it would one shot idk. It would still involve some skill in making sure that the enemies weak spots are visible and that the enemy isn't going to move so drastically that the shot will miss, but yea I hope the spear gets some love and brought up to par with the other AT weapons' thanks for coming to my ted talk!
Actually I feel it just needs to be consistent. So you bring up the reticle and hold left click when you like whatever the yellow triangle is hovering over I'm that instant. that target becomes the designated lock target. A box is drawn up around the target and you now must keep the lock target within the box for the charge timer. charge up timer of 2 seconds is imposed, when it is up, the rocket goes.
It still needs to be fire-and-forget. It's based on the Javelin, so that's kind of the point. They could make it so that left click "marks" an object and the missile will home in on that spot, even if that spot moves, but doesn't need you to manually guide the missile the whole way. That way you could also target weak points.

Changing the lock on function and giving it another firing mode would be a boon
Besides fixing the lock-on problems. It should take some inspirations from the Javelin launcher its based on. Give it 3 fire modes like some of the other weapons. The Spear would have its current mode, direct "Dumb" fire mode, and a "top attack" mode attacking from a high angle like a mortar. Its a cool weapon so I want to feel cool when using it

I’ve recently started using the spear shaking the bots and I’m really enjoying myself. Once I figured out how to use it. The Spear requires 2 things, -the full target to be in to be visible in Aim Down Sights, - clear visibility. Edging occurs when the target is obstructed in some way. by terrain, fog, explosion dust, storms, distance haze, or a part of the target not being within the guns reticle. (Hulk clipping the borders because it’s getting too close) I’m not saying the stratagem is good in its current state. There’s too many rules for it to be consistent. If you find the right planet to use it on, it’s a strong addition to have in your squad.
I think there should be an alternate fire mode where you can manually force the spear to lock onto player-set pings, with the caveat that it takes a few extra seconds to fire at pings you don’t have direct line of sight on. This would also give it an extra niche, where you can fire at heavy enemies or emplacements that your teammates have pinged without needing to be there, allowing you to operate like pseudo-artillery
I think the spear is almost in a very good position. I enjoy it very much against bots. My suggestions would be: 1. make sure that it does not lock on to small enemies, especially walkers (AT ST). 2. make sure it properly locks on to drop ship engines. 3. make it less affected by smoke or weather conditions. 4. Fix the lvl 4 ship upgrade which allows to fully resupply the spear . Its other weaknesses appear to be part of its balance: you trade the largest range, largest single-target damage vs. a backpack slot and the requirement to have a clear line of sight to the enemy. Up to the items mentioned above, this sounds like a fair trade.
I know the Spear has its faults. But on missions other than Defense and Eradication, it's a main support weapon on every bot mission. Sometimes I clear an entire map of buildings in less than ten (twenty for 7-9) with just the Spear, sometimes I hage to improvise for its eepy ass. Arrowhead has mentioned plans on improving the Spear. I'll be using it until then.

Most important thing for gear to be in a battle is consistent. So for that reason, I don't use spear (unless blitz) I don't generally like 380 (unless eradication or brick misson).
Separately, because spoilers: The Commando has toghleable fly-by-wire. Last I tried though, it was unusable at close or even medium range due to very high muzzle velocity and angled launch. Basically a four barreled Ea7 and just as disposable. We have a Stinger on the way (it looked disposable) as well as a cluster bomb RPG-looking weapon - so once they arrive, if we had the Spear stick to ground targets (or static tracking) that'll probably balance out some buffs.
It's use is opposite of most other weapons: It's great against titan-sized targets and installations, but gets significantly worse as the targets get smaller and smaller. Generally it's used against bots, and apart from Bile Titans, there's no need to actually bring it on bug hunts. That said, using first-person aiming helps a TON with the lock-on time and accuracy, since you can see what The Spear sees, but its damage does need some love. Took me four missiles to kill A single bot tank. That's messed up. Same goes for dropships. I love it though...
The spear is realistic, you see, if a fabricator is 20% blocked by a rock, we know thats a fabricator becuase our brains are the strongest computers on earth. But the spear, isnt that smart. Sure it knows what things are, but it needs to see the whole picture. The spear is incapable of making an edjucated guess with 100% accuraccy like we can, becuase frankly, the computer isnt strong enough. Its really cool and emersive, even though its a pain in the ass. Long story short, make sure your target isnt obstructed by anything, high ground is your friend, and avoid trees.
The problem is when the target _isn't_ obstructed and it still won't lock on. Which is a confirmed bug. For instance, there's no reason it shouldn't lock on gunships in clear skies.
Spear has been fairly consistent for me lately (knocking on wood) for bile titans in the new defense missions. If there's one weapon I feel needs a buff, it's the recoilless rifle, if only to have it stand out more from the expendable AT
Considering the “known issues” in the patch notes last week had something about the spear lock-on inconsistencies, I don’t think it’s meant to be as annoying as it is. I’m just waiting to see how it plays when they’ve fixed it, or at least improved it.
Instead of waiting for a lock-on, you should just be allowed to use R1 to "paint" the target for the aimer, and then free fire it to the target. (Or just have painted targets provide a larger targeting window for the Spear to Lock-on to.)
The weapon just not consistently locking on if at all far, far outweighs the versatility and usefulness in my opinion. I like the SPEAR too, it's strong. But making it so unreliable and frustrating to use is just... why take it? If it won't work 100% of the time, there are other weapons that can do its job too and DO work 100% of the time.
Yep. If they just give the Spear: + More consistent lock on + More power - Faster missiles, so there's a chance of missing if you don't bank the shot right like Worms - Slower lock on, and even slower if you're too close I think we'd have a winner. Aside from dealing with gunships, it serves a function as a very expensive "oh shit" button for when you're surprised by a Bile titan or factory strider just appearing from nowhere, as they do.
I loved the FAF-14 Spear for it’s ability to destroy enemy installations from a good distance away. However, the negatives are just too great for the positives to really shine. The edging problem should be completely removed, if it can lock on then it locks on. Also the real-life counter part the Javelin, has two modes. A top attack mode and direct attack mode. The top attack mode is the famous one, and the one in the game. It is where the missile shoots up in the air atound 150 m and then attacks the target from the top. I think the Spear would benefit from the direct attack mode, to make it more viable and hitting Hulks, Chargers and Bile Titans in their weakspots more effectively. This mode switch would fit perfectly in the Spear. If you found this informative make it known and loud. We need two modes for the FAF-14 Spear!!!!
When you successful lock-on to something just holding the lift click even when you reload so as soon as you finish reloading it will fire again to the the same target without waiting for an eternity
They should add a controllable guided missile as a separate weapon. The improvement I would want to see for the spear would be it being more aware of line of sight and 1 shotting drop ships. If the aiming window gave you a better indication of why it wasn't locking that would be a massive improvement.
Commando is a new leaked weapon that does follow your aim after you fire it. It's four shots and you throw it away with a 2:30 cool down. Also, don't nerf weapons just to make the spear better. Just buff the spear damage so it kills regardless of where it hits and it would be worth the hassle of It's auto aim.
The way I look at it I don't think the point of the spear is for it *to* autoaim, it's that due to being a higher payload with a higher intended range it needs to lock on rather than being free-fired... Like the lock on is a dependency rather than a feature That being said, it definitely needs that "lock on to pinged target" update BADLY
If you're firing an expensive guided missile, you want it to have the best chance of hitting the target. ...of course, the missile will be flying over bushes and rocks, so there's no need for those to be preventing lock-ons
I will disagree with one of your points, you actually can aim for weak spots. Once fired the missile will fly straight and up for about 15m. It will then in a tight, but not instant, arc and fly directly towards the target's center mass. It will target center mass shown by the lock on triangle, not any weak spots. The path is entirely predictable and not random. But it is a very non-intuitive method of aiming and limits how far away from center mass you can hit.
The Spear is basically a toxic, passive aggressive GF who contributes nothing to the relationship, but also gives great head. And like any abusive relationship, you're addicted to the pain.
It should work like Fortnite’s one, if it locks on, it locks on, otherwise if you aim somewhere while not having a target locked and pull the trigger, the rocket will fly in that general direction, go up, and then fall down towards the ground you aimed
Nerfing everything to bring things in line will not be beneficial for the game. If everything is better, make the specific thing better to bring it in line that way. In this manner, people can still enjoy the other weapons without having to sigh and groan because something wasn't strong enough.
mmmn, i prefer buffing bad weapons instead of nerfing good ones (i pray that they will give the explosive crossbow enviromental damage and bug hole closeing capabilities too)...
I figure if you just required it to be a first person aim and then you have to hold the sight/laser where you want it to hit and it hits that thing. Awesome for long range or if you have a shield generator, not so great for close range because taking damge will mess up your shot.
I prefer the solution of using the mark enemy mechanic that's already in the game. This would add more team play mechanics as well since everybody in the group could mark a high threat target and the dude with the spear locks on that instantly once he aims in that direction and fires. But tbh, knowing arrowhead by now, the piece of shit lock on system that the spear currently has is not intentional...
I like the video and the editing is great, but man are those old film lines distracting. I initially thought they were there to emphasize some parts of the video, like the demonstration footage, but it just kept on going throughout.
i absolutely dont agree with the idea of nerfing other AT weapons just to make the spear more viable. that wouldnt make the spear better, that would just make the entire AT weapon pool just kinda crap
They should make it like the Javelin from COD MW2 where you just held trigger on a spot and it would take a couple seconds to fire, but where it locked on it would go. It would lock on to aircraft and tanks too when needed.
Just add a option to manualy fire. Im totaly fine if i cant aim propery at least in melee that way i can kamikaze myself with it! (Plus give a biletitan a cheekshot sounds awesome)

One useful trick I use with the Spear is whenever I pick it in the loadout screen I pick any other AT. Works like a charm.

The leaked commando rocket launcher is a anti tank weapon that follows your cursor so I don't think they'll make the spear a lock on
They still can. EAT is just the expendable version of the recoilless Rifle so why not have the Commando be the expendable version of the Spear.

if you like edging, then the spear is the weapon for you. it's edging it's own lock-on.
All the spear needs is a dumb fire mode for when you’re in a pinch. Then it’s basically the recoiless with slightly worse ammo economy
it is very effective against gun ships and the cannons on striders. It actually locks on to gun ships very fast

Rockets move quickly, reducing the speed of the other anti tank weapons would serve no purpose but pissing off everyone else

The best solution is probably use the ping mechanic to serve as lock on system for the Spear.
Theres a leak showcasing laser targeted weapons similar to the spear, but because theyre laser guided they wont get eepy.

But making it so unreliable and frustrating to use is just... why take it? If it won't work 100% of the time, there are other weapons that can do its job too and DO work 100% of the time.
I always thought it would be awesome if you could control the trajectory of the spear. Like the javelin from CoD. That would be sick.

+ More consistent lock on
+ More power
- Faster missiles, so there's a chance of missing if you don't bank the shot right like Worms
- Slower lock on, and even slower if you're too close
I think we'd have a winner. Aside from dealing with gunships, it serves a function as a very expensive "oh shit" button for when you're surprised by a Bile titan or factory strider just appearing from nowhere, as they do.
I loved the FAF-14 Spear for it’s ability to destroy enemy installations from a good distance away. However, the negatives are just too great for the positives to really shine. The edging problem should be completely removed, if it can lock on then it locks on.
Also the real-life counter part the Javelin, has two modes. A top attack mode and direct attack mode. The top attack mode is the famous one, and the one in the game. It is where the missile shoots up in the air atound 150 m and then attacks the target from the top. I think the Spear would benefit from the direct attack mode, to make it more viable and hitting Hulks, Chargers and Bile Titans in their weakspots more effectively. This mode switch would fit perfectly in the Spear. If you found this informative make it known and loud. We need two modes for the FAF-14 Spear!!!!
When you successful lock-on to something just holding the lift click even when you reload so as soon as you finish reloading it will fire again to the the same target without waiting for an eternity

Funny enough, the spear makes a great AA weapon against bot gunships, oneshots all of them
They should add a controllable guided missile as a separate weapon. The improvement I would want to see for the spear would be it being more aware of line of sight and 1 shotting drop ships. If the aiming window gave you a better indication of why it wasn't locking that would be a massive improvement.

Commando is a new leaked weapon that does follow your aim after you fire it. It's four shots and you throw it away with a 2:30 cool down.
Also, don't nerf weapons just to make the spear better.
Just buff the spear damage so it kills regardless of where it hits and it would be worth the hassle of It's auto aim.
Thankfully they don’t know how to fix the locking mechanism on that trident or whatever it’s called.
The way I look at it I don't think the point of the spear is for it *to* autoaim, it's that due to being a higher payload with a higher intended range it needs to lock on rather than being free-fired... Like the lock on is a dependency rather than a feature
That being said, it definitely needs that "lock on to pinged target" update BADLY
If you're firing an expensive guided missile, you want it to have the best chance of hitting the target.
...of course, the missile will be flying over bushes and rocks, so there's no need for those to be preventing lock-ons
I will disagree with one of your points, you actually can aim for weak spots. Once fired the missile will fly straight and up for about 15m. It will then in a tight, but not instant, arc and fly directly towards the target's center mass. It will target center mass shown by the lock on triangle, not any weak spots. The path is entirely predictable and not random. But it is a very non-intuitive method of aiming and limits how far away from center mass you can hit.
The Spear is basically a toxic, passive aggressive GF who contributes nothing to the relationship, but also gives great head. And like any abusive relationship, you're addicted to the pain.

It would be nice if it could lock onto pings. An ally can see the fabricator but you can't, so they ping it and you lock onto the ping

Im fine with either fixed lock or a TOW missile both are good options
It should work like Fortnite’s one, if it locks on, it locks on, otherwise if you aim somewhere while not having a target locked and pull the trigger, the rocket will fly in that general direction, go up, and then fall down towards the ground you aimed

Nerfing everything to bring things in line will not be beneficial for the game. If everything is better, make the specific thing better to bring it in line that way. In this manner, people can still enjoy the other weapons without having to sigh and groan because something wasn't strong enough.

I figure if you just required it to be a first person aim and then you have to hold the sight/laser where you want it to hit and it hits that thing. Awesome for long range or if you have a shield generator, not so great for close range because taking damge will mess up your shot.

I prefer the solution of using the mark enemy mechanic that's already in the game. This would add more team play mechanics as well since everybody in the group could mark a high threat target and the dude with the spear locks on that instantly once he aims in that direction and fires. But tbh, knowing arrowhead by now, the piece of shit lock on system that the spear currently has is not intentional...

fix the spear by making it so a fellow helldiver can join up and aim it for you as a Wire Guided Missile

i absolutely dont agree with the idea of nerfing other AT weapons just to make the spear more viable. that wouldnt make the spear better, that would just make the entire AT weapon pool just kinda crap
They should make it like the Javelin from COD MW2 where you just held trigger on a spot and it would take a couple seconds to fire, but where it locked on it would go. It would lock on to aircraft and tanks too when needed.
Instead of nerfing other AT, why not have the spear have faster lock on and lock-on to weak spots?
