I remember these two acknowledging their past as being quite odd back in the day even though I was like 8 years old. There was never any mention of these two not getting along in wwf. The only way to know was if you read the wrestling magazines or had nwa on tv in your area also.
mustaffa1611 yep that’s how I found out back then. Through Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine and was totally shocked that these two great heels in WWF at that time, were once very bitter enemies in the NWA.
Its funny these guys were in nwa ring at starrcade 83 in the dog collar match a few months before this ,but money and shorter less brutal matches brought them to the WWF.
The first Piper's Pit i ever saw. On the furst WWF show i ever saw on tv. Prior to this, where i lived all we got on tv was All Star Wrestling (Burnaby/Vancouver) and Stampede out of Calgary. (And Don Owens out of Portland for a short time)
Just the year before, these two, Roddy Piper and Greg Valentine, had been in the NWA, in a very bitter and exhausting feud against each other, and Greg Valentine hit Roddy Piper so hard in one of ears, that he permanently lost his hearing in that ear! Now, here in this clip, we see these two uniting. Wrestling sure can create some weird alliances, cant it?!?
IMO, the demise of Mid Atlantic Wrestling was the worst thing that could have happen to Valentine- after that he was just a small fish in a very big POND.
WayneP117 wait Greg Valentine from 84-86 was a main event level heel and one of the biggest names in wrestling he was IC champ and tag team champ with the dream team. His fueds with Tito Santana, JYD, the British Bulldogs, and Hulk Hogan were selling out shows all over the U.S.
Awkward, typical twisting of good and bad by the then WWF. Just not acceptable the way they played that out, considering only one year earlier the bitter and horrifically violent feud that went on in WCW/NWA between then good guy and crowd favorite Rowdy Roddy Piper against despised arch-villain Greg "The Hammer" Valentine which ended in that unforgettable, bloody dog collar match at Starrcade '83 was legendary. Piper barely won the match and inflicted some serious revenge on Valentine, in the meantime Piper actually losing his hearing permanently in one ear from the irreversible damage he received from constant blows to his ear from Valentine using his fist wrapped from the chain they were both connected to. Both men were a bloody mess.
a year or so later, this was unheard of. no one in WWF acknowledged another company much less a preivious feud outright in the pre WCW buyout days.
NWA?
That's how big their feud was. It had to be acknowledged. I remember thinking "WOW!!!"
what a difference a year makes
From having dog collars around their necks to shaking hands.
Interesting pit.
Piper Valentine feued should have started up again in the wwf.

@@44HardCase thank you for replying to such an amazing comment. I am much obliged to you young man.
Albano inflated each of their heights by 2 inches.

There's the other version of this. The realer feeling version.
The one where Valentine is in his robe, and Piper asks him to show the belt.
Their nwa days were much better.
I feel so good, so fine, so elated, it's all one of a kind- yeahhhh ohhhhh!!

this was on my birthday

Greg valentine really looks like his father no DNA tests needed
those two would had a rivalry again in wwe
'ALBAINO' - Classic Rodney
There's only one Captain Lou
The amount of coke that was flowing backstage at this time would of made Pablo impressed..
“Sweet poetry in motion” the best hype men back then
But! Lou Albano hadn't got these two together as tag team partner. It never happened.
Didn't they bury the hatchet in another Pit which was far more intense?
Yes the one from All-Star wrestling has an intense stare down before they shake hands.
I was gonna say...why do it twice? And this was a full year after the feud.
IMO, the demise of Mid Atlantic Wrestling was the worst thing that could have happen to Valentine- after that he was just a small fish in a very big POND.
plus trying to make valentine a guitar singer too lol

Valentine declined after WM2.
What he lacked in Mike skills, he made up for it with the best face plant in the business
There was way more talent in the mid Atlantic in those days.
The other bury the hatchet pit was better
Link?

That match was epic! One of the best ever. Totally agree with you!
Romansilvercoin Dude, that loss of hearing in his ear was a work that Piper perpetuated to his death. Ever the old-school kayfaber.
It wasnt a work. Piper gigged himself with a razor blade and cut too big.
Wow, Captain Lou is "elated".
Didn't they bury the hatchet in another Pit which was far more intense?
I thought they did as well.
They buried 2 hatchets...LOL
Championship Wrestling was one show, the other show was on Maple Leaf Wrestling.
Yes that is also on youtube with Valentine in a blue robe and it looked like a heel vs. heel interview.
