Sharafat Bhai Lived his prime under his father’s shadow just as Munawar Ali khan sb lived under the shadow of his father Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali khan Sb. He did not get the credit or recognition he truly deserved, a complete singer with years of refinement under his belt, great example of voice culture within the confines of Shaam Churasi gayaki. The ecstatically gifted singer, even with the sharpness of aakar of Shaam Churasi in taar saptak, he is bearable to the ear. Khan sb salamat Ali khan, only suffered tonal hindrance in aakar post his stroke, which the younger generation of Shaam Chaurasi have adapted to be their style, only noticeable in their aakar in taar saptak. Sur has to be soothing to the listening ear, irrespective of one’s technical abilities without the appropriate medium to reach the ear, it’s a futile task. It easily disengages the listener, rendering any encapsulation achieved prior through the performance. A point to remember here is that Sharafat Bhai was fighting illness at this stage of his life, Allah swt ease his onward journey, Inshaallah.
