‪@tssf‬ already restored this along with the entire rest of the soundtrack with his Synthetic Origins series, but it's always fun to take a crack at it yourself, y'know?
I actually had this midi file done waaaay back in 2018. this was my first real crack at a big boss-type song from a video game, instead of all the little kirby things I was doing around that time. I actually remember being in the rehearsals for a musical my high school was putting on, and working on this on my laptop whenever I wasn't needed on stage (yeah I was a theater kid lol). that laptop was a chunky thang and couldn't handle too many instances of C700 at once, but working on that taught me a lot of things that I still do today
the biggest differences you'll probably hear in terms of samples are the low string at the beginning, the bass, the trumpet, and the guitar. but in terms of clarity, just LISTEN to the drumset! the toms and snare are so punchy, and the crash and hi hat are crystal clear. that's what I think I love most about restorations, the clarity of uncompressed samples. of course, some of them are still not the best quality (the strings were recorded at 30000hz), but it's literally twice as good as the 15000hz or lower samples that were squeezed into the SNES

This is some incredible work here. I already loved your remixes and now, man your restorations are absolutely fantastic. It means the world that you're doing FF5 with both the full patch and single sample. I personally really wanted Synthetic Origins FF5 to use a lot more full patches, but I understand why Mat was hesitant. It's so cool to see someone who was there with me now take their shot at it, incredible work
