Crafting an image with color doesn't always have to be based around complicated theory and color combinations; how you feel about a certain color, how your character feels about a certain color, or simply your own intuition toward using a certain color, may play a more important role in telling the story - and, in tandem, creating the intended feeling for the image.
Using color with these feelings in mind can form a base, which can be built upon using more complicated theory - and with a base to work from, the generally accepted ideas, combinations and theory around color, can feel much less intimidating.
This is just one aspect of what can contribute toward a cinematic feeling - check out the other episodes in the Lighting for Cinema A - Z series to learn more about what makes cinema feel a certain way:

Thank you so much for your kind words Jacques! It’s always a little disheartening when a video you work hard on doesn’t get as many people watching as you’d like - but if I got stuck on those thoughts, I’d have to stop making videos how I want to make them - and that would be way more disheartening haha! What makes this channel so good is is the fact Rob shows what he is doing instead of just sitting in front of a camera talking about it. Your seeing how he is using what he is talking about to create. RUclips is filled with talking heads just doing a video so they can hear the sound of there own voice and needed to do one.
Colour plays a huge part in life. Signs, adverts all have a set Colour to get the mind thinking what they want.

Thank you so much! I do try to go the extra mile to ensure something can always be learned or taken away from the video topic. I wouldn't discount talking head videos though - it can be an engaging way to discuss something and saves on edit time. I'm actually going to put a few of these out soon to fill gaps between the main videos, although I will always strive to make any video I create useful and not just fluff.

Your videos simply even discussing light kicks start so many peoples creativity. You are a godsend to all of us without a leg in the industry but out here doing decades of work on minimal or no budget indie/commercial stuff.

I love the content you make every time and I learn so much from it. You always approach everything from the cinematography side, which really sparks ideas. However something I'd love to see in the future is taking a lightsource/modifier and showing the scenarios where it fits well, or where it doesn't fit well.
