Episode 43 - Episode 45 Notes: (Ill Repost this on EP 45)
Events between Battle of Badr and Battle of Uhud
The Invasion & Expulsion of Banu Qaynuqa
This occurred 3 weeks after the Battle of Badr, the largest Yahud tribe in Medina called the Banu Qaynuqa began expressing their anger at the Quraysh’s defeat at Badr. This led up to an exchange where a Muslim man was killed by the Yahud, for killing a Yaudi man, who disrespected the honour of a Muslim woman. The Prophet SAW then announced that the treaty of Medina had been broken and that the Banu Qaynuqa no longer has a treaty with the Muslims. After which, the Prophet SAW and the Muslims immediately began marching upon the Banu Qaynuqa.
The Banu Qaynuqa lived in fortresses outside Medina and they planned to stay locked up in there. However, the Prophet SAW ordered the Muslims to surround the fortress and let the Banu Qaynuqa supplies run out and after 15 days they surrendered unconditionally. The Banu Qaynuqa were then taken prisoner and they asked Abdullah Ibn Ubayy ibn Salul, to help them out and the Prophet SAW exiled them after his insistence. But in doing so they left a lot of booty that the Muslims gained. After this, the Qaynuqa fled to Khaybar.
    The Invasion of Al Kudr
Two months after Badr, an unhappy Arabian tribe, called the Banu Salim, planned to attack Medina but were confronted by the Muslims and fled. They wanted to attack because the Muslims winning the Battle of Badr meant that they lost out on business.
    The Sariyya of Sawiq
Two months after Badr, Abu Sufyan gather 200 men and attempted to get revenge on the Muslims were winning at Badr. The Banu Nadir tribe helped Abu Sufyan get into Medina and he then attacked and killed two Muslim men. The Prophet SAW and the Muslims chased him but were unsuccessful in capturing him.
    The Sariyya of Al Qarada
This occurred in the 3AH and was the precursor for the Battle of Uhud. The Quraysh attempted to send their usual caravan to Syria for trade and took a secret route. The Prophet SAW got intelligence of this and sent Zayd Ibn Haritha RA who along with other 99 other Muslims successfully captured the caravan. They brought it back to Medina and the loot was shared. The capture of this caravan hit the Quraysh hard.
The Assassination of Ka’b Ibn Al-Ashraf
Ka’b Ibn Al Ashraf was a wealthy handsome Jew of Medina who had allied with the Quraysh and was always mocking the Prophet SAW and Islam. He wrote poems that insulted the Prophet SAW and even wrote erotic poems about Muslim women by name. This led to the Prophet SAW ordering his assassination and he was killed by Muhammad Ibn Maslamah RA. After Ka’bs death the Jewish tribes complained, but the Prophet SAW ignored them due to their past transgressions.

Disclaimer for my Notes of Sheikh Yasir Qadhi’s Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Series:
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, these are my notes on Sheikh Yasir Qadhi’s Seerah series.
Please note: I HIGHLY recommend that you all watch YQ’s Seerah series, as I DON’T cover every single detail the Sheikh mentions. I made these notes primarily for myself but, decided my fellow brothers and sisters may benefit from them too. I no doubt will have made mistakes in my notes. All the good in these notes is from Allah SWT and all the mistakes are from myself. But, I was very meticulous and tried my best to make sure everything is accurate as the Sheikh mentions it.
You also will see I have added “Fun Trivia facts” under each of my notes. These FTFs are information YQ said that was off topic or not necessary to include in my notes for the episode. But, they were still worth mentioning hence the inclusion as FTFs. FTFs aren’t always HAPPY pieces of information. Sometimes they are very sad trivia. I just want to say that FTF is the phrase I used for them all collectively when making the notes.
One thing I wanted to do but am too lazy to do is, maybe someone could take the FTFs from under each “Episode” and make an Islamic reminder/information IG/TikTok account and post them daily or something. Could be a great form of Sadaqah Jaariyah.
Please keep me in your Duas and ask Allah SWT to forgive all our sins during this blessed month and beyond! Ameen

Extrajudicial murder by nation states are almost a norm in todays world e.g drone attacks, rendition then torture then murder etc etc.
So I dont see why anyone today can complain about this and why it needs defending specifically.
I don't regard this incident as being extrajudicial anyway, but that's a side issue.

    • @michalptacnik1
      @michalptacnik1 7 лет назад +8

Because Islam claims to be divine, so its standards should be far above what is "almost a norm" in todays world. Also, it is worth noting that if you analyse the matter of the infamous American drone attacks, you will see that most of them, and probably one hundred percent were in fact not aimed at civilians but at enemy combatants. Of course it is the bad of America that they entertained the possibility that they might miss, as they indeed had missed, and thereby kill civilians. Still, a mistake is a long way from deliberate acts of oppression.

    • @gray_gogy

@@michalptacnik1 Going with what you said, that justifies this even more. The reason for trial and judgement is to determine whether or not the person is truly guilty. If Islam is divine, there would be no need to have trial as God and his messenger would know for a fact whether or not the person is guilty. However, American government cannot claim to be divine so their attacks are what are truly wrong if you posit such methods of attack to be wrong. But while discussing with those who don't accept Islam as divine, we say that in these circumstances the killing of Ka'b is not oppressive but it is a standard of war the same way America does not put its drone targets on trial. But American drones kill way more than just their intended targets. Its not simply that they miss, even if they hit, they kill many civilians along with the target which Islam would never allow.

Go read Bart Ehrman's books. Christianity is not the religion of Jesus ‎ﷺ‎ and Bible scholars all know this nowadays.

Some people use the hadith where the prophet ordered the killing of Ka'b bin al-Ashraf to "prove" that anyone who insults the prophet, his punishment is capital punishment.
Lets forget that the arabic word آذى can mean many different things, and that it says Ka'b made "athaa" of both the prophet and Allah آذَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ, and let's forget the other proofs brought by the proponents of capital punishment for this offense and lets focus on this hadith alone as it is one of their (in their opinion) strongest proofs for their claim.
In his "Fath al-Bari" Ibn Hajar brings different narrations to show and support the fact that Ka'b did not merely insult the prophet, he actually made an alliace with the Quraysh to fight the prophet and all the muslims.
Ibn Hajar mentions narrations that shows that Ka'b:
    1. Made insulting poetry AND supported the mushrikeen/polytheists (against the prophet)
    2. That Ka'b went to the mushrikeen of Quraysh and swoar to fight the muslims, including the prophet.
    3. That he encouraged the Quraysh to fight the muslims, and that the prophet found out about this and said: He has showed his hostility towards us..
    4. That Ka'b and others invited the prophet to a gathering where they wanted to deceit him, but the prophet was told about their plans against him before they could hurt him, and then the prophet told his companions to go after Ka'b. (this narration is weak though according to Ibn Hajar himself).
Ibn Hajar then mentions that it was the opinion of al-Bukhari that Ka'b was "Muhaarib", one who waged war against the muslims, and that this is evident from al-Bukharis tarjumas to this hadith (different places in his "Sahih", which was Bukharis style):
    Bukhari says:
"Chapter: War is deceit / باب الْحَرْبُ خَدْعَةٌ"
And then he brings this hadith:
    Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) called war deceit.
    Then Bukhari says:
Chapter: Telling lies in war
And then he mentions the hadith where the prophet told his companions to go after Ka'b:
    Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Who is ready to kill Ka`b bin Al-Ashraf who has really hurt Allah and His Apostle?" Muhammad bin Maslama said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Do you like me to kill him?" He replied in the affirmative. So, Muhammad bin Maslama went to him (i.e. Ka`b) and said, "This person (i.e. the Prophet) has put us to task and asked us for charity." Ka`b replied, "By Allah, you will get tired of him." Muhammad said to him, "We have followed him, so we dislike to leave him till we see the end of his affair." Muhammad bin Maslama went on talking to him in this way till he got the chance to kill him.
    Sahih al-Bukhari 3031
For the prophet Muhammad peace was always his first choice and war was his last choice, but when a man like Ka'b went behind his back and tried to get him and the muslims killed, by joining the very group of people who expelled the prophet and the muslims from Mecca and killed alot of muslims before this, the prophet was forced to defend himself and the muslims from being killed, tortured and expelled from their homes a second time.
With all the evidences taking into consideration it is clear that Ka'b did not only insult the prophet verbally, he actually made and alliance with the Quraysh to fight and kill the prophet and the rest of the muslims and he made this very clear by stating this/his loyalty to Quraysh by holding on to the cloth of the Ka'bah (an old practice back then for showing how serious they were about "X") and swearing that he would fight the prophet and the muslims.
He knew that the prophet and the muslims would be told about this: That he was now figting the prophet and the muslims alongside with the Quraysh tribe. This was a declaration of war, simple as that.
To summarize: Ka'b openly stated that he had become an enemy of the prophet and the muslims and that he was going to fight them alongside the Quraysh tribe, and yes he did insult the prophet verbally and in poems, but that was not the only "harm" / آذى he caused the prophet, as is clear from these evidences.

I think one other way this could be understood is in light of the verse revealed to our beloved Messenger (SAW) regarding the prisoners of war of Badr and the perfect verdict given to us and the Messenger (SAW) in the Qur'an by Allah (SWT) and what befits him (SAW) until he becomes more powerful. Allah (SWT) knows best and I'm only making an observation in light of the story of Badr.

    Summary:
Ka’ab Ibn al Ashraf- his father was pagan mother was Jewish from Banu Nadeer. His father committed murder outside of Medina so he fled to Madina and Banu nadeer adopted him. Kaab was one of main leaders, was handsome and was a great poet. His enimosoty towards Islam was since very beginning of Hijra (when Hijra was changed he said why did they change their qibla (Allah quotes him), told his Ansar friends not to give Zakat, (Allah quotes him in An Nisa:37 of those who are stingy). When Muslims came back from Badr and Zaid Ibn Harithah announced all those Quraysh who are dead Kaab said “if this is true it’s better to be dead” (pronounced verdict against himself). After Badr, he took Banu Nadeer to Mecca and formed alliance with Abu sufyan. Sufyan asks him who is more rightly guided (pagans or Muslims), Kaab says Pagans (Allah quotes this: Nisa:51) Allah told Muhammad saw about this alliance. Kaab used to write poetry against Islam, when he got back to Medina he wrote erotic poetry about Muslim women. (It was his idea to poison food which Muhammad saw would later eat) Muhammad Ibn Maslamah volunteered to kill Kaab (Maslamah was from Ous and Nadeer and Ous were good friends). Maslamah was scared he wouldn’t be able to do it so he didn’t eat for 3 days, Muhammad saw said just try. Maslamah called Kaab and started talking about how much hardships Muhammad saw put on us (he wasn’t serious) (Kaab got happy), Maslamah had to give something for mortgage to Kaab since Kaab was money lender (wouldn’t give his wife or son), so he said he’ll give weapons. At night, when Kaab was with his new young wife, Maslamah and Abu Naila (Kaabs foster brother), came to Kaab with weapons and Naila asked “I smell nicest perfume can I smell ur head”, Kaab lowered his head then they held his head and killed him.
Muhammad saw had authority to kill him how he wanted since he was leader of Medina. (This secret targeted assasination is still protected today by west)

Ka'ab is indirectly advised the young jewish and other filthy people to attack the Muslim womens during the night in his poet. So Prophet sallallahu alaiwasallam did a great job to assasinate him the same action.

Muslima asked for lying and while kaab came outside, he and his friends had a plan to kill him ( not to fulfill the deed). And this group of friends, Kaab foster brother was also involved. This hadith is either fabricated or weak and if not, it raises a question what is truth then?

Why is it that in so many narrations we find the Prophet to be extremely forgiving and merciful, but in a few narrations like this one with Kab bin Ashraff we find him to be angry and vengeful? Personally I think this narration goes against the noble and beautiful character of the Prophet. Why also would he sanction his companions to be deceitful and treacherous? Many scholars held the opinion that if a narration contradicts with others and with the overall character and message of the Prophet, one of mercy and love, then it can be rejected. So I see no problem in rejecting this entire story. Just because it is in Bukhari does not mean it has to be accepted blindly. Bukhari himself was a human being and all human beings make mistakes. Only the prophets are protected from sin just as they are protected from anger, hatred and vengeance. I pray I am not being an apologetic or an innovator, rather I am simply using my mind to properly understand the Deen rather than blindly following scholars and their narrations.

That dude committed many crimes including treason which is a big crime ka'ab knew what he's doing lol even the wife knew he'll get killed by basically declaring war so he's dealt with how he should be dealt it's not surprising we hear prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ordering people to be executed. Remember he's the judge too apparently at that stage there weren't system of trials nor prison Allah knows best though what's the point of a trial when the prophet (peace be upon him) knew ka'ab was guilty of the many crimes he done so this is what appropriate in that time plus this isn't a personal vendetta it's crime against Allah & his messenger it affects the muslim community as they would be danger if abu sufiwan & his troops surprised attacked them.
It's mentioned in other sources too not just bukhari & muslim this isn't about blindly following those scholars so how this inauthentic I don't get your point? You need to understand the situation why this happened. Allah knows best.
Also understand the prophet (peace be upon him) was human he can be angry, hate something & do mistakes though not big 1s again this incident isn't some personal vendetta against ka'ab so this was justified from my understanding & the prophet (peace be upon him) never did personal vendetta like how he was grabbed by that leader of the Jewish tribe the hypocrite but didn't do anything & he let the Jewish tribe go the sheikh talked about it in the last episode. I think you're being apologetic by rejecting this story despite being proven it's authentic.

      The video outlines:
Nasty propoganda against muslims particularly women
      Treason
Helping enemies of the state...the tribe already helped the attackers as mentioned and the man himself was plotting with abu sufian to assassinate the Prophet SAWS
its not just for speaking out against him
We must excercise caution and intellect in deriving conclusions :)
      Hypothetical example:
Alfredia(majority Hindu tribes country) and Batmania(majority Christian tribes country) are at war.
There is a area in Batmania where mostly Jewish communities live....
they hosted and refreshed the Alfredians before they go on to COVERTLY attack Batmanians and loot and kill a couple of them as well before fleeing.
the Leader of this country, Batman still lets the Jewish tribes be...
Then of Jewish leaders of that very community (supposedly a fellow countryman) start propoganda against the Virgin birth of Jesus, the trinity, against Batman and spreads sexual poetry about the nuns of Batmania...still alive btw....THEN this guy in full knowledge of his tribe that already hosted Alfredians as guests before they attack Batmania (treason) starts plotting with Alfred (leader) of the Alfredians to kill Batman all the while living within Batmania.
What is the verdict against such a man? Also factor in that Batman maybe still has the Jewish tribe as a whole...so instead of Banning the whole Jewish community from Batmania..instead of starting civil war by formally executing this Jewish leader...he lets his special ops team go on a mission to deal with the treason...spy...enemy of state...helper of Alfredians during war...etc.
it's not a perfect example but a parallel...soon as you take the word Muslim out of the story this somehow get easier to understand :/
Allah knows best what and how things happened...but I know this much...the rasool SAWS is perfect and as is the Justice of Allah...at difficult situations like this as in every case, I will place my trust on Him and His messenger when my logic and rationing fails...which is limited unlike the wisdom of Allah and His Rasool SAWS

Filthy behavior, and the treason alone would get anyone in any time and place executed. Even the manner in which the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) killed him was fine. Kab Ib Al Ashraf blasphemed against Prophet Muhammad saw. So the punishment fits the crime.

Something to mention just to uncover the lies:
"He (Muhammad) never kept any males Slaves, whenever slave that he got he freed that slave."
"These are the names of Muhammad's male slaves: Yakan Abu Sharh, Aflah, 'Ubayd, Dhakwan, Tahman, Mirwan, Hunayn, Sanad, Fadala Yamamin, Anjasha al-Hadi, Mad'am, Karkara, Abu Rafi', Thawban, Ab Kabsha, Salih, Rabah, Yara Nubyan, Fadila, Waqid, Mabur, Abu Waqid, Kasam, Abu 'Ayb, Abu Muwayhiba, Zayd Ibn Haritha, and also a black slave called Mahran, who was re-named (by Muhammad) Safina (`ship')."
Ibn Qayyim Zad al-Ma'ad, pp. 115
"Mohammed had many male and female slaves. He used to buy and sell them, but he purchased more slaves than he sold, especially after God empowered him by His message, as well as after his immigration from Mecca. He once sold one black slave for two. His name was Jacob al-Mudbir. His purchases of slaves were more than he sold. He was used to renting out and hiring many slaves, but he hired more slaves than he rented out." pp.160
    and also:
" ...So I went to the upper room where the Prophet was and requested to a black slave of his: "Will you get the permission of (Allah's Apostle) for Umar (to enter)? The slave went in, talked to the Prophet about it..." Sahih Bukhari
    Hadith 2468
there is also a balck slave called called Anjasha
And he even enslaved a free slave again:
A man decided that a slave of his would be manumitted after his death and later on he was in need of money, so the Prophet (ﷺ) took the slave and said, "Who will buy this slave from me?" Nu'aim bin `Abdullah bought him for such and such price and the Prophet (ﷺ) gave him the slave.
    Sahih Bukhari
    Hadith 2141

This is not a lie. How easily u misunderstood all the hadith. Prophet s.a.w never kept slaves, he frees all of them and they voluntarily stayed with Him because of His good character and manners.
The last hadith h have referred, in it Prophet s.a.w was making a light heart joke with him and by slave he meant slave of Allah.
We r all slaves of Allah.
Please refine ur understanding about hadith better. Study with a teacher. Then reply.

It does not matter what kind of political system it had on that time. How could assassination take place? If it was about hurting/harming Allah or eventually Muhammad (S:), Allah could punish him by taking his life. How prophet told muslema to lie!!! killing some one deceiving!!! i can't accept the explanation.

What happening now a days you can't even compare....because we don't have prophesy. As it was about the time of the prophet Muhammad (S:) everyone is willing to know about his life, decision and thinking process. There are lots of history but our prophet is not a story. That is the reason we need to know the truth.

So you want to say that my religion is about threatening anyone?!? Islam is all about peace as it means, not threatening anyone. You explanation is not accepted as it goes against the basic of my religion. Govt never executes anyone in the dark! Kaab was not a rat, a HUMAN. I have been taught all my life that at any situation I should not lie; even not to hide the truth. These explanation is not acceptable what I have been learnt about my religion.

threatening them means keeping them away from plotting anything evil... they lived in a different time...they had to engage in battles...it was easy for us to become muslims because they conquered our land...otherwise we would have remained as our forefathers were many years ago...u can lie in the battlefield as far as i know...and yesterday i heard a beautiful hadith that prophet(sm) never punished someone just because he didn't like that person....rather he only punished someone when he thought it was good for the muslims...so don't think kaab was executed just because prophet(sm) was personally displeased with him...

    • @truthseeker4490
      @truthseeker4490 9 лет назад +3

yes u might grow some sympathy for him when u hear how they killed him but still we need to realize that whatever Allah lets happen, there is "hiqma" behind it...i was also not fully satisfied watching this video...i was also thinking why he was killed that way..And Allah knew what was happening in my mind so he presented that hadith to me where i came to know that rasul(sm) only executed someone when he thought it was better for the ummah, not for his personal grudge against him...

And how come attacking a far away caravan was justified on moral reason. He was a prophet, shud have been happy in madina with his ppl, why was he sending his men to loot quraishs? How can this be justified? Your best defence would be “whatever he did is binding to us, Allah did not send any wahi, so he approved looting of Caravan”. The quraish persecuted the Muslims out of Makkah and confiscated the Muslims lands and property.
That is why Allah(SWT) DID SEND WAHI and permitted the Prophet and the Muslims in retribution(DEFENCE) fight back and take what belonged to them to start with.

So the man said “allow me to lie” and the prophet approved therequest to kill an enemy. Why r u trying to compare it with tge US drone atrikes to justify the immoral way to get rid of enemy. How does it suit the conduct of a prophet who came to enlighten the “jahalee” tribals. You r simply saying “it was right because the prophet did it”. That means nothing can be questioned on even moral basis. The guy has a blanket approval to do anything he likes. Your best ( and the ONLY) defence is “allah did not send down a wahi (that too would come to the man who authorised the killing), so allah was also OK with it.” How convenient!!
