Once in Las Vegas, Elvis did an impromptu impression of Johnny Cash. It wasn’t the greatest, but it was better than one might expect. He started out with “Folsom Prison Blues,” and sang a bit of that. Then he did part of “I Walk the Line.” He did noticeably better on the latter. You can find the audio on RUclips, although most of the videos cut it a bit short.

Johnny Counterfeit just like Mel Blanc was a man of many voices. It would be extremely difficult if not impossible to beat him doing any impersonations especially the Johnny Cash one. Sure miss him

Come on, Joaquin did a good job. He wasn’t trying to be a JC impersonator, he was just playing a part. I love that movie and all the music scenes. I guess you’d BBQ Sissy Spacek and Beverly D’Angelo for their performances in Coal Miner’s Daughter.

This video addresses the ability for someone to sound like Johnny Cash. Joaquin, while he is a great actor and lots of folks loved this movie, he does not sound very much like Johnny Cash.

@@CountryMusicTimeMachine But that was my point, he never claimed to be a dead on Johnny impersonator, it was just a role in a movie. He did a great job. Now, that skinny kid in this video. I said to my wife "You can't just sing in a lower register and say it's Johnny Cash" hahaha!!

A few films to note the short film "I Still Miss Someone," released in 1999 and featuring Mark Collie as Johnny Cash. Additionally, Matt Ross portrayed Johnny Cash in the television movie "Ring of Fire," which centers on the life of June Carter Cash and was released in 2013. Both performed songs in their respective roles. There's also Alamo Jones, who, while not an impersonator, has a voice that closely resembles Johnny Cash's.

The 1st singer had the closest voice to Johnny's. The 3rd was the best impersonation. But it was Vince Mira who was the actual best. His voice isn't quite the same as Johnny's, but it has that deep feeling that Johnny had, and that the other two are missing just a tiny bit. Johnny had a deeply layered voice and could express such deep emotion. It is what made songs like Folsom Prison Blues so powerful. I do hear a lot of that in Vince Mira's performance.
I am pretending the Joaquin Phoenix part didn't happen.

Joaquin was cast for his look and he held his own for the purposes of the movie. Did he sound like Johnny? Not so much. I also have no clue why John Jr. doesn't know what his dad sounded like, because that guy wasn't it. The other two were decent impersonators as far as that goes. Johnny's voice was unique and cannot be imitated. When he walked out and said, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" the entire world around me went away and I lived in his music. I was fortunate enough to have him come to my city many times and I never missed a show. I listen to lots of RUclips singers doing their own music and only twice have I commented "You've got a Johnny Cash vibe going on". Not meaning that they were impersonating him, but that they had that soul to their voice. Both of them said that was the biggest compliment they could get. Ya, it is. Thanks for another great video!!

I think Tommy Cash sounded just like his brother. Sadly, Tommy passed away September 13th this year. As far as these other imposters go, Joaquin done a great job in the movie and done a pretty good job singing, he just didn’t sound like Johnny. I would rank the others the Hispanic kid last, Jackson “Cash”, then Johnny knockoff or whatever he called himself runner up to Tommy Cash.

I've seen Jackson Cash on and off for years. He doesn't stay on key all the time, but IMO, he is a close second at least. The guy has had a rough life. Counterfeit takes first, but he wasn't perfect either.
