      1. Sholay was not the 1st, it was 'Around The World' (1967).
      2. Sholay wasn't shot in 70mm, it was shot in std. 35mm (4:3). It was converted to 70mm (Widescreen) for 'Cinemascope' projection.

    • @SouryaDP
      @SouryaDP 27 дней назад +10

      @@sachzmeister Exactly. Direct 70mm film cameras were not as widespread or affordable for film studios at the time, so the producers took the middle ground of “shoot in 35mm, convert to 70mm” for this movie…

    The epic lines are the reason I watch it every time and how impactful they seem.
    Jo dar gaya samjho marr gaya,
    Ab goli kha,
    Kitne aadmi the,
    James bond k pote hain ye...
    Tumhara naam kya hai basanati...

    An interesting trivia fact about Sholay:

    • @ashishkaushik8061
      @ashishkaushik8061 26 дней назад +1

      Wrong-
      Sholay earned 11.50+ lakhs in its first week,a record that was broken by Amitabh only in 1982 with Khuddar,the lukewarm response myth originates from the fact that Sholay couldn't manage to take 100% opening,remained 96-99% in all the territories as it was released on record number of prints,not getting 100% occupance was what created the myth.

    Fun fact: the character of the dacoit “Gabbar Singh” was apparently inspired by a real life dacoit, Gabbar Singh Gujjar, who terrorised the localities in Chambal Valley in the late 1950s. He was apparently so fierce that he would cut off the nose and ears of policemen that he captured and released them in this disfigured state as a gory warning.
    By 1959, he had become such a threat that the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh declared a joint reward of ₹50,000 for his capture. But his gang apparently commanded so much fear that no one dared to leak any information about him.
    Eventually, the governments could not take it anymore and mobilized a large scale police operation, following which, he was cornered in the Bhind district, and killed in a gun battle against the police there.
    Kind of fun to think that such dreaded dacoits were not purely fictional, but had basis in real-life events.

      @venkateshmadhekar359 It has a much longer runtime of 4 hours with all the scenes that were removed in the theatrical cut. It has a different color grading with a 4:3 aspect ratio and the original mono track, which is much better than the awful 5.1 remix. The two important scenes in the director's cut show how Gabbar proceeds to brutally kill Ahmed and the original ending where Thakur kills Gabbar instead of handing him over to the police. Then there's the emotional scene where Thakur breaks down in Veeru's arms. He finally lets out all his suppressed emotions as he has finally avenged his family by killing his enemy.

    This is one of a kind movie wherein the villain eclipsed two lead actors, Amitabh and Dharmendra, in his performance! Kurbani means Gabbar Singh. Gabbar Singh means Kurbani. The character set the benchmark for performance in those days. Every wannabe Hindi actor would have rehearsed Gabbar Singh in their early career.

    Dharmendra was a major star in Indian cinema, known for being one of the few actors unaffected by the rise of Amitabh Bachchan’s popularity. Remarkably, he holds the record for delivering seven consecutive hits in 1987-a milestone in Indian cinema that remains unmatched to this day.

    Ahh.. I so wish you understood hindi just to understand the epicness of this movie..
    This is the movie that we call classic.. Its the movie where every character no matter hoe minor is still so iconic and relevant in our references.. From the major one like gabbar to surma bhopali and even the horse dhanno, kalia, shambha woth just few minutes appearancr are still relevant..
    And almost every other dialogue has become so popular.. Honestly everything that gabbar says , from his entry with "kitned aadmi the " ti even simple sentence like "holi kab hai " Has beckme iconic..
    Sholay and andaj apna apna are two movies whose so many dialogues are so iconics and relevant in our daily lives..
    And kudos to amjad khan to play creepy and cruel gabbar so effortlessly, from what I know he wasnt the original choice for it but he lived the character..

    Dharmendra was the biggest star at the time and recommended Amjad Khan for GABBARs role, some say he recommended amitabh bachchan too.
