I don't like to prune mine I like the full look They seem to get rid of old leaves by themselves my friend says no one grows them like this but I really like them
Pruning sago palms should never be excessive. Only remove completely dead, badly damaged, or diseased foliage. If desired, the fruit and flower stalks can be pruned as well. In addition to decreasing growth, cutting the green fronds can weaken the plant, making it more susceptible to pests and diseases.
Thank you for all this information! I am from the North but I moved to Texas and I have a King Sago at my house. I am learning to take care of him. I'm going to be transplanting him because we are moving to a new home and I'd like to take him with me. But this new house has a small yard. I see how close this one is planted to this house. Can they be planted that close to a house? It seems like it doesn't have a problem.
From my own experience, I would suggest not only gloves and long sleeves, but also eye goggles because I had to rush to urgent care once after poking my eye with a palm leaf :) Thank you for very informative videos.
My palm tree froze this winter we had snow which is unsual for Louisiana. I am in the process of cutting all of the dead branches off do you think it will come back
Hola José Ávila, tengo una pregunta. es verdad que los hijuelos de la cyca revoluta hembra o macho siempre son hembras? Ojalá y me ayudes con esta duda gracias. ..
my neighbor has a large sago on his front walk. it has 4 "branches" of about 8 inches in diameter. Can I harvest these by using a pruning saw cutting close to the main plant? It also has smaller pups at the base which I intend harvesting as well. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for your video. Will pruning it like that make it grow upward faster? Also, we have a big problem with white scale on the top of the tree and the leaves , but don't want to use any toxic chemicals. I used castile soap and water on it which isn't sufficient. What do you recommend that won't hurt the lizards and frogs that live in it? Thank you =)
Would this be the same procedure for an indoor sago palm? I got one the other day on sale because it is unhealthy. The tips of the leaves are all brown and has 2 layers of leaves. Not very big maybe a ft1/2 tall. I feel bad for dying plants an want to see if I can save them. If there is any advise you can give would be appreciated. Oh it also came in a none drainage pot with rocks on top that appear to be glued in place.
el creé que cortandole las hojas asi va a crecer más rapido, todo lo contrario, lo que esta haciendo es quitandole a la planta los receptaculos para cojer el sol y la fuerza de la planta.
Wow, never new there was an association. Guess that's how you guys took the industry away from the Asians. Good going amigo. J/K. Good video. Thanks for posting. I have several of these in my back yard that got damaged by the uncommonly cold winter here in Houston. A bizarre follow-up to the Harvey impact. Anyway, lots of brown spots on the leaves and complete brown leaves on them that need to be removed. Now I've got to go look for one of those curved serrated knives. Never seen that one before. Appears to be a "Japanese Sickle", which is kind of ironic after my earlier statement. LOL. Thanks again. A good video with useful information is what RUclips is supposed to be used for. And I will continue to contribute to the association that I never even knew existed. :)
I live in the Florida panhandle and we see tons of these plants. They are an absolute nightmare and even worse, they don't look one bit attractive. Do yourself a favor and get rid of them if you have them and whatever you do, DON'T PLANT THEM!

What brand of clippers are you using? They seem to work better than my Fisker’s.
Excellent video. Beautiful. From India. New Delhi

I was wondering about that. I came to youtube to learn how to do this. Good advice. I know I am way late but hope you get this.
You do not need all that just a pair of gloves and watch what you're doing.

I want to get rid of the pups growing all around mine but I'm not sure how to dig them out? It's such a bitch to keep up with these things lol
Same here. Guess I'll search more videos until I find a solution.
Are these plants poisonous and dangerous if you touch them without gloves ?
Poisonous if ingested mainly, However animals and kids should not touch them or anything at all.

steph04769 It needs to be drained. This biggest killer is root rot. The discolored ones cut back to encourage new growth. The top needs air.
Excellent! Thanks!
We have 5 of these
that is Cycas taintungensis not revolute. The difference is hard to see, only for professionals.
Very good

No hay necesidad de podarla pero que hizo noooo
These plants are extremely poisonous! Im currently fighting a severe allergic reaction to it.
Thanks for the heads up - I will make sure my skin and eyes are protected.
Yes, they are a horror!
The poison has nothing to do with your infection, only your hygienic practices.
Did the leaf poke you? Which part?
@lovelyj2990 honestly it was soo many years ago. I think Dr said could sap. But I could be wrong
