"Map thing" exploit is ridiculous, but Rare is the one to point the blame at. They aren't going to go around and ban players just because they are too lazy to patch an exploit. Hopefully Season 12 brings many fixes.
As someone who has played the PS5 Beta (which was on the latest build of SoT) Yes. A lot of bugs/exploits got fixed. (But time will tell, maybe by the time S12 releases, 10 more exploits appeared 🙄.)

If you do it correctly your character can come up so far out of the water that you could get on a galleon’s deck.

It's a mistake on their end, just like quick-bucketing, silent board or glitching yourself into the stairs of your ship's stairs in order to quickly and silently traverse far distances on the oceans surface in a certain direction. The brig of Me, Orbponderer and Nyx sank map exploiters 3 times yesterday. Just kept coming back. And of course they were salty. The first two sinks they were funny but then turned a wee bit toxic. Then we dove out since we were logging off, we didn't want them to get all of the goody supps.

I can see where exploits can be considered cheating, but honestly, if we are going to slam on exploits and people that use them for advantage against other players… we should do ALL OR NOTHING. That means crazy boat launches to escape, the map thing, loot running… all of them. It’s only fair, if it’s a “proper SOT pirate” that you want to be.

Silent boarding..crud launch..funny launch..the harpoon rowboat to speed a ship super fast..grabbing a wheel or cannon to fix a failed lunge. All are unintended things by combining diff game mechanics in weird ways
i dont personally use the map exploit.. but i feel like putting 100% of the blame for this exploit on the player base is the WRONG way to go about this. its Rares game and they should fix these bugs instead of pinning it on their players. just a lousy lousy cop out imo. and i know they working on it n they probably got 100 other things on their priority list like hitreg but its still no excuse. they either live with the consequence of it having a negative effect on THEIR game or they prioritize and fix it. stop blaming players. cringe P.S. Why can't we blame both? I'm sure Hitbo is upset with Rare too. I think it's perfectly fair to blame the players cause they are choosing to run the exploit to negatively influence other players. Now, most of the blame falls on Rare for taking so long to fix these things, but I think both parties can be blamed. Just because an exploit is in the game doesn't mean you have to use it.
I believe the exploit needs to be fixed by rare and the fault should fall to them BUT any player who uses it to win a fight gets no respect from me because they needed to use it to win.
You cant really say that the map thing is exploiting or cheating. When you do things that gain an advantage like grabing a cannon or the helm after sword lunging. That also gains an advantage during combat. The devs also didnt intend on putting that in the game but here we are. Also when sword lunging while jumping into the water was also not intended at first but the ended up putting it in the game. At the end of the day it is a sandbox game. If youre saying that one thing is giving advantage and its cheating than that would apply to everything. Just my opinion
