Rich has a great attitude towards the hobby. Doesn’t get bogged down in details. If it works, he does it. Purist heads are exploding all over the globe....”Fronts & Angels together?!!!” Great video. Thanks for sharing. 😉👍
Holy smokes....I absolutely love this video. I love the setups, and as another old guy who has been in the hobby 20+ years, I have found that with the right foresight and understanding, a lot of fish-keeping rules can be broken. Rich has an awesome, infectious attitude toward the hobby. And I am exactly the same as you with water, what comes out of the tap is what they get, and they are all absolutely thriving. I have convicts in with a bunch of African Cichlids and have not had an issue. No torn fins, no disease. Most are rescue fish, it's amazing how many people buy cichlids expecting peaceful community fish.
For the record..i think that it is best for you to know..that i have to move or trade my african cichlids a lot...as we know..some times those fish grow up and are fighting for space..for breeding purposes..and so many times..they are fighting for space..for food...a lot of cover helps with both..if you really watch your cichlids..they will fight for hours ... over one cave..then get bored and move on...cichlids are cichlids.. Laughs find something...cover..decoration..feeding habits..filters..etc...that works for YOU and YOUR FISH..in a nice way..please dont think..that you can just take all of ..the fish i have and toss them together in one night...we learn by doing and if you dont overflow ur tank..or break a glass lid or spill your coffee in your tanks..just wait ...laughs...i suggest if your fish are growing..breeding..healthy..etc...stick with what your doing...a lot of misleading stuff on the internet..thanks guys for your comments...Jason it was fun..i have known Jason and his family for years..they go to so many events..swaps..meeting..auctions..etc..they are true hobbists...!
@@richchristensen4041 Couldn't agree more mate. Spent 15yrs of my 23 or so in the hobby following the rules with limited success. I've spent the last 8 experimenting a bit, learning from trial and error. I have a fair bit of experience with South American Cichlids, and a reasonable amount with Africans....and most importantly I keep a close eye on that tank (something all cichlid owners should do imo). Anyway, I did a video on my setup a while back, it'd be an absolute honor if you took some time to take a peek.
I just have 3 tanks now. Most of them are basic and I recently built a planted aquarium for a betta. If i am able to own my house someday I will have the biggest room turned into my own aquarium room which would look something like this video. Great tour.
Thanks Jason...its funny..our cichlid head friends..been calling me and asking me.."you dont know what a deep water hap is"? Yes I do..I was not referring to that particular fish...just some of the hybrids I come accross in general...
Omg I met a pair of twenty year old winemilleri today. They were wild caught by this dude by hand over twenty years ago and there were second generations too; he had to move and I believe he quit the hobby so these fish are just sitting in a store😥 I kid you not the original pair are well over a foot, EXTREMELY tall and the offspring have amaaaaazing trailers! For some reason they belong to a maintenance company inside the fish store which is weird to me but ig he must’ve specifically sold to those people and not the store so they’re not for sale and it’s driving me absolutely nuts cause I’m OBSESSED with geos lol🤣 I’m the first person they’ll call it they’re going to sell them and I’m prayyyying that I can get my hands on them and breed them for the hobby! I’m gonna start being active in the gcca so hopefully I can contribute in a positive way
I haven't used it in any of my tanks. I know it will increase general hardness, but I'd rather do that with crushed coral more slowly over time - might be easier to manage.
This is an amazing room and fish collection, however, I never understand how people can have 18-20 without knowing the exact amount? It's not that big of a number.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Yeah it's all about perspective I think, I'm sitting here looking at an empty tank waiting for my filter haha Thank you for your amazing content it has made the transition into the hobby less stressful and really enjoyable, and for introducing me to the Bolivian Ram, I fell in love! Also I'm my opinion you made the best video on the nitrogen cycle, keep it up!
I believe in cover..and in structure....In my experience..I think...the more decorations..more places to hide...if fish have a retreat or a safe zone..they are more likely to be out swimming around...just a opinion...when fish rest..i think they feel more comfy with any structure near them..this is why all my tanks have a lot of S*it in them...I really only know about cichlids...yes they fight for territory....yes they fight to eat first..yes for breeding grounds..yes they fight for space and on and on. But sometimes cichlids fight for 20 hours for a spot..and once they obtain a spot...they get bored and move on..i know..i know it's more complicated then that...but i have many hours and many decades..laughs not bragging..watching cichlids..sometimes the reason or reasons cichlid do what they do..IS BECAUSE THEY are cichlids..not yelling..lol...i have not figured them out yet..and that is okay..sometimes there is no right and wrong..just a method of doing things...if you have something that has and is working well..stick to it...i have been to hundreds of private breeders and we all do something different...good luck everyone and happy fish keeping...

He's been at it a long time and has learned what fish can go together. : -)
That was really cool seeing a severum chilling out with frontosas.
I have the same thing going on in my 150, but it's three severums and one front. : -)
Love Love this video and Rich , this is the first video I see where someone just enjoys the fish no matter what !
He's fun to hang out with. : -)

He sure is! : -)
I love his attitude
He's a funny guy :-)
I know this is an older video but I've just come across it now and Rich seems a really nice fella, enjoyed this one!
Yes he is 😀
I love Severum, these fishes are nice, they can do bond with keeper.
That guy is cool! I enjoy his demeaner. And knowledge.
Wow. U have grown on youtube alot. Almost 40k! Congrats Jason
Thank you! Appreciate you being here almost from the being!
Rich is a trip, for sure. Sold him a bunch of fry in the past. Nice tour.
This was a fun video. Never thought I’d see angels with frondosas.
I have one of each in my 150 gallon tank. They work surprisingly well sometimes. : -)
Loved the tanks and thank you for all the information it helps.
Thanks for watching!
Rescue goldfish yeah
Awwww dogs and cats. Great looking fish

Those are amazing fish! If you can get a group, and a large tank, they are well worth it!
Prime Time Aquatics I hopefully plan to do just that!
I love your vids. Just wish the camera quality was better.
👍👍👍
38 k not before time,100k next.👍
Thanks! : -)

please help, what do you think abaut adding epsom salt in the pond or aqarium?
I haven't used it in any of my tanks. I know it will increase general hardness, but I'd rather do that with crushed coral more slowly over time - might be easier to manage.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you... I will skip that experiment for now :)
I ned to buy some corals for now.
Can't we see this full video?
How young do Victorians breed?
It's not so much age as it is size. Mine have bred when they were just 3" or so.
This is an amazing room and fish collection, however, I never understand how people can have 18-20 without knowing the exact amount? It's not that big of a number.
Some people may not think about it that much. haha

@@PrimeTimeAquatics i have frogs and toads..so i dont count them as fish tanks..so 18 fish tanks and two for the frog and toad

Ya, he's a funny guy. : -)
Crabo...my gal pal ...her name is katie..so i said ..katieO as a joke..compared to CRAB o...laughs
Yeah working for now. Often doesn't last long term. A jack dempsey in a malawi tank is a bad idea
I had that combination a long time ago without any issues, but you are right - you never know.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Ive seen it not work hundreds of times. Ive seen people keep oscars with neon tetras, it doesnt meant others should try it
