Its easy to attack a person when their chips are down, I guess that is what sells these days. Karma is cold and the tables can turn against you in such a bad way that you wont ever recover. So be a bit humble man when judging this naive fellow who should have left earlier true but even many good quality people are facing this

That sucks. The limit should be at 70 years old. Especially in seniority positions. I’ve seen young people get laid off while people 70 year olds keep working because the position and the money is good. Some jobs lose good young people who want to work for that exact reason. Unstable income pushes people away.

@Dee-nice_4 Do you think Fading Man will get hired though?
I've been bald since I'm 30, about half my life ago. In my 50's I couldn't get hired
because of a bogus assault (misdemeanor) on my record, and after I left the Army after 12 years of active duty. So then I used the GI Bill that and went to college, I earned it from being in the Army. I did it to help us (family) live, it pays your rent or mortgage. WHo wants to go to college when you're 46, that's when I started going back.
And then I filed some injury claims with the Dept. of VA as well as working gig delivery jobs.
I finished 20 years in the army throught the Army Reserves by age 54. My VA claims were approved about the same time. So I really didn't have to work anymore anyhow. But this man I'm seeing in the video will not have what was
provided to me by the VA. But people really do, it's SSDI. Not everyone is going to get hired in a decent job, not everyone is like you!!
One stupid thing on your record like assault (misdemeanor) and being bald could monkey wrench it all. And people 25 years old interviewing you could care less about you. At least that's the way it felt 5 years ago.

Companies are more likely to hire someone who already has a job because you are already deemed valuable. The longer you are unemployed the more concerning to a potential employer. Sadly and similarly, some women would rather steal a high value man in a relationship than find a single man.

By 55 you need to have your life setup where you don't need income from company. We know people don't like to pay older workers. All income past 55 should be fun money and padding the investment accounts. It is too late.

A true fact. Businesses and corporations, for the most part, are not nonprofit organizations. Their employees are their backbone and must be kept strong. Restructuring of this backbone is necessary from time to time. If you are a potential liability or not fitting in with their business plan, your days are numbered. They will find a legal way to get rid of you. I was hired by a corporation when I was in my 40s and worked all the way till my retirement age of 65. The only reason this happened is because I was doing my job very well and not because they were being considerate or doing me a favor. They needed me as much as I needed them.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how well you prepare, there’s aspects that go into to like who they have already premeditated on hiring, funding getting pulled last minute (offer called back), or employers not taking you serious as a candidate. That’s why it’s important to do business with people who want to do business with you. That’s why it’s vital to give your time to people who appreciate it.

I pulled the plug at 53 but it was planned since my 20's. I never liked work and knew I had to think and act differently from others to be able to leave the work fource earlier. I started listening to a show called Money Talk hosted by Bob Brinker in 1989. Started vering all money to the Total Stock Market index. I had planned to retire at 55 but my hospital where I worked IT for 20 year was aquired by another who's model was to contract IT service out which ment a 30% cut in pay and odd hours if you were picked up so I went at 53 in 2019. I hope this man had a decent saving but I will say to be able to pull the plug in your mid 50's in these super inflated times you have to max out your companies 401k in my case 403b, IRA and then creat taxable accounts to get you to fifty nine and a half to be able to touch your IRA. I've not had a car payment since 1990 and a smalle mortgage so this, and rental property income helped me save.

I've been watching this guy's videos for a week or so now. I just came upon him one day and have occasionally watched his "journey" to find a job. He seems genuine and I do feel for the guy, but the more I watch his (many) videos the more I question his motive as to why he's putting this out for the world to see. I don't know why he's doing so, and it's perplexing to me because I feel there is a hidden reason as to why he's doing this. Conventional wisdom would be to NOT say a lot of the things he's saying about job interviews he's gone on and giving his reasons as to why he's not getting hired. Personally, if I were him I wouldn't be putting myself out there - other than maybe to market myself, and I sure as HELL wouldn't be saying things like "I got mad" or "I am angry" or "They pissed me off" when NOT getting the job after having two or three interviews with a company. For OBVIOUS reasons, you might want to keep that stuff to yourself.

Even if someone stayed at a bad employer for years, one could still do well just by consistently contributing to pre and post retirement accounts. There is never an excuse to blame a job; not even a side-hustle job. I work a second contracting job and they offer a 401K. Even though that job gives me minimal hours, I STILL opened my 401K (with them) and contribute. My REAL job, I will be getting a pension etc as it is a local-government job. Start saving for your retirement, regardless of your employer or a crappy retirement plan.

Layoff's happen. This goes to the concept of "Average" which has a huge effect where everyone at work is your competition. "Average" is a mathematical point in the middle where half the people are "Above Average" and the other half are "Below Average", no one is "Average". I found this concept true when I worked, the Above Average half did well, developed more skills, gained higher salaries and the Below Average half fell behind, subject to layoffs, missed promotions and lower salaries. I was never the best but always strived to be in the Above Average half and did OK. If you are a Boomer in the Below average half, bad news, It's Too Late.

If you are laid off in the year you turn 55, you can take money out of 401K without paying the penalty. You will still have to pay taxes on it but no penalty. So if you have very low expenses and enough set aside you can semi-retire and work part time, this may get you to the maximum of social security to wait until maximum age.
