I have a right handed Manchester in Black. I love it. It was the superstar during the cold outbreak/power outage, everyone came to my house because I was the only one with heat. Also, I cooked breakfast and lunch on this stove. I'm so glad I installed this 2 years ago. I use this as my primary heat.
We love our soapstone stove... it’s a 1985 Woodstock soapstone... you don’t so much lose heat up the chimney more than any other stove... what it does is soak up all the heat of the first kindling fire and then starts putting out a steady consistent heat over a nice long time.... I wouldn’t trade our soapstone stove for anything else. We heat an entire 2200sq foot house in northern minnesota with the single stove... average temp in winter is about 80 degrees in our house
I have been using my Hearthstone soapstone (Mansfield model) for 4 years now. I love this wood stove... no complaints at all. My previous wood stove was a (cast iron) Vermont Castings (Vigilant model). The Vigilant was good but it was definitely a great improvement going with the Mansfield soapstone. My house was built in 2004. It’s a 2-story (2100 square feet ) and is well insulated. I use on average 11 face cord of fire wood to heat all season. I live in northern New York (1 hr. south of the Canadian border) Like anything- when you lean how to use it efficiently the reward is nice.
That is the reason why I think Hearthstone makes the Best Wood Burning Stove on the market. Thank you for the Real Life comparison to one of our competitors, and thanks for the Great comment.
@@mariaaldred3058 Thanks for the information I’m sure it will help someone understand the difference between the two units of measurement for fire wood. Myself, I’ve been familiar with firewood for 34 yrs.

11-22-2021. We sell Hearthstone stoves at our store. As of last week every stove that I brought in for the season has been sold! I agree totally. If you are using a wood stove as a main source of heat , then you cannot beat a soapstone stove,,,,, unless you like getting up in the middle of the night to re feed it. And let’s face it, they are gorgeous stoves!
Great video, thanks!! I am going to get a Castleton. Our woodstove is going to be close to us physically in the house, so I wanted something that wont roast us too much in the living room lol!
I am looking at the Castleton model soapstone. I live in the Catskills in NY and am concerned if it will heat my ranch home. The winters are cold here. Do you think the Castleton model will put out enough heat??
@mrEnergy511 That's 👍 thank you. I just went with the heritage and absolutely love it. The misses came into extra money and got the blower also. It was 12 below zero here without the winds, and it got the job done.
33 years selling wood stoves. I’m not bashing... but, I also sold Hearthstone. They are decent heaters. But there’s no free heat here. The “slow release” of heat is because they’re massive ‘heat sinks’ and capture much of the heat at startup. It’s a trade off. The reason why you can get some heat off the stove hours after the fire is out is because you didn’t get it at startup.
I agree with you. No such thing as FREE! You will however get some heat on start up if you sit right in front of the Glass Door. The ceramic glass will start to radiate Heat in a matter of minutes. Just a thought 💭 thanks for the comment
If you keep it going all winter then there is only one start up in all those days. The stone keeps it warm until you get around to putting more wood in. Not free heat, but less lost heat.
Thanks for this video. Very informative! I've been looking into the soapstone stoves but I'm glad that I decided not to get one. I actually love that peak heat on cold days!!! What should I move to eight more temperate climate I'll definitely consider the soapstone!

I purchased a home that has a Vermont casting defiant it says 1975 on the inside but it looks less than 5 yrs old. If u or someone can help me in need some info on changing out the stove to put a soap stone stove in its place. Do u have a email. I can send you photos so u can see the piping inner help understanding what I have thanks
What city are you located? I'm part of a nation wide network of Fireplace retailers. I could connect you with a member in your area who sells Hearthstone Wood Stoves.
The reason you want soap stone is to buy our product lol. I miss the old cast iron from the one place we lived. I like wearing shorts inside. Sure it takes wood.....but it's not like I'm a bagel getting cooked at dunkin(they just breath on em real quick/joke). I don't care how it looks either. Function > looks.
If I have an iron stove, or even stainless steel one, can I put some soapstone inside it to get some of the benefits of the longer heat time? And is it dengerous to do so ?
Ordered a baffle from hearth stone stove in October 2020, did not receive it until February 2021. The company would not answer my emails, calls during the whole 4 months. Would not compensate anything for extremely long delay. No free shipping, no discounted price, not even added minor accessories. I could not use my stove the whole four months because the without that piece I would damage my stove without it. If I could give this company negative 5 stars I would.
How old is the Wood Stove? October is the WORST time to order parts from a Fireplace manufacturer! Fall is the busiest time of year and October is the busiest month. Also you should have ordered parts through a Dealer. Hearthstone is a dealer direct company and they don’t sell to the public. You got your parts... when most stove manufacturers are out of business, discontinued, or sold out to a larger company. Hearthstone is a smaller company with a large demand on their product! Made in America Quality is VERY hard to find these days. They get 5 Stars! Your dealer should get the blame for not communicating these facts to you. Thanks for sharing
The Best for what? I have made a lot of DEALS on Wood Stoves. If you listen to my explanation is for this stove or that stove I will give some reasons why this Wood Burning Stove is the Best. What are you looking for in a Wood Stove? For example the lowest price made in China is NOT going to be the Best Quality... Also the Most Expensive over engineered European made will probably be too small for a Large American home... I love the Soapstone Stoves by Hearthstone because they will give you long hours of nice even heat with only ONE Fire. 🔥 If you want to Cook on your Wood Burning Stove you may want to look at something else. What is most important to YOU in a Wood Stove? At the end of the day it’s just my opinion and I’m a salesman so take it with a grain of salt. Thanks for the comment.
All of your pipe is up side down. Hope you only sell the stoves and do not install them because they will all ooze creosote tar down the pipe. Male down , female up.
Hi Bren! Thanks for pointing this out because in the fireplace industry this is a common mistake. You are correct, all stove pipe is installed male down, female up. Double wall stove pipe gives the illusion that it is opposite because of the appearance on the outside. The inside section of the double wall stove pipe is not seen. The outer telescopic piece slides down over the top section giving the illusion that the female side is down. The nice thing about all the chimney pipe sold by Amerivent is that the label will have arrows to direct which way to install the pipe.

So does a lined soapstone cast or steel hold the long lasting heat like a full soapstone does?
NO. Cast Iron with a soapstone liner comes close to the full Soapstone Stove by about 75%

There are complaints on soapstone cracking, can anyone comment? I am about to purchase and now unsure between cast iron and soapstone.
We have never had any complaint of the soapstone cracking on the woodstoves unless dropped.
Any option for cold air intake?
Can't speak for the other two but the green mountain does have an outside air intake adapter. I think it's $85-100 for the kit .
I’ve had both Hearthstone and Woodstock and prefer the latter
where in Washington, OR or MT states are these available? TIA
